Good to see Damien Martyn getting his worth. Really underrated bat.

Clarke (World Cup winning captain)
Waugh (brilliant in both formats and the greatest slips fielder, a handy bowler)

Surprised to see people putting Mark Waugh at the bottom. He was probably the best timer of the ball out of all of them and was the first few to average over 40 consistently for a few years.

Aesthetics isn't what makes a player great. Junior Waugh avgd 41 in tests and wasnt tough/gritty like his elder brother.

Timing is not aesthetics but Mark had both...though I agree he wasn't as gritty but he was far more gifted. He was easily the better batsman just not the better player/cricketer.

IMO, timing is basically a subset of aesthetics. I don't recall anyone who is aesthetically regarded as great to watch but isn't a great timer of the ball.

Better batsmen to whom ? Steve Waugh? Not even close.

Right, but you can be an ugly player like Fawad or Dhoni and still time the ball crisply..timing and aesthetics are not mutually exclusive.

Mark was the better batsman....better player of the short ball, better timer, shots all around the ground, could hit big sixes, and so much better to look at...He just didn't have the same temperament as Steve who was one of the greatest cricketers of his generation.

On batting alone I would pick Mark 10/10 times...who would I rather have in my team of 11..Steve, hands down.
