Honestly the title says it all.
I was at a local cricket academy that my son attends. And he was asked who he supported. Naturally he said Pakistan and waqar younis was his favourite player. In response a bigger child, probably aged around 14 said and I quote " Pakistan are rubbish. they never win and always lose to india". This kid was a pakistani. My son wasn't distraught but simply ignored the comment and carried on.
I feel sorry for this new generation who are growing up when cricket in Pakistan has almost been destroyed by a combination of nepotism, corruption and foreign boycott. I mean we've always had corruption but after 2009 you may as well have just banned Pakistan forever. To put fans through this slow decline and (if not stopped) death is heartbreaking and cruel.
Now Many of you know how I feel about what happened in 2009 and subsequently so I wont go over that again.
But how do you revive cricket in the country when you cant play international cricket at home?
we have a economy that is doing ok now, a young population, reduced levels of terrorism, a team that is full of young players who clearly are finding it difficult to play abroad. I mean who wouldnt? but its relentless. No wonder we are getting performances like todays.
Something must be done or this generation will never no how my generation felt. Youll enver know the felling of watching miandads chaka, the 92 triumph, the constant beatings given to our neighbours, the sight of wasim and waqar wiping out the white nations batting lineups and then watching them sulk and show us their true selves...
yes you can watch it all on youtube but I truly feel sorry for you, that you have to endure Umar akmal, and Malik and wahab riaz..heart breaking stuff..
what do you young chaps think? and this is for TalentSpotterPk too. Who do we have left in the shanbles that is domestic cricket??
