President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said the government should “desist and restrain itself” from arresting any popular leader, saying that it could “catapult the country into further chaos”.

He made the remarks while speaking to Lahore-based journalists at Governor House, a press release issued by the President’s Secretariat said.

Although the president did not name any politician in particular, the comments follow the arrest of PTI’s Fawad Chaudhry.

Further, rumours have also circulated regarding the possible arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. On Wednesday, PTI supporters and leaders camped outside Imran’s Zaman Park residence to defend their leader.

A strong Pakistan distracts India from taking on China without facing a threat from Pakistan. US is positioning India to fight their fight against China. If the nuisance of Pakistan isn't poor and destitute then China can bank on Pakistan to ensure India is facing a two front war. Senate sees fiery debate on Fawad’s arrest

The arrest of senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry echoed in the Senate on Thursday, as the party members poured scorn on the Election Commission of Pakistan and chief election commissioner, while the treasury insisted his was a constitutional post and must not be criticised.

Responding to the Opposition Leader Dr Shahzad Waseem’s speech, ex-prime minister and PPP leader Yusuf Raza Gilani said Fawad Chaudhry had been a member of his cabinet and the minister concerned should respond to the issue of his arrest. He emphasized that the caretaker setup and the office of chief election commissioner were constitutional positions and there should be no criticism of them.

Earlier, prior to the start of the Question-Hour, Dr Shahzad Waseem said Fawad had passed the remarks about the conduct of ECP and had not broken the law, but it seemed it broke the ECP’s heart. He contended that the ECP was supposed to maintain impartiality and desist from taking steps that set an impression of bias.

He said the Election Commission always expressed its readiness to hold elections within 60-90 days but it never appeared to be ready to do this constitutional job.

“We do not see both the things happening, as despite all reservations expressed by the PTI, the ECP picked up a controversial person as caretaker chief minister of Punjab. We believe he was not eligible to hold the public office after entering a plea bargain. Everybody knows whose frontman he has been and what he is famous for,” he noted.

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Friday sent PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry to Adiala jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case over alleged incitement of violence against a constitutional institution.

A medical report found alcohol in the blood sample taken from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry at the time of his arrest, indicating that the former minister may have been intoxicated, Express News reported.

"Assuming the arrest time of 5:00am on January 25, 2023, and sample collection time at PIMS Hospital at 9:45pm on January 25, 2023, Fawad Ahmad Chaudhry might have ingested alcohol at 5:00am on January 25, 2023," Punjab Forensic Science Agency report stated.

"If the aforementioned assumption is accurate, then blood alcohol level would be in the lethal alcohol concentration range i.e. 0.4 g/dL," it concluded.

FAWAD CHAUDHRY SLAMS ECP FOR DELAYING MEETING ON PUNJAB ELECTIONS

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry slammed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not organising a meeting on Punjab general elections today (Sunday) despite court orders.

Taking to Twitter, the PTI leader said: “Election Commission of Pakistan should have held a meeting today for Punjab polls, don’t make a joke of the Constitution and court orders.”

He further criticized the ECP, saying there was a general impression that since the electoral watchdog comprised of “Munshis” (clerks or personal assistants), it won’t hold provincial elections like it did in Islamabad.

“This fiddling with the Constitution will cost the country dearly,” warned the former information minister.

Fawad told the ECP that the Constitution is the only agreed document, and if that is also “trampled, then the state of Pakistan will be in serious danger”.

“Enough is enough, our movement for the supremacy of the Constitution is ready. This movement will start with Jail Bharo [movement] and will continue till the restoration of the Constitution,” said Fawad Chaudhry.

PTI leader Fawad Chaduhry said on Tuesday that the Sharif family and PPP’s ’Zardari group’ are following in former military ruler General (retd) Ziaul Haq’s footsteps as they are “trying to delay the elections in the country”.

“They [Sharif and Zardari families] have proved themselves as the successor of General Ziaul Haq who imposed martial law in the country and postponed the elections for nine years,” he said while speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court.

He made these remarks following the hearing of the suo motu case regarding delay in the announcement of the date of provincial assemblies’ elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

A five-member larger bench of the apex court led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial concluded the two-day long proceedings in the case on Tuesday and a verdict in the case would be announced on Wednesday (tomorrow) before 11am.

“Supreme Court is the saviour of the Constitution… their primary job is to protect the Constitution… don’t make Supreme Court a part of public debate,” Fawad said while referring to the ruling PDM’s leaders’ criticism of the top court.

“If elections are delayed beyond 90 days it will shake the foundations of the Constitution… we hope that the court’s verdict will be based on Constitution, he added.

The PTI leader appreciated the apex court for taking suo motu notice of delay in the announcement of polls in Punjab and K-P, saying judiciary’s intervention was the way to resolve the matter following the refusal of the governors to announce election date.

He also referred to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz’s statement wherein she stated the general elections will definitely be held but first both sides of the scales will have to be balanced by overturning the conviction of “innocent Nawaz Sharif” and bringing Imran Khan to justice.

“After (PTI Chairman) Imran Khan's 200 appearances before the court will be completed, elections will be held,” Maryam, who is also the party’s chief organiser, said while addressing a workers’ convention in Sahiwal on Monday.

“Her statement is similar to what General Ziaul Haq had said ‘first accountability then elections’. Subsequently, General Zia delayed the elections for nine years,” Fawad Chaudhry maintained in today’s media interaction.

He said during the hearing of the suo motu case, the PML-N also employed its “old tactics to divide the Supreme Court”.

“They [government] are planning to arrest and disqualify Imran Khan before holding general elections.”

Authorities tried to arrest me again, Fawad tells IHC judge

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has informed Islamabad High Court’s Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb that authorities tried to arrest him despite the court granting bail to him.

The former information minister appeared before the judge again after rushing inside the court from his car over fears that he would be arrested again.

“You should have waited for the written order considering you are a practitioner yourself,” the judge said.

Fawad told the court that he will file a contempt of court case against the authorities.

The court also advised Fawad to file a contempt case and take a copy of the written order as well.

The Islamabad High Court, while ordering the release of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, has ordered not to arrest him in any case, including the undisclosed ones, within the limits of the federal capital for the next two days.

Fawad Chaudhry had earlier returned to the Islamabad High Court seeking protection, shortly after the court issued his release.

The IHC on Tuesday ordered authorities to release the PTI leader from custody after he was detained on May 10 and declared his arrest "illegal".

However, as Fawad made his way to his car following his release, the Islamabad police made an attempt to rearrest him. The police reportedly sealed all entrances at the court premises.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has condemned the events of May 9, particularly mentioning vandalism at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and Lahore corps commander’s residence.

Have watched the YT videos of 3-4 reporters and they are all claiming the following

- Fawad Chaudry played an instrumental role in convincing IK to dissolve the Punjab and KPK Assemblies. This has previously been confirmed by Chaudry Perveiz Elahi. SMQ and Asad Umar were against dissolving the assemblies. IK has since then privately acknowledged this was a blunder and he blames FC for influencing him

- Fawad Chaudry when he was originally arrested in Jan 2023, was negotiating with the PDM and requested to be allowed to enter PML N, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam after consulting, told him prove your worth and since then Fawad Chaudry was leaking IK's and PTI's core meeting details to the PDM and the establishment

- On the day IK was arrested FC spent the entire day at the Supreme Court out of fear of being arrested and sought protection

- IK was furious at the video where FC ran back into the Islamabad High Court after securing bail when the police came back to rearrest him and was like what sort of a message is such a senior PTI leader sending to the rest of the PTI leaders and workers with such antics.

- FC signed the under taking with the PDM of not participating in any rallies against them in exchange for bail without consulting PTI

- The establishment and PDM sent IK voice recordings of FC where FC was back biting and criticizing IK under police custody

- IK and PTI over the last week had blocked FC's number and dismissed him from PTI's whatsapp groups and there was no formal communication b/w IK, PTI and FC for the last week.

Today, Fawad was brought to an Islamabad district and sessions court in an armoured vehicle amid tight security. Footage aired on television showed the former minister handcuffed while his face was covered with a piece of cloth.

The IPP leader’s brother and wife Hiba Chaudhry were also present in court.

At the outset of the hearing, Fawad requested Duty Magistrate Abbas Shah for permission to meet his lawyer, which was granted.

During the hearing, the police contended that Fawad was arrested in a FIR lodged by a citizen namely Zaheer and read it out loud in the courtroom.

The investigating officer said Fawad, during his tenure as federal minister, had promised Zaheer a job in return for Rs0.5 million but never hired him. “When the complainant asked for his money back, Fawad threatened him,” he added.

For his part, Fawad told the judge that he was a former federal minister and a serving Supreme Court lawyer. He also requested access to a doctor citing health issues.

“The person named Zaheer is so lazy that he could not even come to court,” he added. After hearing the arguments, the court granted police two-day remand of the IPP leader.

It has been alleged that Fawad used his political clout in the approval and execution of the project that also involves financial irregularities in land acquisition. He was earlier summoned on Nov 13 for an interview at the NAB office in Rawalpindi.

Fawad is known for changing political loyalties. Previously, he remained a staunch supporter of military dictator Pervez Musharraf and later joined the PML-Q. His next stop was the PPP where he was appointed as a media adviser to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari – the party chairman.

However, he then decided to board the PTI’s ship where he became a close aide to the party chairman while delivering aggressive statements and speeches.

An anti-corruption court granted ex-Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry bail on Monday in a fraud case.

Presiding over the hearing, special judge Ali Nawaz ordered the former federal minister to pay Rs200,000 in surety bond for his release.

The judge ordered for the former federal minister to be released if he was not wanted in any other case. However, Fawad will not be able to secure a release as he is currently under detention in another case of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi booked Fawad, his cousin and frontman Sherbaz as well as others, in a case pertaining to allegedly taking millions of rupees in bribes and misuse of authority for grant of a no-objection certificate (NOC) and public land acquisition for the establishment of a private housing society in Dina area of GT Road.

According to the contents of the First Information Report (FIR), Sherbaz is a prominent figure in corruption and illegal activities.

“Fouq Sherbaz signed an agreement with Pearl Global Housing Society at GT Road, Dina, Jehlum, accepted bribes totalling millions of rupees and took charge of all housing society works, NOC and land clearance,” read the contents of the FIR.

ACE Rawalpindi launched a probe into the issue in April 2023.

Evidence pertaining to the alleged misuse of power by Sherbaz and Fawad and taking more than Rs10 million from the administration of the private housing society emerged during the probe. The inquiry officer then recommended filing a case against the accused.

Subsequently, a case was registered and Fawad was arrested by a team of ACE on November 4.

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry decided to contest the election from inside the jail and filed an application in the local court of Islamabad for permission to conduct affairs in the jail regarding the submission of nomination papers.

In the petition filed by Fawad Chaudhry, the stand has been adopted that he is imprisoned in Central Jail Adiala on judicial custody, to submit papers as a candidate in the election, to appoint his brother as power of attorney for issuing stamp paper and other matters. Want.
