"I don't think we should go gaga about him (Mohammad Amir)" : Rohit Sharma

Amir should be at his best against India if we want to win the match.

Early days in the tournament but he has shown he is slowly getting back to form...

Amir can still have his number. But if the Rohit sees off the first 10 overs he can milk them. Now he has extra responsibility in the absence of Dhawan. He can be lazy at the start. That is the only complaint i have. He just doesn't go fully forward or fully backward. He gets stuck ont the crease

I wouldn't disagree with what Rohit has to say but it seems a bit rich coming from him.
He's gotten out cheaply by Amir twice or something. He's generally struggled against him.

He struggles against any left handers that can bring the ball back in. He is not a natural opener. We have to remember. He is a makeshift opener. There is a reason why inspite of gorgeous shots he never succeeded in Tests like it was expected. He doesn't have the right technique against swinging ball. He didn't make an attempt to fix like Kohli did. But in one dayers ball doesn't swing in 90% of the matches.

What nonsense!

A better stat would be Sharma against Amir

Pakistan should bat first and put up 300+ like CT. That is the only way they can look to beat India...

The pacer, 23, is being compared with Pakistani legend Wasim Akram and Sharma said this was a bit too much. "People are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. It's wrong. Let him achieve some bit. Definitely he is got talent but aisa kuch nahin ki aake woh sabko uda hi deta hai (it's not that he rips apart all line-ups). He's just a normal bowler who was good on that day." Asked whether he had reservation against the return from ban of Amir, he said: "It's none of my concern their politics their issues.

Not much wrong here, Amir is a lovely bowler who always raises his game in big matches. But Wasim Akram was something else, probably the greatest Pakistani cricketer of all time !!!! Besides Amir has to shine in test cricket before being rated highly.

After today's Pak-Aus match, I wont to quick to write off Pakistan. They know to fight till the very end and make a match of it.

Amir owned him in 2 matches.

Sharma came back with big knocks in last 2 games.

I think Sharma's managed to balance out this rivalry.

Overall of course he's a much bigger player than Amir.

He can say what he wants. 100x the cricketer Amir will ever be.

Amir was excellent in Asia Cup 2016 in Bangladesh. He was getting swings, pace and everything on good bowling wickets. But he looks a different bowler now. There’s not much 145kph stuffs, not as potent as 2016. Amazingly the wickets in Bangladesh were so good for bowling most part of 2016 Asia cup T20. It’s much better than the flat wickets here in the WC. It had something for both batsmen and bowlers.

Bowler really has to be at his absolute best.

At the same time its kind of unfair too on openers for falling victim to quality swing bowling in bowler friendly conditions.

Even though amir wasnt getting the swing as he did in the past sharma looked clueless against him Just content to see him off

Heck he didnt even take first strike like he used to Tells u everthing about whos the boss in that contest

Lol that’s why you were so scared to face the first over from that you gave kl Rahul the strike even sachin and sehwag were just talking about it how they would do that if they feared a certain bowler

KL Rahul tak3s the strike when he opens the batting for India in any format

As the senior pro and someone who usually faces up first ud have expected him to if he was as confident as he says he is of facing amir

Lol, a guy just got a huge hundred and some Pak fans still falling back to their favorite 'darr gaya' crutch.

Amir was fantastic today and Indians played him carefully and with respect. That's what teams who win consistently do. This isn't a boxing match between two individuals.

He did take strike against Amir in Asia cup and scored 52 and 111* while Amir went wicketless. :hasan

Amir bowled alright today. He’s truly the leader of the Pakistani bowling attack and got the most respect from Indian batters.

Sharma has a great game.

In the end these are two champion cricketers who deserve respect.

Don’t think Sharma’s initial statement was meant to be disrespectful.

Good to see Sharma making a come back in this rivalry.

Honestly Amir owner him in Bangladesh T20 Asia cup and in England during CT-2017. It was sad to see him struggle against swinging and pacy Amir.

Rather than focusing on what Rohit actually said, this thread turned into a Rohit vs Amir bumpable thread over the last 5 years, though the bumps reduced as Rohit redeemed himself through the years :yk

So let's bring back the original discussion. This is what Rohit said about Amir and Bumrah:

Just leave him... He's just come (after the ban) and I don't think we should go gaga about him. Let him perform for one more year and we will see whether he deserves so much. Woh koi... (I don't want to use those words). He's good but he needs to prove again and again. It's not right to hype him so much after just one match. Not just for him or who are watching it, let him do it over and over again.

People are comparing him to Wasim Akram and all that. It's wrong. Let him achieve some bit. Definitely he is got talent but aisa kuch nahin ki aake woh sabko uda hi deta hai (it's not that he rips apart all line-ups). He's just a normal bowler who was good on that day.

Instead of talking about Amir you should talk about Bumrah. He's our Indian bowler and doing well. He's a rare talent. He's young. He's got a long way ahead. The way he has started he will do something special. He's an exception. He comes with a surprise, even the captain does not know. He's got everything in his bank. What we saw in Asia Cup and in Australia he did pretty well. He's got a good yorker, bouncer all what a modern day bowler needs. Only time will tell us where he will go.

What exactly wrong did Rohit say. He didn't really disrespect Amir. Just said he needs time to judge the guy rather than jumping on the bandwagon :virat1

And his thoughts on Bumrah have turned out prophetic :afridi even though he was fair there too by applying the same yardstick as Amir when he ended it with "Only time will tell us where he will go."
