Shahid Afridi speaking to reporters:

"The next PSL may be my last PSL and if I get the permission from Multan Sultans to leave then it is my wish that if Quetta Gladiators owners allow it, I would like to play my last season with Quetta"

"All cricket I have been playing so far is because of the support of my fans who wish to watch me play on their TV screens and that is a big motivation for me"

"Cricket is a great game and I am still passionate about it and I do play cricket in leagues and I can tolerate 1-2 days of a bio-bubble if I have to; I am playing cricket for my fans and for SAF"

"I have been talking to Shaheen Shah Afridi who was visiting me at home and I feel that living in hotels for 3 months or so in a strict bio-bubble environment is a tall order"

It will be interesting to see what Afridi does after his playing days arr over.

I'm not sure he really wants to get into coaching.

Still the biggest name and brand in Pak cricket even more than 5 years after his retirement.

I'm not sure he really wants to get into coaching.

He doesn't have the mentality and patience to be a good coach. Players can consult him for general advice, particularly spinners, but I doubt he would be of massive help to them.

A person like Shahid Afridi who gets all the spotlight wherever he goes will have just one ambition, which would be in politics.

I don't see him retiring in peace, and I don't think he would want to coach either because it requires going to places that are unseen where media attention is minimal.

He might go down the road of Darren Sammy and become part of a PSL team's management.

Afridi as Coach would not work - wont be able to guide anyone to think like him.

Star all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi will play the next and his last edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Quetta Gladiators (QG), the franchise confirmed on Tuesday.

While addressing a press conference in Karachi, Gladiators owner Nadeem Omar told reporters that the former Pakistan captain will represent his franchise in PSL 7.

There had been rumours that Afridi may play his last edition of PSL for Quetta Gladiators since he made a statement earlier in June, expressing the desire to play for the franchise before hanging up his boots at PSL.

“If the franchise [Multan Sultans] releases me, I will prefer to represent the Quetta Gladiators in my last season,” Afridi had said in an earlier interview.

Quetta Gladiators manager Azam Khan also confirmed the development to Business Recorder. He said that Sarfaraz Ahmed will continue to lead the franchise.

Pakistan to host ICC Champions Trophy 2025, will defend title at home

Afridi, who was part of the Galle Gladiators squad in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) last year, will miss this year’s edition due to personal reasons, Azam added. Galle Gladiators is the sister franchise of QG, owned by Nadeem Omar and managed by Azam Khan.

Meanwhile, Galle Gladiators will also play without their regular head coach Moin Khan this season. Former Pakistan bowler Umar Gul will replace him as the head coach in LPL 2021, to be played between December 5 and December 23, he confirmed.

Azam Khan said Gul has been appointed on an interim basis, as Moin is unavailable due to his son’s marriage.

Afridi has previously represented Peshawar Zalmi, which won the PSL title in 2017, Karachi Kings, and Multan Sultans in the past six years.

The star cricketer had missed out on the last edition of the PSL due to a back injury. Multan Sultans, nonetheless, went on to win their maiden title under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan.

Greed has no limit, look at your age ( the real one ) Mr Afridi, and your ambitions . You should have left cricket years ago.

Shahid Afridi has told PakPassion.net that his stint with Quetta Gladiators is not confirmed - yet!

There are players who want to play cricket and enjoy even after cross 45+ age mark. And also there are few who give retirement at the age of 27/28 due to work load and time management.

Both are called greedy, which is harsh.

Only in Pakistan that you consistently have 40+ yr olds still clinging onto spots

Knowing boom boom he might extend and play for 3 more years. Its in our culture to prolong the careers.

O please retire you were mediocre in the last couple of psls & your attention seeking days are over, don’t rob a young leggie of a spot & .. maaf kar yaar..

Shahid Afridi has been demoted from Platinum to the Diamond category for the upcoming draft.

He has every right to carry on playing, this is franchise cricket, he has retired from international cricket/ domestic cricket. If a franchise wants to pick him how is he robbing a youngster chances?

At this age he is more of a cricketing liability than asset, and only taking another youngster's place. If he gets picked it's purely a branding/sentimental decision.

I'm not sure he really wants to get into coaching.

I get the impression that he sees himself as a politician. He wants to be the next Imran!
