Kohli would agree..

Coaches are the ones who handle the off the field business.

A Cricketer like Faheem Ashraf would had never played Pakistan if he wasn't coach by Mickey Arthur. Cricketers fitness was always a non issue in Pakistan. No one cared about it, and only performance mattered.

Arthur changed that, under his watch, no matter how good you are, but if you arnt fit to bowl 10 overs, then good bye.
Look at Sohail Khan.

Coaching isn't only about adjusting the players technique, its about being there and overseeing things. Making sure that players are doing what they are suppose to do when not in the field.

Coaches can not install ability into a player once they have made their international debut.

They can only guide their ego, mindset, and fitness which in return, can either hinder or improve their ability.

No wonder he didnt get anywhere with his batting

At the Lord’s Bicentenary Celebration Match (2014), upon being questioned about his batting style, he admitted that coaches instructed him to change his reckless style but he refused.

I am guessing he means there shouldn't be people coaching technique and ability like batting and bowling coaches but just a person in a manager-type of role so Mickey wouldn't be a head coach but a manager similar to football so you do have someone overseeing everything because letting players run wild with motivators in training would be a crazy idea. I think it is more important to have coaches at that level simply because of a key phrase in sport. Marginal Gains.

There is always room to improve for every player and having specialised coaches means that it gives a player support to find these small flaws in their game because it gets harder to correct flaws at this level and identify them.

Woolmer transformed Yousuf's game in 2005, which led to his 1788 run season in the following year.

Not through motivation but a proper adjustment to his technique.

He’s quite wrong there.Coaches have changed players’ technique and career for the hetter.

Especially in a system like Pakistan’s,coaching at the top level is very important.

Obviously coaches never made an effect on Afridi as shown by his mediocre career.

Coaches cannot make major technical changes at international level - those are best made at a young age. However they're necessary for tactical preparation, ensuring fitness standards and identifying young talent to work with.

Shane Warne often looked to his coach Terry ’Spin Doctor’ Jenner. The latter was very good at spotting small improvements for Warne to make.

What happened to you can always get better concept?

So many great players of the game have needed to fall back on their coaches from time to time.. remember Gilchrist before the 2007 World Cup final?

You can't improve on perfection :sendoff

What an idiot, contradicting himself; Coaches also are required for motivating players

Even greatest of players have doubts creeping in especially when they are out of form. At that time, coaches can be helpful in pointing out mistakes and correcting it.
Afridi's statement is flawed.

Afridi never has doubts :sa

If you had asked me to explain Afridi's career in one sentence, I would have struggled to describe it. He himself has given the best explanation for that.

Coaches have different role with the international team. I agree in a way that you should not be coaching players at this level but coach do lot more than just coaching at this level. They manage the team, make sure they are in proper space and help them to iron out any flaws which may creep in for even the best of players.

Lala was talking only from his perspective. It came naturally to him since he was blessed with loads of natural ability. Coaching is for less gifted players who have to work hard to get runs and wickets.
