IAF recommends Wing Commander Abhinandan’s name for Vir Chakra medal for 'shooting down an F-16'

The India Air Force is recommending Wg Cdr Abhinandan Varthaman for the wartime gallantry medal Vir Chakra for shooting down an F-16 in aerial conflict with Pakistan.

While Abhinandan has been recommended for the Vir Chakra, the 12 Mirage 2000 pilots who bombed targets in Pakistan are being recommended for the Vayu Sena Medal for gallantry for their acts of bravery, government sources said.

The Vir Chakra is the third highest gallantry award in the military during the times of war after the Param Vir Chakra and the Mahavir Chakra.

In the meanwhile, amid concerns over Abhinandan’s security, the Air Force has posted out the ace fighter pilot from Srinagar to another important air base in the western sector along the Pakistan border.

“The posting order of the officer has been issued and he would soon be moving out of the Srinagar air base to his new place of posting,” government sources told ANI.

The new posting (name of the airbase being withheld due to security reasons) is also a fighter base and if the officer is cleared for flying, he would be able to continue his flying duties, the sources added.

Wg Cdr Abhinandan has the unique distinction of being the only pilot in the world to have shot down an F-16 combat aircraft from his vintage MiG-21 Bison aircraft on February 27 during aerial conflict with Pakistan.

There were concerns over his security in Srinagar due to the presence of Pakistan-backed terrorist groups including a large number of Pakistani jihadis in the Kashmir valley.

Pakistan has been very upset over the shooting down of its Block 52 F-16 fitted with AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles with superior strike ranges than the R-73 missile on the MiG-21 which was used by Wg Cdr Abhinandan during the aerial fight.

Despite its best attempts to cover up the shooting down of its F-16, the Air Force released radar images and other proofs that showed that the American-built plane was indeed taken out by the Indian pilot.

Earlier this week, Wg Cdr Abhinandan underwent medical tests at a Delhi-based facility for becoming eligible to fly the MiG-21s again.

Abhinandan has flown different types of fighter aircraft in the Air Force including the mighty Su-30MKI.

Lol fake awards for something that never happened.

Modi government trying to give legitimacy to the botched operation lol

Imagine, you fail all the way and still get a national Award... unbelievable

Even the most oppressive countries dont hand out awards for fake military 'victories', let alone a 'democratic' country.
koi izzat hoti hei

These are like Bollywood awards. Everyone is getting them! They should give Abhinandan an award for getting his face battered red by Pakistanis!

I find it funny that how both nations have no idea what actually happened, yet the people from both sides of the border enjoy the news that was told to us by the media.

Only Pakistani and Indian armed forces know the truth, while we rely upon our preferred media outlets and believe what we all want to believe.

Lets see if his honor and self-respect will allow him to accept this award

Well deserved if he gets it.

If he has any dignity, or the IAF in that matter, he wont accept it

The Indian armed forces have always acted with great dignity. Some instances include treating over 90000 POWs after 1971 with great respect, or recommending Karnal Sher Khan for the Nishan-e-Haider even when Pakistan refused to take back bodies after Kargil.

After news like this It is so hard to fight against believing that entire nation could be that gullible or dumber.

All a political stunt, I bet Imran and Modi are speaking behind closed doors and talking about how everything has gone according to plan and praise each other on a good team work effort...

Well deserved if he gets it.

This isnt like the past anymore, the BJP spouts and the media gobbles up. The forces should always remain independant.

So who gets the participation medal for bringing down the helicopter

Award for what? Is it for entering in enemy's territorry and drinking tea?

Aajkal dushman ke ghar mein ghus ke chai ki chuski leke wapas apne ghar aane ka award bhi milne laga? :inti

I want to laugh. Please Join Me

Indian Prime Minister Modi:

When Abhinandan was captured by Pakistan, I said (to Pakistan) that if anything happens to our pilot then we will not leave you.

Bass kar paglay aur kitna hansaaye ga :misbah

Thank God he didn't say this about Kalbushan warna usko bhi chorna padh jaata :srt

On a serious note, if this guy is still elected as PM of India, then GOD Bless them all.

If you have to lie, you better take it all the way and take it to a level where it eventually becomes the truth.

The Indian government dug themselves into a hole by lying about downing the F-16.

Perhaps they can be forgiven because it was in the heat of the moment, but they should have stopped talking about it in a couple of days and their lie would have fizzled out and people would have forgotten about it.

It is a bit like how we initially claimed that we have two Indian pilots but swiftly changed our statement to avoid embarrassment.

Unfortunately, India made it worse for themselves by persisting with their lie, and it eventually reached a stage where it became a point of no return.

They cannot back-track now, and neither do they have a shred of evidence, so the only solution for them to end this embarrassment is to provide a closure, and nominating Abhinandan for the Vir Chakra is their way of ending this storyline.

I am certain if this goes through, the Indian media will be instructed to not mention the F-16 ever again, although I am sure we will continue to nag them in the near and distant future.
