What's new

I have quit soft drinks!

Well exactly. Smoking is pretty much the leading cause of preventable death worldwide and is the primary factor in almost a dozen cancers. In studies, lifelong smokers knocked about 14 years off their lifespans on average. Somehow I think that soft drinks are slightly less harmful than that.

Supposedly, majority of lifelong smokers would consume soft drinks too.

I’ve just learned that these sugary drinks are partly responsible for breakouts on the face as well.

I think that he compelled me to stop.

I have quit sugar altogether now using some sweetener instead. No sugar at all even in tea or coffee. No sugary pudding's or sweets either. I am on a roll!:shafiq2

The people who moan about the diet sodas are usually the ones who look the worst themselves.

I don't consume them often but maybe twice a month. Had an uncle try lecturing me and I had to resist myself from saying "oh sorry, I will ask you for advice next time I want to look like you."

Today I celebrated a month of being without soft drinks. Not missing them at all:tahir2.

Haven't been big on soft drinks since my early teens but completely quit in my early twenties. But then again in very strict about my diet these days and have cut out all kinds of packet foods, eat only organic vegetables etc. Must say it's made a massive difference in my life. Some of these processed foods used to make me very lethargic.

When I worked as an Investment Analyst in the City one of the stocks I covered was Tate & Lyle a major sugar manufacturer. They used to produce the sugar (HFCS High Fructose Corn Syrup) for stuff like Coke then they realised the writing was on the wall for Sugar due to Heart/Diabetes links so got into Sucralose/Splenda etc. Frankly I don't trust any of these HIS (High Intensity Sweeteners) replacements for 'Sugar/HFCS' like Aspartame / Acesulfame etc I make an exception for Stevia based sugar replacements because it seems to have some natural basis. I think safest thing to do is simply reduce consumption of all of these things. God gave us H20 for a reason, it's free and it doesn't mask the taste of your food.

Although I dont drink hard drinks, but is it possible that drinking hard drinks are better than drinking high sugar drinks?

Both come with massive health problems. Hard drinks cause liver and kidney disease. Soft and fizzy drinks is inviting diabetes. There is nothing better about either as both are equally harmful.

Also quit eating rice and roti then see the results ;)

Only drink soda maybe once or twice a month and even at that I can only finish half a can.

No rice and roti!!!? I won't feel satisfied having anything else. There is no alternative I can think off other then a kebab diet:inzi2.

I don't think I could last long without my Irn-Bru.

Carbs = Sugar. Eliminate sugar intake and body will burn fat as fuel.

Try meat with salad and see how it goes.

Diet sodas are believed to be linked to cancer, I know many fit people that don't drink diet sodas. At the end of the day what matters is what works for you.

Only safe option is drinking clean water. A glass of milk is nice as well but to much off it can cause skin problems as well.

Yup, the ketogenic diet. Carbs = Sugar = Body converts them into glucose.
