What's new

"I feel that I am back to my best" : Junaid Khan

How few matches can change fortunes.

Amir and Usman were new ball bowlers and Faheem 5th option.

4 matches, now Junaid and Shaheen are new ball bowlers, with Nawaz 5th.

They dont need to play 3 fast bowlers, play faheem ashraf instead and he actually has a decent record of taking wickets.

Absolutely brilliant from Junaid. Great for Pakistan and a well-deserved return to the fold.

Can't believe i'm saying this. He is looking more threatening with the ball than Amir and Hassan.

Bet Amir is crying in the dressing room right now - amazing stuff from Junaid.

Mamoon will be crying more. Junaid has been very ordinary for a long time though, good to see him showing some signs of life in the past year.

Good for Pakistan in the short-term (i.e. today's match) but bad in the long-term. Only a matter of time before he loses Pakistan a match by getting smashed to all corners. There is always a reality check round the corner whenever Junaid appears to be 'bowling' well.

Just to refresh all of your memory in champions trophy junaid replaced wahab riaz and team bowling looked threatening. Not to forget the final where he kept one end tight that allowed amir to take wickets. No idea why was he dropped later

I think he was injured (a niggle) that keep him out of the matches that followed.

I don't know what kind of injury does he have that he is unable to be a part of our team at the start but does get injected later on

Stress fracture just before New Zealand in late 2017. Read something before you post.

Under rated Junaid Khan

I have always been a big fan of this man. He has performed really well throughout his career. Obviously every player is bound to have few off games but overall I think he is our best bowler specially on subcontinental tracks. Most experts on this forum who are also the fans of the so called super stars of the side have always under rated him but whenever he has been given the chance he has done well. People have called him chucker , trundler etc etc but he has always replied with his performance.
He should be the first name on the sheet if we are playing in subcontinent and perhaps on more greener wickets as well.

Yes, he was integral to the transformation, was superb in the CT, better than Bumrah across the tournament. And has some notable ODI performances against India, one may note. Should be a
shoe in for the final now.

Just try to put yourself in his shoes. All your career, you see Amir being given superstar treatment, praised to skies, compared to legends. While you silently do your job without making a fuss and seeking attention. Your management puts you in packing order behind Shinwari and debutant Afridi based on liking and disliking, different stokes for different folks. First time you get to play is in a do or die match, all or nothing. THIS is what he had to offer. THIS is passion. THIS is commitment and mental toughness. Amazing bowling today Junaid. His delivery to Liton Das was the "Ball of the Tournament" for me. Congratulations Pakistan !!
Final is gonna be a nail-biter.

Beautifully put. The guy not only had to fight the "man" but he also had to fight serious career ending injuries and the loss of a child. True warrior. Experts on the forums can only run mouth, they didn't even get picked for their gully mohallah sides.

Well put up. The best thing in Junaid is his patience. He doesn't go out in media crying out loud. Just quitely waits for his turn and let his game do the talk. His accuracy today was immaculate.

He is the UAE specialist.

Always should have been in the tests at the least. It's not wise to select Hasan, Amir on these dust bowls while they keep bowling short or the wrong line.

Also never understood why he was dropped after the CT final. Heard Mickey does not like him because he is a trundler.

Would prefer him in the UAE Tests.

Although he’s atleast 5-10mph slower than Wahab on average, he’s also more consistent and gets seam movement as well.

Happy for junaid. Passionate bowler.
Pakistan should utilize him in test cricket as well.

He is brilliant and a workhorse for Pakistan. Does the hard yards without getting noticed and is certainly not a favourite of our management who are more into aesthetics than performance.

But we are behaving a lot A LOT like some immature fans of Bangladesh. Need to chase 240 first up before making conclusions for the final

Junaid Khan for me has been the model professional. He silently led the Pakistan pace attack from 2011 to 2014 and toiled away in Misbah's captaincy playing on the dead UAE wickets and offered perfect support to Ajmal. He suffered injuries, he was accussed by Waqar Younis and Moin Khan of being unprofessional where they blamed him for not following their instructions for aggravating his knee injury while he in a media interview clarified that Waqar did not pay heed to his knee problem and aggravated his injury with his over training regime.

He was axed by the PCB and never got a proper look in again but he did not moan, whine in the media, he kept on playing domestic cricket, kept on working on his knee to get back to full fitness and he bowls on these flat lifeless wickets and does the job without complaining.

This is the guy the rest of the bowling attack needs to look up to as their spearhead, not that over rated Drama Queen Amir who complains about playing too much cricket.

I never care about experts and management have to say about a player especially from a subcontinent because i know backdoor politics and linking/disliking comes in between. Personally, I became a big fan of Junaid when he humbled us in "Aane do series". He ran through our batting order and ended careers of Sehwag and Gambhir. Only time Amir has delivered vs India was in CT final that too when 340 runs on the board to defend. Even Srinath and Prasad would deliver 8/10 times in such situation. I guess in Pakistan media has a lot of influence in making a player's career. Afridi managed to play for so long bcz of media. Amir was hyped and still is being talked about as best since Wasim while nobody mentions his bowling average of 31 that is Zaheer Khan's level. These stats are not for someone who wears crown of one of world's best bowler for me.

Also never understood why he was dropped after the CT final. Heard Mickey does not like him because he is a trundler.

Micky Arthur also discarded Imran Khan Jr who had impressive stats, picked up crucial wickets against Australia and NZ in the UAE in 2014, was responsible for our victory against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in 2015 and did decently on the tour to NZ in 2016 and this guy gets dropped single handedly by the coach because he is a trundler and isn't seen again.

Who makes these decisions to play with the cricketing careers of the players? Who is going to be held accountable for these decisions?

No place for him in the Test squad.

Has he been bowling in 4 day matches back home? The only possible excuse could be they feel he doesn't have the fitness for test cricket yet

If Inzamam had to announce test squad before completion of 1st two Pakistan A four day games than Junaid Khan deserved selection over Hasan, Mir etc because his record on SAsian conditions is the best amongst current lot of pak pacers barring Abass and he is also in good form atm.

Damn all caught behind... Loved when he got oldie uncle Misbah out

No man don't play him in Tests he'll get injured. Need him for ODIs and maybe T20s.

Some of this management decisions make me go bonkers!

How do you leave out a guy who...
1) has taken two 5-fer’s in the UAE in 2 years time.

2)Just proved that making him sit on the bench was a mistake by taking 4 for 19 in his first and only match of the Asia Cup.

3) Has now taken 7-17 in FC Cricket.

For a guy who...

1) Has not been in the Test squad for a year.

2) Has done nothing of note in ODI, T20, FC, List A Cricket for a year.

3) Has picked up ONE five-fer’ after playing in the UAE for 8 years.

Bring him back for the second test and let him play instead of Wahab. It's our 'home' series so we can add to the squad any time. Play the people in form. It worked for Hafeez and now let Junaid get on board. He should be on the next flight to the UAE but he wont knowing our selectors.

Wow. Are these bowling friendly wickets?

The other question I want to know is that who the heck is fielding at slips. All catches taken!!

Scores at Faisalabad have been fairly low this season. In the last round, SNGPL bowled out NBP for 44.

If Junaid is consistently playing 4 day games in domestic cricket then why have the selectors and team management not considered him for test matches since 2015?

Why did Waqar and Moin completely discard Junaid Khan after 2014 and 2015?

He hasn't really been playing a whole lot of four-day cricket.

Played 3 FC matches in 2016.

3 FC matches in 2017.

Played his first FC match of 2018 10 days ago, ongoing one is his second.

Of course, he has been hampered by injuries quite a lot in the past couple of years.

And left out of the T20I squad.

I'm convinced someone in the PCB hierarchy doesn't like him.

He has never been a T20 bowler. However, he needs to be brought back into the test team for the tour to South Africa. He'll be the only one who has actually bowler there before and the team could use the experience.

Disagree. Hasn't done much to be in the T20I squad. Hasn't played a T20 game since PSL, where he was nothing special. His T20I record isn't great also. If he has a good PSL then he can be considered.

Need to look at his current form in the UAE.

Need to look at his current form in the UAE.

Yes he had a good Asia Cup and is also doing well in domestic but he had an average PSL and has an average T20I record. No one could say him not being picked is a huge travesty, and claiming that he wasn't selected just because he isn't liked is a huge over reaction.

Junaid Khan not selected for the ODI series against South Africa

Inzamam:

"Junaid Khan had some good performances in the Asia Cup but unfortunately during the series against New Zealand he got a very serious toe injury"

"Even the doctor's report indicated that his injury was serious"

"After that he worked on his fitness and also played in the National T20 Cup but we the selectors felt that as he is a fast-bowler we need to give him some time to recover"

"So Junaid Khan will get time now [to recover]"

"He is a good bowler and the pool of bowlers that we have and we will consider him when he is fit"

During the Asia Cup, Simon Doull mentioned that batsmen( didn't specify who) found Junaid tricky to face since he hit the bat harder than expected. Also bowled the perfect channel for UAE wickets in that match against AFG

Some facts:

His recent ODI record speaks for itself
He is fully fit
He declined offers from the BPL to instead concentrate on playing for Pakistan.

Very surprised that he has been dropped. Hopefully he'll be back soon

This is what he posted on Insta after squad was named. I'm sure that caption was written through gritted teeth!

Some facts:

His recent ODI record speaks for itself
He is fully fit
He declined offers from the BPL to instead concentrate on playing for Pakistan.
Sad isnt it. Junaid has lost his zip a bit. May be he has fitness issues...

Bring back Junaid Khan

This guy needs to be in our team, he has showed with his performances over the years but has been let down by the selectors and management, in the champions trophy he contolled one end and took wickets

Asia cup again shinwari and co got hammered and junaid was brought in for the last odi performed again taking 4 wickets

Dropped again for what, our current bowling lineup is lacking control, no wonder we can't take wickets as there is no pressure on the batsman, not sure what azhar Mahmood is teaching them however Junaid and Amir need to be back in our limited format of cricket for world cup

Usman shinwari has shown his worth and should be dropped, needs alot of work, no cricket sense u cannot bowl the same on each pitch. Not sure why he persisted wit over junaid, doesn't offer any better batting or fielding qualitys than junaid or control. Pace wise similar just shinwari maybe 5kph faster not worth it

What's your views on this?

He really is a quality bowler junaid khan and will do well in England I find he is perfect for ODI format

He'll be back for the World Cup. He was never really dropped, just rested due to his fitness issues. Hopefully he can stay healthy for the rest of the year.

Will need to show some good performances in PSL if we are to believe that he is fine.
