Pakistani international cricketers are in Karachi for the Ramazan Day and Night tournament and the sweltering heat has taken its toll on them.

"There is a difference between the heat of Karachi and Punjab," says fast bowler Muhammad Irfan. "Hence I use wet towels on my body to ensure it does not get too heated."

Umar Akmal takes special care to stick to a diet that helps him stay hydrated throughout the day.

"I try not to eat something too heavy or oily," he said. "I drink plenty of water and eat yoghurt so that my body is not heated up when we play matches."

It's hard to believe he's just 27 years old. Yet most us know he is a gone case. Generally players of such cases are well over 30.

Honestly just reading that thread title made me laugh

Im past the phase of feeling dissapointed

Kohli is talking about not eating carbs, or curry for years.

This guy is happy with not eating oily food. The quality of diet, UA aspires is equal to what my 60 year old dad aspires to. I am sure most fit guys here, especially those who play sports and build in the gym aspire to better diet standards than a professional cricketer earning millions of rupees.

And people say UA was not treated properly....

Wow, nutritional relevations with Umar Akmal should be a TV show.

BTW, Kohli never talked about not eating carbs. Carbs are one of the macro nutrient which is essential for any human body. Yes, he does emphasise on eating right carbs from right food like oats, quinoa etc. Fitness is all about eating right food, in right amount, at right time. And talking about Umar Akmal he doesn't know a thing about fitness.

It's time to announce retirement accepting the fact you are not good enough to represent any international team. Learn some comedy lessons from youtube and entertain public on stage.

you know what I mean....only eating complex carbs at the right time. Avoiding simple carbs especially at night etc etc

It's almost like he just realised this and wanted the interviewer [and his followers] to know this :))

I have a feeling he will make a Malik like comeback after he is 30+, but lets see

The thing is if he comes back and plays test cricket and does well it will be a big case of what might have been he was never backed and developed in tests dropped never to be seen again at the age of 21-22.
By now he could've played 60 tests averaging 45+ possibly and still had 10 years left in him of course attitude and fitness problems haven't helped but he should've been backed in his early twenties as a top order batsman.

there was no reason to back him in his test career

his peak was a 20-30 at a 80 SR and then getting out to a terrible shot

He was terrible on the England tour of 2010 asides from one innings in a dead match which no one wanted to play. He failed subsequently as well

It really boggles the mind. Umar Akmal seems to be the only player who should be rewarded for his failures with even more responsibility rather than being dumped

It's true he averaged 24 on that tour but only one Pakistani batsman averaged over 30 Zulqarnain playing only 2 matches and scoring 88 in one innings it just came at the wrong time seaming conditions low scores a young developing batsman if the tour was in UAE most likely Akmal wouldn't have been dropped and would've been a mainstay.
Regardless he didn't have the captains backing who liked Shafiq which looks like a failed investment.

Why can't this Umar Akmal chapter just close already. I have never seen a worse cricketer hyped up this much. If there was a toss up between Umar Akmal and Asad Shafiq for the ODI side, I'd prefer the latter even though he himself is the definition of mediocre.

I disagree with the notion that he didn't have the captains backing but even if he did not you have to remember that he has been a troublemaker and underachiever since his under 19 days. Remember he got kicked out of the Academy as a teenager and had trouble on under 19 tours.

Also... For a six year period he has like 2(?) FC centuries in domestic cricket. There was no cricketing argument for his inclusion. He got backed undeservedly if anything . For eg he got a much longer rope than he deserved in ODIs.

The Shafiq matter is a seperate issue and totally unrelated. Certainly he has had his moments especially in UAE, SL and last England tour. Also has centuries in Aus and SA. Certainly not a roaring success and actually very frustrating but it's safe to say Umar Akmal certainly did not have the temperament or technique to play some of the innings Shafiq played. In any case Shafiq's failures do not automatically make the trash batsman called Umar Akmal better all of a suddenly

Btw on a seperate note

This Karachi weather is no weather to be playing cricket

It's 40+ degrees Celcius everyday and it's madness to be playing intense sports when you have eaten or drank anything for 15 hours of the day

While I agree he doesn't deserve selection currently fitness and attitude problems in the past he should've been developed as a top order batsman.
He has 6 FC centuries after being dropped he played best in the 3 years after being dropped averaged almost 60 in FC ages 22-24 but nothing happened over time he's become more of a lower order hitter in ODIs because that's what he's been doing mostly and now his careers gone south currently.
If say he comes back age 32 for example does well in tests then there is big case of what might have been 10 years of a potential great career being wasted due to inept management and captaincy ( the captain can get players selected).

Im comparing him to Shafiq because he took his place in the test team and has been ever present since to me Akmal would've been better and scored a lot quicker too which helps you win matches.

Why can this guy not hire a personal trainer? Holy.

On a relevant note, if I was ever spotting him I'd just run away when the bar is on his chest. :asif

Like Akmal has been scoring runs quickly and winning matches in ODIs?

When will this "blame everybody but Umar Akmal for his failures stop "! What has Umar Akmal done to warrant a place in the test squad . He had the captains backing in the odi squad and so many times threw his wicket away at the wrong time or in the power plays by playing an irresponsible shop. He has had countless comebacks in the Odi squad and has basically digressed everytime. I would be more than happy to see a firing Umar Akmal in the Pakistan squad , but it really is frustrating when people still assume he has not been given a fair rope when he has played over 100 one day matches .

His record at no 6 is average 37 strike rate 88 he did enough for a promotion up the order opening wouldn't have been a bad idea.
In tests he averaged 57 first year 24 second year the tour to England had it been in UAE he would still be playing tests and might have been a top order ODI batsman.
Now the effects of not grooming more batsmen are showing Umar and Fawad should've been backed in tests.

And? What do you want us to do about it?

I heard 60-70 people lost their lives in the last 3-4 days in Karachi alone due to heat stroke.

Yes he wasn't a match winner in ODIs down the order had his moments but didn't look like ATG potential like Dhoni but was never promoted and given the licence up the order for 4-5 years played solely as a no6 that's hardly batting development.
Great players don't become great on their own it's in a batting culture plus mental discipline and guidance coupled with backing and confidence from the coach and captain.

Yup, Karachi in recent years has literally become an Oven. It is exceedingly hot and almost unbearable at times. Plus K.Electric doesn't help either so all round April, May, June and some parts of July are extremely warm almost up to 45 Degrees C (every other day or so).

But But But....Global Warming is a Hoax
