"I was dropped for three months and told to improve my fielding before returning" : Aamir Sohail

Aamir Sohail speaking on TV about Pakistan's fielding in the 4th ODI:

"When I made my debut, I dropped a catch against India in a final at Sharjah though we were easily winning."

"After that, we had a series against West Indies where I did a misfield and conceded a couple of runs."

"I was dropped for three months and told to improve my fielding before returning. Javed bhai helped me with that, teaching me how to position myself, etc. After a lot of work and effort, I was able to improve and return."

"Here there is no accountability. Players won't be held accountable until those in the board are also accountable for what they do. Until that happens, there won't be improvement."

I'm also, like Amir Sohail, extremely upset :69:due to lack of accountability in PCB. Chairman, selector, test captain and some players getting away with murder.

forget PCB, fans would go nuts.

SHarjeel dropped catches that day, and he ended up performing with bat. What matters more to fans it sixes and fours from the bat not the fielding, so if we drop sharjeel, will the fans accept the decision?

Pakistan have always dropped catches on a regular basis, but some of the current lot are beyond awful even by Pakistani standards.

Nothing will change in the short term regarding Pakistani fielding, it is what it is and will take decades to change. The difference is in Aamir's days there were multiple individuals with incredible talent to negate this shortfall. Conversely the current team has no talent. Fielding isn't really the issue here.

I am sure during PAK matches, particularly during fielding, PCB Chairman takes his day nap under his tinted glasses - keeping his face towards TV. Also, he uses some fluid so that the sound of snoring isn't heard.

Otherwise, in 2017, no Chairman can sleep after those nightmares without having a chat with few people - this is almost war time radio silence from the guy who has a knack of 2 press briefs per day.

In My opinion it's captain fault to put someone like Sharjeel in point or Hassan Ali on Mid-on in first place.. know your Fielders first.

Hasan ali looked to be a fine fielder prior to this match.

ICC introduces demerit points could we have here in PCB. Attach demerit points to their match fee and monthly fee and let the player think for betterment.

Should introduce financial bonuses for the best fielders in domestic, improve state of outfields and increase intensity of fielding drills in domestic cricket.

And at the international level, financial penalties for those who drop catches (e.g 1 drop = £200 penalty) . Wow, I have surprised myself! didn't expect to resolve our fielding issues so swiftly

Fielding drills start at junior level. The ground needs to be grassy and even so the fielders learn to attack the ball confidently and learn to dive without causing injuries. But I'm not sure if the ground conditions are like that. Until then you can only make superficial improvements in fielders skills.

Another retired making thing look "perfect" in old days.
We still remember 90s team fielding. No one has forgot that and none of players improved.
Just look at Moin khan, how terrible he was as keeper but he kept on playing.

The time period Aamir Sohail is talking, was his initial stage of his career( first 5 matches). And when he came back into team, he was playing WC after just missing SL series I believe.
