Asad Shafiq speaking today:

"The Irish team have struggled hard to gain Test status so this is a historic Test match and its also a great feeling for us to be part of this occasion and it was a good feeling"

"Most of their players play county cricket so they have a fair idea of how to bowl in 4-Day or Test matches"

"So we knew that this is not a new side as they do have experienced players"

"We knew that this would not be an easy match especially in these conditions"

"I believe we batted well [under the circumstances] and the way Shadab and Faheem batted was really good"

"There was sunshine today but the pitch wasn't as hard as we normally get in the UK"

"The wicket was a little soft in the beginning and it helped the bowlers, and they have a good idea of how to bowl on such pitches"

"It's quite cold here and we are lucky that we got to UK 2 weeks ago and everybody got practice"

"Yes [the ball was moving off the pitch], and we must give credit to the Irish bowlers for bowling in the right areas"

"We had lost early wickets and that's why my innings today was an important one for the team"

"Both Shadab and Faheem played outstanding innings"

"When they went in we were not in a good position but the way they batted, they have really put us in the driving seat in this match"

"I always wanted to play up the order at 4 or 5 position"

"The reason I enjoy batting at 4 or 5 is that when batting at 6, you only have one recognized batsman with you"

"Sometimes it's difficult as the new ball is about to be taken [at #6]"

"Am a bit disappointed [at my dismissal] as the ball wasn't coming off the pitch that quickly but I executed the shot badly"

"Ireland bowled well as these are conditions that they know well and they are used to bowling in such conditions"

"The responsibility is on Azhar Ali, Sarfaraz and I as we have played a good number of Tests"

What did Babar and Haris do? Both of them are loved by everyone on here and overrated to the moon.

Good knock today in a tough position but he needs to ditch the pull shot.

Not a good knock at all. Left the team high and dry after getting in. Mentally weak, but the second best Test bat in Pakistan right now.

he has slightly changed his technique. Has a slight back lift now which is required against a new ball.

looked solid today.

Well said - couldn't have said it better and it's not true that he wanted to bat at 4 or 5 otherwise he would have batted there during the SL series.

Shafiq speaking regarding Lords ahead of the Test match:

"It feels great to play at Lords because it's the home of cricket and it's a very traditional ground and the crowd come to watch the game and they support both teams"

"There are a lot of Pakistani crowd who came to watch which feels really good"

"My favourite memory is the last time we played here we won the Test match, it's a great feeling"
