What's new

"I stand before you and openly admit that this is my failure, just as my current form is a personal failure": Mohammad Rizwan

Riz's time in t20 is up... He should just sideline himself if he really wants to be remembered in a positive way. So far he has been attracting a lot of criticism, which is fair in every way. His side his losing left right and center and he at the top, has been an utter failure.

But, when many posters including myself were saying that he shouldn’t be in the t20 squad, we were vilified for it.

So, tell us who should replace Rizwan in t20’s for Pakistan.

He should never be picked for the T20I side again. Franchises work differently and if they are willing to pay him for these kinds of rubbish performances , he can make some more money instead of retiring.

Suspect that he is a couple of years older than his listed age and his relatively limited hand eye is gone now.

You can make adjustments in the longer formats but T20 is a brutal format. You need explosive hitters
He's fast regressing as an ODI batsman too, despite going through a purple patch as recent as 2023. At this age, if you start getting exposed at the crease technically, it is never a good omen. And it generally points towards - this player is on the downward slope. His strike-rotation has also gotten much worse. He's striking at 72 in the past year, which maybe might have been an acceptable strike-rate for a middle-order batsman in the late-90s, but definitely not in this era... not by a longshot.

Pakistan need to seriously start looking at wicketkeeper batsmen who can soon replace him in ODI too.

Like I said, his record is impressive, the rest on this list are poor, compared to India, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa

Face the facts, we are a garbage cricket team that cannot bowl and cannot bat to modern standards
In T20I 6 hitting cannot be taken in isolation as being impressive. Yes he has 1 six per inning which looks good on paper but again he does play most amount of deliveries in an innings at an average as he strikes at 125. For example Virat has 124 6s in 117 innings but again he strikes 12 points higher than Rizwan. Someone like KL Rahul who batted mostly at the top of the order and probably is never going to play another T20I for India has 99 sixes in 68 innings at an overall SR of 140. So even though impressive by Pakistan standards, he consumes lots of deliveries to hit that 1 six and thereby putting pressure on other players. His SR means that he is scoring 50 of 40 balls on an average, which is not that great for a top order batter.

Fact that this guy was picked by a BBL team shows the standard of BBl
I think he was signed as a package with Babar. This is the agent at work.

Babar’s deal of let’s say $300k included Rizwan (for free) at Renegades. This is what I speculate.

The agent was trying very hard for Rizwan to play leagues during his exodus to somehow keep him in the limelight for Pakistan. I think he played CPL for hardly anything as well. Most likely his accommodation, food and travel was only covered by the franchise.

Knowing the fans of these two chamchey, they would proudly declare the fees they were sold for in franchise cricket

To this day we do not know what fee was paid to Rizwan in CPL and BBL.

Also notice how Babar and Rizwan didn’t even put their name forward for the Hundred auction this time, most likely because they were told no franchise is interested in the two.

The agent knows that it’s more damaging to the players if they register in hope of being picked and then end up being snubbed. It destroys their brand and what could be salvaged through other inferior paydays like BBL or CPL.

In Rizwan’s case, if you are getting a keeper+bat with international experience for free, you wouldn’t mind taking him. My speculation is that the $300-400k was paid to the agency in which Babar probably took a massive chunk, let’s say 70%, the agent took 10% and Rizwan 20%. This is how I think he got Rizwan through the door in BBL. Rizwan being in the desperate situation he was in considering he was totally out of favour with Pakistan’s T20 setup took this as an opportunity to stay in the limelight to push his case for T20 World Cup selection. The strategy was good tbf but he failed unlike Babar who’s PR is just too strong.
