"I hope to replace Misbah or Younis in the Pakistan team" : Usman Salahuddin

3pTppgW.png

Barring his first 3 seasons, that's a very consistent performance, especially given that he was playing in a team where a lot of the time he was carrying the batting.

Think Inzamam didn't pick him because of his low SR.

Given how many Tests recently that Pakistan have failed to even take into the 5th Day, I don't see why that ought to be an issue.

They only gave him one game he should have got more chances like azhar and the rest have

Pathetic that he was given one game and then discarded. His domestic stats are very good and they merited a decent run in the team. Tbh, he should have been picked even before he got his debut in 2018. Usman has been very unlucky and is an example of the lack of meritocracy in Pakistan.

I agree with you it's looking like he ain't in the reckoning atm azwell

We have the tendency to waste players when they are at their best, then bring them into the set-up when they are past their best.

Expect a similar situation to Fawad Alam.

Azhar Ali on Usman Salahuddin's non-selection during the post match presser

"As a player we should keep the example of Fawad Alam to see how long he had to wait for a chance despite performing well; Same with Misbah-ul-Haq who would perform every season but could not find a place in the side; As a player you need to stay focussed and when you get a chance you need to capitalize on it"

"He is a good performer although did not do that well last season but there are opportunities available and my advice to him and other such players is to look at the examples of Misbah and Fawad and keep on scoring runs and keep on knocking on the door of selection"

^^ In other words wait until my best mate Asad buggers off then you might have a chance.

Qea20, Round 3, Day 1:

Central Punjab finished the day at 204 for six thanks to a 79-run partnership between their captain Azhar Ali and Usman Salahuddin.

The pair came together much earlier than they had anticipated as both Central Punjab openers – Ahmed Shehzad (eight) and Abid Ali (six) – were dismissed early in the innings with the scorecard reading 34.

Azhar stroked his 63 runs – the most by any batsman in the innings so far – from 147 balls, 10 of which were dispatched towards the boundary, while Usman fell six runs short of what would have been his 44th half-century at this level.

Instead of Fawad at least Usman should have been tried in his place.

He played really in the chance he got during the England tests.

He was in beast mode in 2011-12 , got his chance in 1 ODI against Wi where he was run out and after that didn’t get a chance. I remember that is the series where Afridi wanted to try out new and young players which was not allowed by then Coach Waqar even in dead rubber and created some quarrel between them, which led afridi to resign captaincy and Misbah took it over

From PCB report:

From PCB Report for Round 10 of QeA20:

A brilliant century from Usman Salahuddin helped defending champions Central Punjab post 309 for four on day one of their 10th round first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture against Southern Punjab at the State Bank Stadium on Saturday.

The knock played a vital role in helping fourth-ranked Central Punjab secure three batting points with still 10 overs remaining.

Thirty-year-old Usman was unbeaten on 139 – his first century of the ongoing season and 24th overall – at the close of play and had the company of Pakistan U19 all-rounder Qasim Akram, who made 12 not out and had scored his maiden first-class half-century in his side’s last match.

Usman crunched 20 fours from the 268 balls he faced. He stitched a remarkable 143-run alliance for the second wicket with opener Ali Zaryab (78, 11 fours) after Muhammad Akhlaq was trapped in front of stumps by pacer Aamer Yamin.

Usman Salahuddin 219* today for Central Punjab

Not good enough for Test cricket; even in a good season he's averaging under-50 and just has 1 century in 19 innings.

A few batsmen who are younger have clearly outperformed him in QAE'21

After top scorer Kamran Ghulam, Usman Salahuddin's faced the most number of balls in this season's QEA Trophy so he knows how to occupy the crease.

Was ludicrous that he was given one Test at Headingley of all places and not given a look thereafter.

Thing is if Usman wasnt good enough, he should never have been selected for Pak test team. However, if he was selected then one match is not enough to any one.

This has been a problem with Pak in last decade or so, inconsistency in selections and too much experimentation. If someone makes it to the national team than he should atleast be given a couple of series or even a season to prove himself.

And he didn't even do badly in that one game all things considered, outperformed a few "seniors" easily.

Should be given a chance has been performing regularly in domestic has more than a decent technique and can occupy the creese for long periods

From QeA20 final between CP and KP:

Usman Salahuddin and Mohammad Saad added 64 runs off 157 balls for the third-wicket before the latter was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rehan Afridi for 26 (79 balls, three fours).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa captain Khalid Usman made the crucial breakthrough when he dismissed Central Punjab batting mainstay Usman for 60 off 130 balls (nine fours). Usman’s crucial wicket fell with the score at 124 in the 47th over. Usman added 48 runs for the fourth-wicket with Saad Nasim.

Usman Salahuddin has also gone past 800 runs in this QeA - he is currently on 857 runs

Usman Salahuddin 51* (147) at stumps on Day 4 of the QeA Trophy 2020/21 final vs KP.

He's playing a crucial hand for CP in their 4th innings chase of 356, with a further 216 runs to get tomorrow with 8 wickets in hand.

Can he go big tomorrow and get CP over the finish line? If he does, that would lay down a big marker for Mohammed Wasim and co

Usman, who has been the backbone of Central Punjab’s batting efforts throughout the tournament, posted his eighth half-century of the season and was batting on 51 (147 balls, three fours) at close of play.
