"I plan to represent Australia in the World Twenty20 in 2020" : Usman Qadir

Saw him bowl 1 over at the BBL. Never seen a worse over from legspinner. 1 Longhop after the other and at leg stump as well. Cannot understand how he is playing BBL.

Not selected for previous game, will he play tonight?

Lets see if picked for today's BBL game or not.

It’s kind of funny. Because his one of their foreign players. And in the BBL, you are only allowed two foreign players in the xi. Despite that, his team is preferring a local player over him.

Doesn’t look very good in the bbl albeit he’s had limited opportunities.

Still only 25 though which is young for a leggie.

Where does his career go from here?

I think it’s safe to say he won’t be anywhere near the national side anytime soon. Needs to put in a lot of work if he wants to play cricket at the highest level.

Son of Pakistan great booked for speeding 50km/h over limit in Perth

Perth Scorchers spinner Usman Qadir, the son of former Pakistan great Abdul Qadir, is in hot water with Western Australian cricket after being booked for speeding.

The leggie has been advised he will have to front court after allegedly driving 50km/h over the speed limit in East Perth. It's believed he was clocked at about 100 km/h in a 50km/h zone.

Qadir was dropped for the Scorchers' game against the Melbourne Stars on Sunday but it's believed his demotion was on form and not for disciplinary reasons.

"We are extremely disappointed that this has occurred," WACA chief executive Christina Matthews said.

"The WACA takes road safety very seriously and we understand that speeding is a key contributor to accidents on our roads.

"We expect all our players and staff to drive responsibly and our players know their behaviour has an impact on the community as role models."

Qadir moved to Australia in 2016 and played in Sydney's grade cricket competition last summer. He made his debut in Australian domestic cricket this season for Western Australia in the JLT Cup, capturing three wickets in a win over Victoria.

Qadir's father, Abdul, is one of Pakistan's greatest bowlers, capturing 236 Test wickets with his leg-spin to be fifth in his country's wicket-takers' list.

The 25-year-old, however, wants to represent Australia and has aspirations to play in the Twenty20 World Cup in 2020.

He played in the Prime Minister's XI game earlier this season in a sign he is at least on the radar of national selectors.

"No more Pakistan. I want to play for Australia definitely, 100 per cent. Because I did not get any chances in Pakistan," Qadir said in September.

"There is politics. I did not get any chances [in Pakistan].

"Hopefully I will perform well in Australia and grab the chance to play.

"Hopefully I will get citizenship in two years’ time. My goal is to play for Australia at the 2020 World T20."

“There was politics” - if anything, it should’ve been easier for him to get into the side as he’s the son of a former cricketer and Pakistan are known for ****** players.

If he doesn’t get his chances in Australia, will he revoke Australian citizenship and move to South Africa? - Heck no.

Most roads in Australia are 60kph except for the narrow busy residential streets which are 50. Doing 100 on their is sheer stupidity. People lose their licence for doing 55.

Chosen to play for Central Punjab today in the National T20 Cup.

Wicket vs Sindh for him after some loose deliveries - lets see how much he ends up with by end of the game.

Gets his 2nd - removes a dangerous looking Khurram Manzoor - done well.

Feel bad for him, he's a massive talent, get big spin both ways at good pace but sadly he is still horribly inaccurate, how come Pak players does not improve under domestic cricket?

Best find of the day imo.
Pakistan should immediately take him before Australia steal him away :P

If I am think of the same player, he seems to inaccurate and tall to be a leg spinner.

He is unlikely to get opportunities for the long term in Australia or Pak.
Maybe he should work with Mushie….the leggie.

His lengths were all over the place. Possibly due to the dew... See what I did there :inti

Really needs to cut out the no-balls, unforgivable for a spinner. Should have had Khurram Manzoor out twice before he actually got him.

Who is the commentator that sounds like he is 120 years old? Dear God, he is awful.

If Usman has given up on Pakistan and only plans to represent Australia then there is no point in wasting a spot on him in our national tournament. Better to give it to someone looking to make it to the Pakistan national team

Hope this time he gets to play for Pakistan - part of the T20I squad for Australia tour.

It's an Australian master stroke. Send Usman back to Pakistan to get some insight about our players, then return to Australia and tell them what he knows.

He is not international standard and was deluded to think that he could break into the Australian side.

He is not international standard and was deluded to think that he could break into the Australian side.

Yeah, he was quite poor in the big bash. He got so much hype because of his Father. He bowls way too many freebies, has little control and bowls a lot of long hops.

Many in the Western Australian domestic system have spoken about how his attitude in general was terrible. The fact he also got caught speeding way over the limit. Can't believe he's been given a chance.

He feels he is entitled to all this due to his name.

Misbah speaking to the press today:

"Usman Qadir is playing and in T20, there is a spark in his bowling. He has some experience of playing in Australia in the BBL. All the white ball cricket he's played, he has some zip in his bowling. He has an advantage due to height and he has variations, a good flipper, googly, leg-spin is also good. Considering that we're facing an issue with our wrist-spin backup and his experience in Australia, we picked him in the team and we're also keeping the T20 World Cup in Australia in mind"

"I haven't heard anything (about Usman Qadir applying for Australian nationality). He is playing cricket in Pakistan and is here. If he is playing here and if we feel he can be a future prospect, we will back him"

So I guess the plan to play for Australia can now be scrapped.

His father death brings him prosperity in his career... Otherwise he would have been labeled as P@rchi

Both bangladesh and Pakistan are trying to promote wrist spinners now.

Seeing the success of Rashid khan, imran tahir, and the indian spinners there seems to be a realization now that the countries are lacking quality wrist spinners and more needs to be done to develop some.

Also, this explains why wrist spinners are running through pakistani and Bangladeshi line ups, because they dont get to play quality wrist spin in domestic.

But I don't know how I feel about promoting a below average leggie.

Let's see how he does, I will reserve judgement.

Its sad that his father could see him get selected for Pakistan's national team. Its a great achievement and I believe he has the skills which just need to be refined and he just needs to be consistent.

Usman Qadir in November 2018:

"I am learning the national anthem of Australia at the moment. I love this country. I love the people. I love the culture. I feel I belong here and it’s where I want to live my life and play my cricket."

And now this third-class bowler has the privilege of playing for Pakistan. Shame on Misbah for selecting this mediocrity over quality spinners.

Hopefully he gets picked, gets spanked like no tomorrow and never gets picked again because that is what he deserves.

A good leg-spinner is an asset but a poor leg-spinner is a lability. This ungrateful, entitled brat belongs in the latter category.

This guy is trash. Surely could’ve selected someone like Mohammad Mohsin ahead of him?

Another lazy cricketer who would probably fail the fitness test under the previous coaching setup alongside Irfan and Bhatti

I agree with the liability bit.

I say give him the series before officially discarding him.

I am still bitter about imran tahir not being given chances and we saw what he did for south africa. Although perhaps tahir wouldn't have developed the same way if he played for Pakistan anyways.

Still, I think that was a big miss, so give Usman a chance, if he doesn't perform then atleast there will be no regrets years from now.

Shinwari did well in the BBL.

But the team selection is fastly turning nepotistic.

Irfan is a close friend of Misbah, while Usman Qadir is Babar Azam's best friend.

From PCB:

The national selectors have also included legendary leg-spinner late Abdul Qadir’s son Usman Qadir in the T20I squad. The 26-year-old has played for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash T20 League in Australia.

In the ongoing National T20 tournament, Usman has impressed with his miserly economy rate and wicket-taking abilities. He has snapped-up four wickets so far while his economy rate is less than seven runs per over.

Usman Qadir said: “I am really happy at my inclusion in the national team. I have good experience of Australian pitches and conditions, I would try my best to live-up to the expectations of the head coach and selectors.

“My father re-invented the googly and I feel that I am its custodian, I learned a lot from him and now is the time to deliver, when I left for Australia my father asked me to give it my all to don Pakistan colours and I am proud that I have made it to the national squad.

“Leg-spinner, googly and flipper are my main weapons, I am confident that I can trouble the batsmen on Australian pitches with these three deliveries.”

History is repeating itself
Should imam ul haq have gone to the World Cup over abid Ali?

Turns out this was all one big plan from Misbah and co. all along which has been in the works since last Feb!

Send Qadir to Aus, get him acclimatised to the conditions, get him to play against the Aussie players, get to know them and their weaknesses and then once he has gathered all the insiders knowledge, select him for Pakistan AGAINST the Aussies!

Genius! :misbah

Oct 9: Reporters ask Misbah about U.Qadir, he replies asking if Qadir is playing domestic cricket.

12 days later: U.Qadir is in the squad to going to Australia.

Less than a year after declaring he had turned his back on Pakistan for good in a bid to play for Australia, Usman Qadir has been named in a Pakistan squad to tour Australia next month.

Qadir, 26, the son of Pakistani great Abdul Qadir who died of a cardiac arrest last month, was included in a new-look Pakistan squad for the upcoming tour of Australia.

Usman, who like his late father is a leg-spinner, has been included in the squad for the three-match Twenty20 international series, while 16-year-old paceman Nasim Shah is among the fresh faces in the squad for the two Tests that follow.

With Sarfraz Ahmed sacked as captain, Babar Azam will lead the T20 side while Azhar Ali has been named Test captain.

Sarfraz has been overlooked for both squads, replaced as wicketkeeper by Mohammad Rizwan.

But it is the selection of Qadir which is most remarkable. The leggie made his domestic debut in Pakistan in 2010 but, fed up with the politics of Pakistani cricket, headed to Australia, playing for the Perth Scorchers and Western Australia as well as a stint with Sydney grade club Hawkesbury.

He made his debut for WA in a one-dayer against Victoria at Junction Oval 13 months ago, with figures of 3-50.

Interviewed after the game, Qadir said he wanted to fast-track his Australian citizenship with an eye to playing for Australia at the 2020 T20 World Cup.

"No more Pakistan. I want to play for Australia definitely, 100 per cent," Qadir said.

"Because I did not get any chances in Pakistan. There is politics. I did not get any chances."

He reiterated these sentiments in an interview with SBS as recently as January this year.

However in early February it emerged that Qadir had been charged with driving 50km/h over the speed limit in East Perth.

He was censured by the WACA and following mixed form for the Scorchers and WA he didn't feature in any Australian domestic games after February 1.

On February 28, Qadir was fined $1000 by a Perth court for one count of "reckless driving exceeding the speed limit by 45 km/h or more in a confiscation zone". He also lost his licence for six months.

He returned to Pakistan, playing a handful of domestic T20s for local side Central PNJB before being picked for the upcoming tour.

Hawkesbury have meanwhile been expecting Qadir to return at some stage this season with the club not anticipating his national call-up.

Pakistan chief selector and head coach Misbah ul-Haq said Qadir had been picked in part for his experience in Australian conditions.

"Usman Qadir is playing and in T20, there is a spark in his bowling," Misbah was quoted as saying by Pakistan cricket website PakPassion.

"He has some experience of playing in Australia in the BBL. All the white ball cricket he's played, he has some zip in his bowling.

"He has an advantage due to height and he has variations, a good flipper, googly, leg-spin is also good. Considering that we're facing an issue with our wrist-spin back-up and his experience in Australia, we picked him in the team and we're also keeping the T20 World Cup in Australia in mind.

Pakistan squads
T20Is: Babar Azam (capt), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Musa Khan, Shadab Khan, Usman Qadir, Wahab Riaz.

Tests: Azhar Ali (capt), Abid Ali, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Imran Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Kashif Bhatti, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Musa Khan, Nasim Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Yasir Shah.

Journalists doing the selector's job now lol

I knew it straight away that Misbah had buckled in front of the media. Usman Qadir doesn't merit selection. Mohsin from Balochistan is bowling way better and deserved it more. But his selection has caused Shaddy to pull his socks up. Let's hope Qadir doesn't stay, he's as mediocre as they come.

when JK threatened to move to UK, he got a call up. And now this guy.

Usman Qadir at a media interaction today:

"When I was going to play in Australia, my father said that his wish was for me to play for Pakistan and wear the star on my chest. Everyone desires to represent their country and it was the same for me. There is nothing like playing for your own country"

"My name came up for the squad and I am really missing my father, if he was alive he'd be proud of me"

"I wasn't getting chances to prove myself and I had some family issues etc. as well so I wanted to move on to Australia and try playing cricket there. 3 of my brothers also played cricket and they couldn't progress. I had grown up watching them"

"My father always told me to be strong. When I was named in a tour of West Indies, I got a call during a match from PCB. After that, I couldn't go and play there. I came home and I was crying. My father said if you want to go to West Indies, I can send you there"

"After that I didn't play cricket for Pakistan"

"My father told me to stay strong and to keep trying, you can make the Pakistan team with some good performances"

"When I spoke to him last time also, he stated that he wanted to see me playing for Pakistan. If he was alive today, he would've been very happy and would've given lots of love"

"I have a very good relationship with players I played with in Australia, they congratulated me on getting picked for Pakistan"

"Pitches in Australia are fast, while Pakistan's wickets don't assist spinners. Spinners get hit a lot and then focus on just bowling at one spot. Australians hunt for spinners because they have less so they struggle to face spinners"

"I have watched Imran Tahir bhai since my childhood, he used to come to our house. He's a great man. Whenever I had any problem in Australia or I spoke to my father about something, I would talk to Imran bhai also and take both their opinions. He also messages me and tells me to ask him for advice if I ever need it"

"My father suggested I should learn how to bowl the yorker. I tried very hard to bowl that delivery but over the past 6-8 months I have started getting some control over it. I don't bowl it in matches. Once I have mastered it, I'll try to bowl it in a match"

"My father taught me to not take pressure against any team. If you look at matches I played in Australia, and what I learned there, I really like that they teach you how to handle pressure"

Perhaps a few games as a mark of respect to the late Abdul Qadir. I don't envisage a long international career for Usman. It's not coincidental that Usman is picked for national duty a few weeks after his Dad's demise.

This is international cricket, you don’t pick players out of emotion. Yes it’s sad his father passed away, but that’s not a reason to pick him. There are more deserving players than him.

They do in Pak! Not only for sentimental reasons but money as well. :shezzy2

True. Only in Pakistan have I heard of a farewell match, or a sympathy selection.

...or oldies being selected for a century they made 10 years back. This is why our Cricket is heading the West Indies way now.

Lucky Australia didn't select this useless player. I think Misbah got pressured to select him even Zulfi is better bowler than him

It may sound strange but Usman Qadir, Md Irfan and Azhar Ali may be a good shield for Misbah after Australia Whitewash. He can always blame Nasim, Shahin, Musa and Hasnain for them not to old/experience enough to compete.

Dont know why he has been selected and dont know what ibtesam and mohsnin have done wrong to even below him for selection.

It's quite weird changing your stance every now and then. I wonder how Aussie players will take this since he has played for Prime Minister's XI. I reckon he will do well!

This mentally of "if I'm selected for the team it's because of my talent and nothing else yet if I'm not selected for a particular team it's nothing to do with my lack of talent but it's because of non cricketing reasons/bias" is such a toxic attitude to have.

He feels very entitled due to who his Father is. The guy's as mediocre as they come. And he thought he's good enough to play for Australia. He was shown his place in the first over he bowled in BBL. According to some people here, club cricketers in Perth said he had a terrible attitude.

Misbah speaking to media today

Shadab Khan was out of form and there have been limitations in the area of leg-spin; A few youngsters have come up in the season and UQ is one of them; he played the T20 tournament at home and did well as did a couple of youngsters as well; We chose Usman Qadir out of those as he has bit of experience of bowling in Australia and knows the conditions; With his height he gets bounce as well; bowls a good googly and flipper as well, and leg-spin

We needed to have a backup for Shadab, especially before the World Cup

Both Zahid Mahmood and Mohammad Mohsin appear to have more control in their bowling but now Qadir junior has been picked so we must back him

Seems that he's been picked as he has plenty of experience of Australian conditions.

If he plays and flops, Misbah will get plenty of stick.

Well he selected him after some media guy told him to do so , I don't think Misbah will be getting the stick , BTW its unlikely that he will get a game as Shadab has improved his form in last few games.

Its all depend on the practice game now.
