Wanted to post my predictions for CT 2025

1) Pakistan vs New Zealand: Pakistan wins

2) India vs Bangladesh: India wins

3) Afg Vs SA: Sa wins

4) Aus vs Eng: Aus wins (but could go either way, Heavily depends on Travis + Bowling)

5) Pakistan vs India: India wins, don't think PK can beat India in uae

6) Bang vs NZ: NZ wins

7) Australia vs South Africa: Aus wins (Assuming the same SA shows up vs Pakistan)

8) Afg vs England: Eng wins, I think Afghanistan's reign of terror for 2023 and 2024 is over, don't think they'll bother teams this time around

9) Pakistan vs Bang: Pakistan wins

10) Afg vs Australia: Australia wins, Don't see Afg causing an upset this time around

11) england vs South Africa: England wins

12) Nz vs India: Nz wins

Semi final

1) Australia vs New Zealand: Australia demolishes

2) India vs England: India wins

Final

1) Australia vs India: Australia wins and crowned champions.

Rooting for the men down under

After getting out of their group, Pakistan will demolish Australia in the semi-final thanks to a Babar Hundred and Rizwan’s launching; can’t wait, I am ready.

Then in the final it will be a repeat of CT 17; if Fakhar Zaman has been selected iA, both he & Saim will turn Bumrah into a baby bowler :razzaq

Am sorry, but after Rizwan defeated Australia in Australia, I can’t see how Pat Cummins men will get past the men in green. Rizwan has turned the tables, we now hold the psychological edge over Australia.
So sorry bro, I should have known.

Jokes aside, ct will be a different ball game. Australia didn't take odi that seriously vs Pakistan. Its clear they were focusing on test vs India and just wanted to rest.

Again it was a memorable victory against australia however I'm pretty sure even Zimbabwe could have beaten that aus side given the way they were playing and weren't even taking catches properly.

2025 will be a different ball game altogether.

Pak vs Ind will be cracking, that too ODI match. Usually as neutral, I generally favor Ind past. However, with regime change and all back home, this time rooting for Pakistan except against BD game of course.

BD badly need a Harry Brook type of batsman to take their game to next level.

Rajdeep's take on this is as follows:

Group A

India Vs BD -> India (trashing)
India Vs NZ -> India (trashing)
India Vs Pak -> India (trashing)
Pak Vs NZ -> Pak (Barely)
Nz vs BD -> BD (Barely)

Aus Vs Afg -> Aus (barely)
Aus Vs SA -> SA (Decent trashing)

What was the result of last 5 ODI matches between Ind & Pak?

On what basis you think it will be cracking contest?

Arei yaar, let ne have one thread without some Indian nonsense.

Your predictions don't even make any sense 🤣🤣. This isnt 2023 anymore nor is it home den.

Teams are on a decline. Infact I think every team participating in 2025 ct is weaker then their 2019 wc counterparts excluding Afghanistan.

Pakistan is stronger. Generational Ayub, matchwinner Fakhar and then you have the bedrock of the lineup that is Rizwan + Agha. Then you have Shaheen + Naseem.

I agree that other teams look weaker than they were 2 years ago.

2019 pak

1) Fakhar (More inconsistent then saim, but way more impactful when on song, I love saim and I'm very happy that he's the perfect fakhar replacement however he doesn't match fakhar when fakhar is onsong. But yes excluding fakhar's one hit wonders, Saim is > in odi)

2) Imam (for all his faults, Abdullah shafique isn't fit to kiss his shoes)

3) Babar ( his 2019 self is more inform then 2024 self(

4) Hafeez (way better then rizwan post his resurgence + can bowl and is a solid bowler to)

5) Haris sohail (Classy batter)

6) Malik (a bit of spent force in 2019 tbf, his prime is > agha but agha probs > his 2019 version)

7) Imad (he's still pakistan's best odi no 7)

8) Sarfaraz (kinda useless but because he batted at 8, and would shuffle himself, it strengthen the tail)

9) hasan ali (Solid bowler in 2019, good tailender too, better then shaheen at slogging)

10) wahab (better then rauf, but is a run machine, can bat too)

11) Shaheen (Prime in 2019, followed by the fact that he batted at no 11)

2024 pk

1) Abdullah (🤣🤣🤣)
2) Saim (pretty much carried the odi lineup)
3) Babar (more inform then his 2023 self, not upto his 2019 mark atm)
4) Rizwan (What an insult to hafeez/ Haris sohail)
5) Kamran ghulam (not bad, but not as good as haris plus haris could bowl, saud shakeel would make a better no 4 and a better replacement to haris)
6) Agha (He isn't anywhere close to malik as a cricketer but yes he is > malik 2019)
7) Niazi/ Tayyab (if its niazi, then lol, if it's tayyab, he's batting too low to be effective, not a no 7)
8) Shaheen (lol at shaheen at 8)
9) Naseem (has gained weight and is a run machine now, decent no 9 batter though, shpuld bat at 8)
10) Rauf (Useless unless he's in aus)
11) Abrar (tbf hasn't been bad in odi, but extends the tail)

2024 pak has a very very long tail, followed by a 90's lineup in Babar, Abdullah, Rizwan, kamran, Agha.

Saim ayub masked the difference in the series cause he's in the form of his odi life atm.

What will happen if Pakistan fails? Playing with Abdullah is the same as shan masood in test, basically playing with 10 players

Matchwinner fakhar? Kidhar? From the bench? Atm all I see is Abdullah batting in fakhar's place.

Is it a troll you think pak got a chance in ct?

Is it a troll you think pak got a chance in ct?
They have a chance, Infact i would say their chances are higher then 2017 because the games are held in conditons Pakistan is accustomed to like uae and Pakistan.

To top it off other sides are weaker now excluding Afghanistan who probs won't make it to semi's to begin with

And lastly our group is easier, NZ × Bangladesh + India are easier then sri lanka, South Africa and India (Talking about 2017)

However it'll still be difficult. If Australia makes it through to knockouts then it'll be a nightmare for pakistan. Australia is a different beast when it comes to knockouts.

Only India and England has successful shown to eliminate aus in crucial moments. Sa, NZ, Pakistan have a horrible track record against aus in crucial stages

@mominsaigol @Rana @Devadwal My prediction is that England and India will have a rollercoaster ride, while Australia and New Zealand will perform exceptionally well. Pakistan and Afghanistan, on the other hand, could produce some surprising moments.
Pakistan isn't bad for ct tbh.

Fakhar needs to replace Abdullah, Saud needs to be in the squad.

The main issues are pacers, but opening + no 3 is settled. No 5/6 with agha is good

No 4, and no 7 are 100% issues though. They unbalance the side.

And the pacers aren't that good. Spinners are needed.

But our side is a bit more settled this time around compared to 2023 wc and 2024 wc which was a mess

in order to have any chance Pakistan need to play this XI

Fakhar , Saim , Babar , Rizwan , kamran , Agha , Saud , shaheen , Naseem , Rauf , Abrar.

Imam: statpadder against minnows and garbage player under pressure.
Malik: completely useless outside Asia.
Haris Sohail: too many fitness issues to capitalize on the talent.
Sarfaraz: zero power game and always hid himself in the batting line-up.
Imad: good AR to have in the team but he simply was not a wicket taker.
Wahab: remarkably inconsistent. all pace, no brains. one great spell of reverse-swing after 5 matches where he goes at 7+ RPO.
Hasan Ali: had become useless by 2019. Look up his 2019 WC numbers.
Shaheen: he was good, but was still finding his place. he only became great by 2021/22.

Current PAK ODI team is significantly better than the 2019 team.

Also, Sarfraz didn't bat at 8. They had Shadab in the line-up at 7/8. One of Malik or Haris made the playing eleven.

People are thinking Sajid Khan will be the right option for spin but PCB seems to be considering docile choices like Shadab Khan or Mohammad Nawaz. But I’m worried they aren’t the right options. We need to stick with Sufyan Muqeem. And Fakhar is definitely coming back. Fakhar and Saim will be our openers.

Shaheen is showing good signs with improved control over line and length and his pace has slightly increased as well. But some people might not agree with me. I also want to see Mohammad Abbas in the squad for the Lahore matches as the moisture there will assist his bowling.

Feel bad for Srilanka and West Indies, both teams are better than Bangaldesh ODI team at the moment. Srilanka beat India 3-0, Windies beat BD 3-0. BD doesn't deserve to play here.

Imam is > Abdullah who's a passenger, his 2019 self is massively > Any era Abdullah.

Malik I already agreed with

Haris sohail didn't have any fitness issues in 2019. We are talking about 2019 only. His scoring at an aggressive pace is what helped pakistan beat NZ. Babar only anchored. HS was needed equally in that partnership.

ODI no longer have the same merit it used to. I mean they hardly play ODIs these days besides during WC years. Also, T20 series are quite meaningless. That is why I believe a combine format something like T30 need to take form.

Well Abdullah wouldn't be playing. Fakhar would take his place.

For some reason i back England to win this tournament. Let us see.
Aus will take it. Just like they take everything.

It's a repeat of 2023 where both wtc and wc belong to aus

Here both wtc and ct will belong to them.

T20 is the one format they haven't figured out as 2021 was a bit of a fluke relying on one hit match wonders for aus to win except the final where NZ just bent down.

Otherwise they've been bang avg in t20 tournaments. Odi + test, their kings.

From an Indian fan: Pak is looking stronger under new found leadership of Rizwan. saeem ayub is playing great. Babazr/rizwan/Agha provide stability. Trio of naseem shah/afridi/haris and the leggie . Formiddable side. Gautham gambhir is greg chappel 2.0. Pak's main hurdle is australia in knock outs. If they go past, there is a great chance for them against India. One major advantage for India may be bumrah

Australia are not winning this.

Yes they are. Aus is always a favourite. It's my fav and will be yours today if you choose to love 🫠

Lil bro, I called them favourites even in 2021 etc when no one gave them a chance .

But this time, they just don't have the players.

With bumrah Likely to be out of champion trophy , india is not going to reach in semifinal let alone win the champion trophy .

:kp

India, England and Australia don't look particularly good.

Pakistan (with a fit Saim) and maybe full strength NZ look like better ODI outfits and have higher chances of winning to me.

ECB responds to calls for Afghanistan fixture boycott

The England and Wales Cricket Board has called for a unified response to action against Afghanistan amid calls for the England men's team to boycott next month's Champions Trophy match between the sides.

England are due to face Afghanistan in Lahore on 26 February, but UK politicians want the team to refuse to play the 50-over match and take a stand against the Taliban regime's assault on women's rights.

A letter to the ECB, written by Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi, and signed by the likes of Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, and former Labour leaders Jeremy Corbyn and Lord Kinnock, urged England to boycott the match to "send a clear signal" that "such grotesque abuses will not be tolerated".

Women's participation in sport has effectively been outlawed since the Taliban's return to power in 2021 and many of Afghanistan's female players left the country for their own safety.

International Cricket Council (ICC) regulations state full membership is conditional upon having women's cricket teams and pathway structures in place.

However, Afghanistan's men's team have been allowed to participate in ICC tournaments seemingly without any sanctions.

In response to the letter signed by group of more than 160 politicians calling for a boycott, ECB chief executive Richard Gould said the governing body "is committed to finding a solution" which "upholds the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan".

"While there has not been a consensus on further international action within the ICC, the ECB will continue to actively advocate for such measures," he said.

"A coordinated, ICC-wide approach would be significantly more impactful than unilateral actions by individual members."

Gould said that the ECB will continue its policy of not scheduling bilateral matches against Afghanistan but did not commit either way to a boycott.

He added that the ECB will engage with the UK government, other international boards and the ICC to "explore all possible avenues for meaningful change" but acknowledged there were "diverse perspectives" on the issue.

"We understand the concerns raised by those who believe that a boycott of men's cricket could inadvertently support the Taliban's efforts to suppress freedoms and isolate Afghan society," Gould added.

"It's crucial to recognise the importance of cricket as a source of hope and positivity for many Afghans, including those displaced from the country."

The Afghanistan women's team was created in 2010, nine years after the Taliban regime fell at the hands of a US-led military coalition.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) initially barred the women's team from playing at several international tournaments, saying it received "Taliban threats".

Twenty-five female cricketers were handed contracts by the ACB in 2020. Less than a year later the Taliban returned to power, ending any progress towards Afghanistan playing an official women's international.

More than 20 Afghan women's cricketers managed to leave the country and are currently living in Australia.

England have played Afghanistan three times in one-day internationals and T20 internationals - all at ICC events - and lost their most recent meeting at the 2023 50-over World Cup.

Pakistan and neutral venue Dubai will host the eight-team Champions Trophy from 19 February to 9 March. Australia and South Africa join England and Afghanistan in Group B, while Pakistan, India, New Zealand and Bangladesh meet in Group A.

Here’s what Kevin Pietersen has to say about it
