"Azhar Ali is in good form and Asad Shafiq needs some back up and should be able to lift his game up too"

"I think Sarfaraz Ahmed is a good leader and think they will be able to handle the pressure very well"

"Babar Azam has grown really well and he has already performed well everywhere, not just in T20Is and ODIs"

"Pakistan are in a nice shape at the moment so I think it will be a good series"

Looks like he will be a Younis type batsman but the other way round very good in ODIs and average in test cricket.

Babar will have a break out season soon. He is too good to get out cheaply like he is doing now. Its only a matter of time and he will be the backbone of Pak's Test batting lineup too. He just needs one big innings under his belt. Probably needs some luck to get the confidence going.

Wont happen anytime soon..

This could have been true if he had the FC performances to back that up.

He has absolutely no performance at domestic level barring that double century.

He will have to score big in UAE soon as away against England and South Africa he won't be dominating easily you don't want a Younis type batsman in ODIs who hangs on too long because of success in the other format.

He has the potential to be a better batsman than Younis Khan.

In ODIs for sure he will be better in tests it's highly unlikely unless he starts dominating from now on.

Younis Khan’s achievements are a result of sheer hard work. To succeed in test cricket that’s what you need. Work hard on your technique and survive for as long as possible at the crease. Babar I feel is more talented than Younis Khan. His batting looks more fluent. Just needs to adjust his technique for test cricket.

Totally normal to tout oneself as a role model for others to follow.

Totally different players. Younis was a master against spin and average against pace while Babar's weak point is spin. Younis scored a lot of runs playing sweep shot against spin while I have not ever seen Babar playing a sweep shot.

All formats combined Babar is on his way to become Pakistan's best ever batsman. He just needs to find the right balance between attack and defence when it comes to test and soon big innings will come.

Only if he can work hard as Younus. If he works as much he might actually end up better. Younus Khan is a self made great with lots of hard yards. An ideal bat to follow for a budding test bat

"There is no one more humble than Younis Khan himself" - Younis Khan

Irrespective of Younis's past behavior this is actually a very good compliment.

Unlike other ex-players who make wild claims as "xy Pakistani player is more talented then some great player of another country" which is pretty arrogant and disrespectful.

Not the best way to put things, Younis.

At first it might appear egoistic and narcissistic. Give it a second thought.

It is much better than saying Babar is going to outperform AB de Villiers or has more talent than Tendulkar. The type of comparison which ex pak players and fans make alike. Such comparison at their core are disrespectful and insensitive.

While from Pakistani perspective Younis is indeed a Test great and no one has as much runs as him. It is an established fact. When you have such a huge reputation in your country it does take a lot of character to even humor the thought that an upcoming newbie is going to accomplish that which took you a lot of hard work and years of dedication to achieve. That two only a year after your retirement.

Where other see narcissism I see humility.

Political saviness was never his fortune.

Scoring hundreds in the 4th innings was. :yk

I dont know what you are on about mate. When you say that player X is going to surpass tendulkar or is as good as him, you show that the benchmark of being good is tendulkar.

But when you put yourself as the benchmark, that narcisstic af.

You are either a lawyer or onto some good stuff. :))

I won't even be surprised if we found out that Younis Khan (occasionally) addressed himself in the third person :yk

Hopefully Babar Azam can live up to these words by getting runs against England. YK was a great player, definitely a Pakistani legend.

I think he meant in a good way. As maybe Babar Azam will be a batting leader and vital senior player in batting lineup for the future.

Any way that is just my interpretation and I won't jump into judgement before reading his complete interview. This is not the first time he as been misunderstood in interviews. Sadly for a player of his experience, his communication skills has always been a bit weak in interviews.

It is true that Younis is a test great and is one of Pakistan's most successful players in tests. However, even in his own country, there is a certain Javed Miandad who is widely rated as the greatest Pak batsmen by pretty much every single sensible poster.

If Younis would have said, "Babar is the next Miandad", it would have made a lot sense but setting yourself a benchmark when you aren't even the best in your country is not the good talking at all IMO.

I'm pretty sure Younis believes himself to have surpassed Miandad, which is why he's set himself as the benchmark.

Heh.

You'd hope he doesn't turn out to be another Younis i.e. UAE Khan.

Needs to become a dynamic batsmen who doesn't chicken out against pacers and is good in LOIs as well.

Follow the likes of Saeed/Kohli/Inzi.

Won't be easy to surpass Younis in tests. Hopefully Babar can start performing in tests.

However, Babar will have to do lots of hardwork to reach even Younis Khan level in tests. In limited overs, these two aren't even a comparison.

oh god the ego

Younis Khan is Pakistan's highest achieving batsman if we go by runs and tons, at an average of over 50. It is more of an ego to hear this type of drivel from insecure fan.boys like yourself.

Finally someone with a bit of common sense. Well said.

if it was some other player it would had been ignored.

But everyone knows the ego of Younis Khan.
Look i dont mind a narcissist, but thing is I hate it when the person himself denies about being a Narcissist yet at the same time acts like one

UAE Khan with an away average of 45+ against the big guns. Absolute rubbish.

Lords is in reality a flat flat deck. Babar should try and get a ton here

Still i would wait to see the full interview before forming an opinion. Individual quotes never convey the full meaning of what a person is trying to say & to what question he might have replied.

Maybe the question he was asked was who do you think will be the next YK or something along those lines. In subcontinent, journos ask these type of questions a lot.

If you know Younis, then you'd also know that he talks about himself in the 3rd person and presents that character in the 3rd person as something of a role model, marvelous, super hero.

Doesn't require any rocket science.

You need to look up the definition of being egoistic.

It has nothing to do with the past.

It's the present statement.

Babar is a very poor starter in test cricket at the top level you need to start well its a problem that has plagued him since junior cricket he would always have string off very low scores you cant afford that at this level however you can overcome this KP said he became a much more consistent batsman when he improved on his starts.

Younis Khan speaking today after Day 1 of the Test match between England and Pakistan:

"Let's simplify our target for tomorrow; let's bat tomorrow and get to 200 runs"

"Even if the lead is low, the pressure on England will make them make mistakes"

"It's not going to be easy tomorrow as England will come with a plan [against us]"

"There isn't that much pressure on Abbas [as batsmen are not paying attention to him but planning more for Amir]"

"Today our bowlers, fielders and batsmen played well and most importantly we lost just one wicket in those last crucial 20 overs or so"

"Sarfaraz's captaincy was excellent today"

"We must appreciate Joe Root for his brave decision to bat first as he tested himself in tough conditions"

"It's possible that Joe Root's plan pays off in the final analysis"

"It's good to see that we played with 4 fast bowlers instead of 3 as we used to"

"I am seeing more runs for Imam in the next innings based upon the way he was playing and his body language today"

Well he has a chance to show some form here - no need to hurry - take your time and please play the short ball well!

This is a brilliant and confident batting display from Babar.

England as a team is not in form and that is important, whether you have Anderson or the best all-rounders does not matter if your form as a team is not good"

"I feel that appointment of Joe Root as captain was a bit too early [in time]"

"We should not pressure on Yasir Shah [due to Shadab's success]"

"England seem to be panicking but if you look at all our players, they played properly with a plan"

For that he will have to be a man and bat at no.3 , he is hiding behind 4 batsman now after being the 'future prospect' for 11 test matches and failing
