"I want to play the T20 World Cup and then exit international cricket" : Mohammad Hafeez

Hafeez with his batting and more than handy off spin is indispensable to Pakistan’s t20 World Cup chances.
Hafeez with just his batting is a very useful middle order batsman for t20 World Cup.

With so many useless players in the squad who have yet to make their mark in any significant manner it’s good to have hafeez around. He’s a genuine world class limited over player.

Your parameters for world class must be very low .
He has played 5 t20 world cups . One 50 in 23 matches and an average of 20!

He averages about 28 in world cups .

Is that really a definition of world class .

He played well today but you can expect him to do this . After all he has been playing for 16 years .

Their is a reason he averages 25 in T20s and 31 in one day matches . He is an average player who has overstayed his welcome in the team by at least 5 world cups

I find all this “big talk” about Hafeez very depressing .
He does wonders in bilaterals when the pressure is less . But the way some people are talking it’s like all of a sudden he is a world beater after today’s knock .

His career average is 25 and what’s worse his average in T20 world cups after playing about 25 matches is 20! SR of 105.

Hafeez is mediocre as they come unfortunately. Nothing against the guy , but by harbouring ambition to play in another World Cup when he has played and failed in so many previously is just merely being selfish.

I rate him for his CT final knock but Pakistan are doing them selves no favours by continuously going back to Hafeez .

I don’t have an issue with his age . It’s more the fact that he is a proven failure on the big stage .

His scoring runs today is not good for Pakistan cricket, we going through the same cycle which left us failed to produce new batting talent. Hafeez and other oldies will make some runs in UAE or now in flat wickets of Pakistan , against some innocent attack and will keep their place in the team, only to be failed miserably overseas .

We are giving chances to Khushdil in Australia and in home conditions guys like Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Shoaib and Hafeez are playing, regrettable by Misbah.

Fakar also bashed our trundlers. He too deserves a chance to make his case for WC.

Fakhar last 12 T20I scores are 14, 11, 24, 11, 4, 14, 17, 7, 6, 0, 0, 2.

That is horrendous. He can still come back into contention with a good PSL.

Our team has very inconvenient bad days. Or they just can't handle pressure.

A bit of both I guess plus bad luck, I have never seen Bumrah this wayward and that no ball only rubbed salt to the wound. Although I doubt they were in pressure right from the beginning, at least it didn't seem so with the body language during first 30 overs. We were very much in the game when Fakhar got out then Hafiz happened and we started to feel the heat.

Overall I agree we have been sucking big time during pressure games in big tournaments since 2014.

World class means high in world rankings. Literally.
He’s the only pak player in t20 all rounders top 20 alongside imad. You always need an off spinner in the team. as long as offies remain scarce in our junior cricket hafeez will always be in contention. He will get tested and cleared as he’s always marginal but the fact remains he brings enormous balance to the side.

Imo out of all the chokes the 2014 World T20 was your best opportunity to win an ICC trophy. Against a rather meh Sri Lanka team and Kohli was on fire . I don't know why Dhoni batted behind Yuvraj that day when it was clear Yuvraj was out of form. That.11(21) really ruined all of Kohlis hard work.

No one's saying Hafeez had the most amazing career but in the last couple of years Hafeez has changed his game. He used to always waste deliveries by playing those awful defensive shots and then would get out without having an impact on the score. However he has now focused himself on the shorter versions of the game coming down the order and playing aggressively which has been one of the reasons Pakistan has been so successful in T20s. We need people in lower middle order who can carry the game forward after Babar Azam in the top order. Currently, none of the youngsters in the middle order including Imad have been able to play that role for Pakistan successfully.

His changed game brought him an average of 31 in the World Cup 2019. He is mediocre and will remain so . Guaranteed if he plays in Australia he will average 20. That’s his ceiling .

These performances from Malik and Hafeez are going to haunt us at the World T20.

Hafeez 8 runs away from 2000 in t20

Hafeez is 8 runs away from 2000 , currently he has played 91 international t20 matches and currently have 1992 runs to his name. He should get those runs on Monday vs Bangladesh and once and if he does reach that feet he will be the second Pakistani batsman to do so

Poor Ben Dunk learning what Hafeez is about

There is very little chance that Hafeez doesn't go to the World Cup, but I am hoping to see him fail in every innings in the PSL. Might sound harsh, but he is guaranteed to perform terribly in Australia so why should we have to suffer because he wants a final tournament.

100 percent he will go to the world cup either him or malik or both

I guess one can live in hope. That Bangladesh series will come back to haunt us. Misbah will use that to justify their selection regardless of what happens after.

My admiration of Hafeez the batsman is quite well known on this forum , but I would go as far as saying Hafeez is the only Pakistani player who even if he failed in every single innings of the PSL he would still be the FIRST name on the team sheet for the T20 World Cup.. that is how highly he’s rated by the Pakistan team management and selectors , and many fans also.

Yes, unfortunately you are right. The thought that our number 3, 4 and 5 on Australian pitches will be Hafeez, Rizwan and Malik is frightening.

Ancient bloke. He should have scored 8000 ODI runs at least. Massive under achiever

Apart from being his usual arrogant self, it is true that Hafeez looks a different batsman when he plays his shots instead of trying to preserve his wicket.

I would play at him 5 and ask him to go after the bowling from ball one.

He could have added more value to the team by Batting at 5 and end up being one of the best power hitters down the order at 5 on all formats. Because he has all shots to play for but doesn’t play his shots when opening or top of the order. Definitely not a test opener.

His batting in tests at 5 would have yield more wins I reckon if he bats like Gilchrist or stokes

Same thing Sarfraz did and it is evident how successful it was for him in tests which also helped the team with wins and save from losses

His stubbornness is the cause for his under achievement. Being professor he should have known from the start that he could do better as no.4 or 5 where he has achieved great amount of success as a batsman. He was struggling to play the moving ball but good against spin and pace in the later part of the inns. He was too stubborn to admit that he is not a test opening batsman even after a number of shoot out embarrassments caused by Steyn. Egoistic to admit that he can’t open the inns against the new ball.

Right now in the last 2 years his records as a batman is very good and should definitely play the T20 WC

Part of the Zimbabwe series and quite possible he will do very well in it.

Looks confident - atleast vs Zimbabwe - dont think he is going anywhere!

Put up a 50 pship with Babar in 1st T20I

wonder how different his batting career would have been if he had played in the middle order all his career. Certainly wasnt the best against moving cherry.

Hafeez chacha is needed for the 2021 world t20.Although his stats are awful in world t20s but he should do fine this time around.

The difference is hafeez is batting at 4 were he doesnt have a confused brain and is playing in a positive manner with no pressure.he also knows that babar will bat throw 8/10 times

I think the difference is babar when you have someone who can bat throw he knows he can express himself

Hafeez and Babar will be our most important batsmen at the T20 WC. If Hafeez can carry this form into the T20 World Cup he will be a force to be reckoned with at No. 3, on those Indian pitches.

Hafeez has God gifted timing, for which in flow he is one of the best batsman to watch. But, age is not in his side - his next dip will be his last and PAK can only hope that it lasts till next T20 WC, roughly one more year; otherwise that batting lineup is completely hopeless once Babar is out.

Perhaps we need to think about drafting Haris Sohail?
With Imad Waseem and Shadab back we have enough firepower. Imagine this:
1. B Azam
2. F Zaman
3. H Ali
4. M Hafeez
5. H Sohail
6. S Khan
7. I Waseem
8. M Rizwan
9. W Riaz
10. S Afridi
11. H Rauf

I could be wrong but I haven't seen Hafeez perform exceptionally well in local tournaments, but somehow he has brought on some fine knocks in the later stages of his career. He has also never performed well in the PSL. It's quite the opposite with his contemporaries from his age group like Malik and Akmal. Somehow they always flatter to deceive and then on the big stage they choke.

its not that , hafeezs batting style was never of an opener. He would have served better as a middle order (number 5) batsman.

I think it's to do with the mindset azwell when oppening you got to construct and innings but keep the runs ticking when coming down the order you can play more attacking cricket

yah hafeez. has a gift of timing when heball isnt moving enough , he was a dot machine as an opener in first 10 overs. Babar is suitable for opening role as he is not a good finisher. His t20 record shows that. Babar and imam can make a very good opening pair in odis.

Incredible how people forget quickly. Hafeez is a failure of a batsman and his 3 fifties IN England against poor bowlers won't change anything.
Come the time of the world cup he will fail miserably again against good teams.

Not saying we have many better options, but Hafeez's batting isn't winnings you anything important.

Babar is improving his strike rate it was at 125+ in 2018 now it's at 135+ in 2020 with average of 50.no babar and imaam shouldn't bat oppening it should he haider preferably and imaam at babar at 3.

Well like it or not, Hafeez seems to be getting better in T20s!

50* (34) so far for LQ v PZ in Eliminator.

Hafeez seems to have rediscovered himself at the age of 40

One thing that worries me is come World Cup time I hope hafeez doesn't have the same issue that he had during the world in England where he looked decent during and innings and would find ways to get out to part timers

As strong as babar is as a player I believe hafeez wicket is the most important one he should try to not throw it out like he did Agaisnt part timers in that World Cup

If hafeez can avoid this during the t20 World Cup he can win you some important matches for sure than

"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

MKG

Professor has finally won over Pakistan fans!

Horrible slot selection today by Hafeez - really needs to do better than that with so much experience.

KARACHI: Veteran cricketer Mohammad Hafeez said he has got motivation for practicing power-hitting after watching West Indian players.

Speaking exclusively in ARY News show ‘Sports Room’, Hafeez said Caribbean players are so good at power-hitting just because of their practice.

“I have been asked a lot about my power-hitting and people said it came from playing Golf but I think golf was not the only thing I did to make myself strong in power-hitting,” he said.

“After World Cup 2019, I decided to play different leagues around the world. When I went to play Caribbean Premier League, I tried watching some of the West Indian players while practicing hard-hitting. From there, I realized that they were not good at it due to their muscles but their sheer practice for it,” he shared.

Hafeez said for the last couple of years, he worked really hard on his power-hitting ability and changed his techniques which helped him a lot to improve his performance. “I started practicing power-hitting a lot. And, it has helped me a lot to improve my performance,” he highlighted.

Hafeez was actually a middle order batsman but was wrongly played as an opener (Although Hafeez thinks that he is an opener, he always struggled against quality new ball pacers ). Since the opener's slot is always open in Pakistan there is far less competition for it and Pakistan has been using makeshift/ half decent openers regularly. He should have been tried as a finisher in Odi/T20s much earlier in his career than when it was finally done.

Hafeez always had the talent and he has finally figured out his batting method in the last 2 years.

He should play odi's too as we need him to stay till 2023.
No point in not making the most of a player who is fit to deliver after all the investment that has gone into him over the years.

Might have been an idea to play him in a few ODIs whilst he is in great form.

Might have been an idea to play him in a few ODIs whilst he is in great form.

That cycle will never end. If it has been decided that he is discarded from ODIs/won't last until the next World Cup, that should be the end of the matter.

What’s the point if he has no plans to play the 2023 WC and there’s no guarantee his purple patch will last till then. He’ll just end up blocking a spot for someone like Saud and then come the World Cup you’ll be the first one asking why no other middle order options weren’t developed.

Exactly i seen quite a few people who were vouching for his inclusion in the odi format which i didnt agree on

Excuse me. Hafeez is the GOAT. He will be playing the 2023 World Cup. Don't you dare question the king.

Anything is possible in Pakistan cricket.

Who knows he may carry on after the T20 World Cup.

Retirement is just a word when it comes to Pakistan cricket, it means nothing.

If a player is good enough, then age doesn't matter.

And in any case, it's hardly as if our selectors are showing that they have a long-term plan in any format.

This is just a classic case of people nit picking and will never be happy. If we carry on with Hafeez or Haris people will eventually complain that no new middle order players were developed. When we’re trying to give a deserving middle order bat like Saud a chance we’ve found another reason to complain.

With the average age of the ODI squad coming down significantly from the previous one, you can’t argue that Wasim isn’t trying to build a team for the 2023 WC.

Age is just a number, Mohammad Hafeez is perhaps the perfect illustration of this saying as the 40-year-old is still going strong. Hafeez who now features for Pakistan in T20 format only, has played no less than 106 T20Is, scoring 2388 runs at 27.13 with 14 half-centuries.

Pakistan team, currently preparing for a three-match T20I series against England that starts on Friday at the Trent Bridge Nottingham, will be banking on Hafeez to spearhead the batting top-order.

Hafeez has some fond memories of playing in England. His and Pakistan’s first T20I was against England, which Pakistan won by five wickets at Bristol on 28 August 2006.

Hafeez scored 46 off 40, which included five fours, he was also highest individual scorer for Pakistan in the match.

The seasoned campaigner had an instrumental role in helping Pakistan’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 victory as he played a crucial innings in the final against India at the Oval, London. His quickfire unbeaten 57 off 37, which included four fours and three sixes helped Pakistan to their match winning 338-run total.

In his first-ever ODI against England in 2003, Hafeez was declared player of the match for his 69 runs and one wicket which helped Pakistan beat hosts by two wickets.

The right-handed batsman has featured in 12 T20Is against England, scoring 289 at 28.90. He has two half-centuries to his name with a best of 86 not out.

When Pakistan last toured England in 2020, Hafeez in two T20Is scored 155 runs at a staggering average of 155 and striking the ball at 176.13. He scored half-century in each innings in the series which was levelled at 1-1.

Leading from the front as a senior player, Hafeez scored crucial runs in New Zealand last year. Despite Pakistan losing the series 2-1, Hafeez made a 140-run contribution at 70 with 99 not out his best score. He was second on the list amongst top run-getters in the series.

Since 1 January 2020 till date, Hafeez has featured in 17 T20Is, where he has scored 480 at 48 with a strike rate of 143.28. The team has around 65 per cent winning ratio in the 17 matches in which Hafeez has played.

While talking toPCB Mohammad Hafeez said: “I am happy to be back in England again as I have great memories of playing in this country. The T20I series against England will be a treat to watch for the fans and good display of skills and talent is expected from both sides.

“The series is crucial for us as it will help us understand where we are placed as a team for this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Good performance against a top ranked side will give players and team management great confidence going into the mega event.”

Talking about transferring his learnings to the young cricketers, Hafeez said, “As a senior player, I feel it is my duty to transfer my experience and knowledge to young players in the team which I have gained over the years. I want to leave a legacy, so when these young players become senior they too help the new ones of that time as I helped them.”

Pakistan is currently on fourth spot in the ICC rankings with 261 points while England are at the top with 278 points.

Hafeez bowling now more frequently - takes a wicket too!

An all rounder is more valuable for the team than a batsman. Hafeez 3.0 should be the first name on the sheet when the WT20 squad is announced. A player that can win you games with bat and ball, hopefully he finds his form with the bat again.

If he manages to keep his action in check, he's an invaluable asset with the ball. Remarkably effective against left-handers and can bowl with a miserly economy-rate on a consistent basis. How integral he can be with the ball will be especially evident when one or two of the front-line bowlers get smashed on the day.

Lahore: Veteran Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has been diagnosed with dengue fever, ARY Sports reported.

According to details, the 40-year-old missed matches of the National T20 Cup due to food poison and returned to Lahore from Rawalpindi.

After arriving in his home city, he underwent all his tests in which he was diagnosed with dengue fever.

https://arysports.tv/mohammad-hafeez-diagnosed-with-dengue-fever/

Feel bad for professor. He was forced to return to pakistan for no reason and now the guy has become unwell

Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez was on Wednesday ruled out of the ongoing National T20 Championship after contracting dengue. He is also doubtful for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Hafeez, who will turn 41 next month, is now under treatment at his home in Lahore and it remains to be seen if he will gain fitness in time for the mega ICC event, starting October 17.

"It depends on the severity of the dengue virus that one has contracted but yes it is an illness that leaves one pretty weak and it takes around a month to regenerate platelets and make a full recovery," a local doctor said.

A reliable source in the Pakistan Cricket Board said that the medical panel of the board was in touch with Hafeez and keeping a close watch on his treatment and recovery. The Pakistan World Cup squad is expected to leave around October 14.

Initially, Hafeez had complained of food poisoning when he was staying at the team hotel in Rawalpindi for the first leg of the National championship but when his condition didn’t improve he went to Lahore where he was diagnosed to have contracted dengue.

Hafeez is one of Pakistan’s senior players after Shoaib Malik having appeared in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs and 113 T20 internationals. He has not been in great form of late bu the heap of runs he scored in late 2019 and 2020 in T20Is made him an automatic choice for the World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has set October 10 as the deadline for the World Cup participating nations to make changes in their squads announced earlier this month.

Teams are also allowed to have travelling reserves at their own expenses as the ICC is footing the bill for only 15 players and eight officials for each team.

Hafeez recently was in disagreement with the PCB after he was asked to prematurely terminate his contract with the Guyana franchise and return home early from the Caribbean Premier League.

The former captain was not amused with the situation as he was given a deadline until September 12 to return to Lahore or risk being dropped for the World Cup.
