ISLAMABAD, Nov 23 (APP): Former Test cricketer Shoaib Akhtar on Monday said he had always refused to use drugs to enhance performance in the game of cricket.

“When I started playing cricket I was told you can’t bowl fast and to achieve good speed of 100 km/h I will have to use drugs. But I have always refused to do so,” he said while addressing the Anti Narcotics Forces’ (ANF) annual drug burning ceremony.

The Rawalpindi Express revealed without naming that a world class Pakistani cricketer’s career was destroyed just because of drugs. “Similarly Pakistani pacer Muhammad Amir was also cautioned before the tour of England but he was taken away by bad company,” he said.

Speaking about indulging in healthy activities, he said the youth should take example from the Prime Minister Imran Khan who regularly does morning walk.

Interesting bit on Amir there - wonder if this will open some old wounds?

Shoaib was found guilty of having nandrolone in his system before the 2006 Champions Trophy so not sure how he can promote an anti-drugs message, especially since he's still denying it.

There were always whispers around Akhtar throughout his career.

Drugs and an illegal action accusations never really went away.

Sit down Shabby we all remember the Champions Trophy where Pakistan was going in as one of the favs and at the eve of the tournament you and Asif tested positive for drugs.

I wouldn't believe a word this guy says. Such an ill disciplined *****, that went nowhere with his talent. He would turn up at the start of each series looking like a palwan and then try to lose all the weight too quickly to get fit. What an idiot, what a waste.

All this does is remind everyone that Akther was himself a drugs cheat. Akther is the last person in Pakistani cricket who should be claiming to be a saint. His antics were there for the World to see, from drugs to total lack of professionalism and discipline.

You sure did. Both performance-enhancing and recreational.

Who is the biggest liar in Pakistan cricket history - Afridi or Akhtar? It is a tough call for me.

:)) That's like Mohammad Azharuddin or Salim Malik speaking about the menace of match fixing.

😂 Who would have thought from 2006 - 2009 from doping, bat gate, genital viral warts that the guy would be invited as a guest speaker to promote and spread anti drugs message.

I was once a big fan of him. But, i can't tolerate listening to him anymore. He is all the time ME ME ME ME....
Its get tiring after a time. He never has anything constructive to say about anyone. Its always, hum FAITA lagate the blah blah

He was found guilty of having drugs in his system as mentioned above. How the heck can you lie like this ?

Which legend invited him to speak at such an event in the first place?

:murali

Even if he doesn't do drugs which is not the case lol

Akhtar does look like he is always high on something lmao
