It has been one week since I last had a sugary soft drink after making a massive decision to only drink water and occasionally milk:shafiq2. Feeling like a million dollars now full of energy. Not depending on my car instead love walking as well unlike before so losing a lot of weight as well. Seems as if the suddenly quitting soft drinks has given me diarrhea:fizz How many sugary beverages do you drink?

In Pakistan I was drinking approx 1L of Sprite daily.

Haven’t drank a soft drink since returning though :trump2

Also cut out all process sugar, your energy level rise significantly, it has also helped in studying, retaining more info than usual and also have lost minimal gut i had.

I cant quit soft drinks. Chugging down 1.5-2 litres daily.

There isnt any other substitute except for maybe TANG.

You can still enjoy it once in a while. I rarely drink soft drinks, and when I do, I have the sugar free versions.

I eat a lot of eggs and roasted peanuts every single day, so quitting soft drinks isn't an option. Long term effects of artificial sweeteners worry me though, so I may quit one day.

I cant have a meal without chugging a drink.

Its weird i have a beer belly from drinking coke

Drink nimbu paani with stevia instead. Soft drinks are a recipe for weight gain and insulin resistance.

I don't like soft drinks so it's easy for me to stay away from em. I'll occasionally have 7up, but that's about it.

BTW, carbs=sugar=glucose

All they do is make you insulin resistant over time which means your pancreas will produce 6 to 7 times more insulin than required which will lead to weight gain and eventually diabetes.

Dude diet sodas are worse cause they contain aspartame which is listed as a carcinogen.

I'm not saying I sub normal soft drinks for the sugar free ones. But when I do have a soft drink, which is very rarely, like once every few months, I will have the sugar free one.

Currently sipping Rubicon mango after eating briyani :inzi2

I nominate you for tamgha-e-imtiaz.... such bravery and valour.

Abdullah719 please arrange ikhees toppoon ki salaami at once.

I have free cans available iny office and I still don't drink them. Makes for awkward scenes in restaurants with my friends who have about half litre each on average but hey :P

My skin is also looking a lot better after just one week. Looking like a hero now! Lollywood here I come!!:11:

AHHHHH Rubicon.

One can, and you get addicted to it.

Love that drink, but costs 100 ruppees per can.

I often miss lemonade, you cant get that in pakistan

In canada, you have got tons of substitutes for soft drinks. In Pakistan, except for cola their is nothing.

it looks like i wil be having diabetes soon.

Had a classic can of coke for lunch today :yk

I used to stay away from pop (now I chug a can daily) but can’t resist when I eat out.

The amount of sugar is enourmous in coke. Ofcourse you will have a beer belly, it's the sugar in Beer, which you have replaced from coke.

You need to tone it down before you give yourself a lasting disease.

man the only substitue is water :(

A student pal of mine studying medicine tells me that consuming sugary/fizzy drinks in large quantities almost guarantee's type diabetic 2. This more common form of diabetes takes root due to poor diet and eating habits. The good thing is that diabetes 2 at least can be reversed through changing of lifestyle and eating/drinking healthy. I made the decision to go sugar free after a warning by my doctor.

Good on you.

Have other bad habits to fix namely procrastination, this soft drink issue slips under the rug for me, but i will get to it one of these days.

Those who can't stop themselves. Why buy it in the first place?

I only drink one glass/can/bottle every two-three weeks or so. Usually if I eat out at fast-food (even then, a small is like super large). Doesn't affect me at all cause it's rare.

Stopped drinking coke/pepsi almost 15 yrs ago or even longer. I prefer water/milk or occasionally pink lemonade.

Maybe you drink Fanta or 7 up in secret!!;-) Even so called sugar free soft drinks are very damaging.

I hate the taste of soft drinks anyways, especially coke or pepsi. If I was to count the amount of cups I've drank in my life it would probably be less than 20. I used to drink juice when I was younger but have pretty much quit juice too.

Try sparkling water, it comes in different flavors. It has no sugar and gives you carbonation.

Just washed down some Sindhi biryani with a pint of A&W diet root beer. Diet because healthy :afridi

Yeah good idea. I used to drink tons of energy drinks and soda. I quit cold turkey months ago. If I do have a soft drink it has to be diet and sugar free. I have a simple rule, don’t consume calories through drinks. Keep it at 0

I don't exactly quit however, I only have such drinks during the summer when I can spend as much time as I want in the gym. Otherwise, I drink maybe a can or two a month but that's it. I've already given up on juices completely as they are simply sugar. Despite my efforts though, I cannot completely stop eating sugar as I do like to have a teaspoon in my green tea or warm milk.

My best advice to whomever is trying to quit is to simply drink water whenever you have the desire to have a drink. This will force you to not have soft drink. After a couple of weeks, the thirst for such drinks will die out.

yes where live, but where i live we dont have any other drink.

Theres plently of La Croix copy cats in almost every western country

Pakistan is quite paindu and uneducated in healthy eating, i was shocked that you cant even get diet coke or pepsi anywhere.

People in pakistan consume sugar and hydrogenated oils like no tommorow.

If i have to guess, i have drunk around 1 litre of soft drink in last 5 years. None since 3 months. Its best to get rid of this. Use it to clean your toilet instead (you will be surprised).

I am addicted to soft drinks, especially Coca Cola.I stopped for around a month in Ramazan but come Eid day,I had a cup of Pepsi and I started drinking again.

its not paindu, its about demand. WHen their isnt any demand in market why would someone play such products.

This is a really difficult one. I have no interest in smoking, drinking or drugs any longer, but I can’t seem to kick the Cola.

Classic, Diet and Zero - absolutely love the stuff. An ice cold can of Coca Cola on a hot summer’s day is one of the great pleasures.

I am aware of the potential health risks (20% higher chance of diabetes and heart disease) but I figure I have given up so many things now that I can probably justify 2-3 cans per day.

Who here loved Arizona drinks, use to come for a dollar

I enjoy a Coke Zero once in a while, especially when I eat out. The side-effects of diet sodas are overstated. These days, anything can give you cancer.

Am I the only one who find it easy to quit? I hade a sprite with biryani yesterday after ages.

Microwaved food over the years is more cancer causing than this btw. This can play with sugar levels but cancer? Nah.

Delmonte green apple is the only soft drink I consume now (since the start of this year). Average 1 can per day

way to go.Soft drinks especially coke and co. are the worst.I don't understand how could people enjoy drinking these garbage things.

It’s not the cancer that you get from sugar free drinks.

You body is fooled into thinking it’s had sugar and then starts storing sugar when it realised it hadn’t.

Sugar Free drinks = Weight gain

Best to stay of any fizzy drinks and those juices that come out of a carton.

That’s great mate!!!

Buy yourself a Fitbit.
You can have groups with your friends and do different step challenges...

I started doing 12-15000 steps per day over a year ago and have lost tonnes of weight and feel so much healthier.

demand is only created if the people are educated to how dangerous it is consume what there drinking, unfortunatly people in Pakistan are not and thats why you wont find any diet soda there

This conspiracy theory/pseudoscience has been debunked many times, its usally created by those people who spread theories on how gov. and corporations are trying to kill people.

Aspartame (the sweetner diet drinks use to substitute sugar) has been the most tested substance by the FDA in the last 20 years and nearly all scientific studies done on it have been positive except for those done on rats in large doses, but then even vitamin c is dangerous in large doses.

For next two decades, NAFLD & NASH are going to be greater threat than all cancers combined. I think it already is "The Major Threat" but very underrated and under diagnosed. Soft drinks just accelerate us to NASH.

I practice Hepatology, and I can foresee what a devastating force is threat of NASH.

Kindly kindly, everyone try to adopt a NASH-Diet atleast.

Never really got into sugary things like soft drinks, sweets, chocolate etc, not the processed kind anyway, used to love a plate of rabri, ras malai ras gullah, etc but haven't had those here in ages either. Am quite the sucker for salted stuff though, like chips, salted nuts etc but limit their intake too.

Saw Deadball had posted and immediatley thought I bet he has made some joke about PakLFC has finally moved onto hard drinks.

Ok with that out of the way, I must admit there is only one soft drink I really drink, and it's coke because it goes so well with desi food and a lot of fast food. I don't actually need much though, I only really bother with it if I'm out with the family.

Generally drink about 1-1.5 litres a week, mostly the zero range. Have been gradually cutting down.

Wouldn't dream of offending our very own resident self proclaimed defender of Islam, Pakistan (and very recently non carbonated/sweetened drinks) in such a way.

Soft drinks are worse than cigarettes!

I stopped drinking that sugar filled garbage 7+ years ago. I still have dessert frequently about 2-4 times a week. Hopefully trying to cut that down to once a week

Worse than cigarettes? lol you must either really love smoking or really hate soft drinks.

Eh what? You can rather start what you gave up man.

Well exactly. Smoking is pretty much the leading cause of preventable death worldwide and is the primary factor in almost a dozen cancers. In studies, lifelong smokers knocked about 14 years off their lifespans on average. Somehow I think that soft drinks are slightly less harmful than that.

Cigarettes, drugs and alcohol? Got to be worse surely?

Alcohol weekly still can be good up North compared to 2-3 cans a day! I see Americans indulging in this habbit and the effects on them are remarkably bad!(ofcourse there are various other things).

I take your point. If I could get down to 1 soft drink per day I would be very happy with that.
