I like odi way more then t20 cricket. T20 for me is just an entertainment house. And t20 wc had lost relevance for me when it's been played 3x in 4 years lol.

2021 2022 and 2024
No T20 WC was held from 2017 to 2020 (both years inclusive). That was a huge gap of almost 5 yrs. To make it up, 2021 & 2022 were held (Yes it got closer, but there was no other way).

Priority must be to play for your team, not to increase your numbers. That is the only way u can get back on a winning track.

1. ODI world cup
2. World T20
3. Winning a game against India whether its an ICC tournament, series, hong kong t20, oldies league, warm up match, bling cricket, disable cricket, mohalla league where one shokha larka decides to be team india.

No CT because the captain that won it is the captain you hate?

Me as an Indian fan:-

1. Olympics - the value of a medal in olympics surpassed that of world cups for me. It is a multi event sport and a gold can absolutely boost the ranking of a nation in a table and create legacy. Even if it is T20, the olympics will be the prime event for me

2. Home series **losses** against teams - What i mean here is that i dont care if we win home series vs top nations. However, I absolutely do care if we lose a series. We have not lost a series since England 2011. The day we would lose is the day I might quit cricket.

3. Away series win in SA - the only one we didn't get yet

4. Odi World Cup - Pinnacle of ICC tournaments. Nothing much to explain

5. Away series win in England - It has been a while since we won in England and while we did retain the trophy, an absolute series victory is definitely more satisfying.

6.Wt20 - T20 world cup, happens 2 years but is definitely more entertaining to watch ( I know this is blasphemy but tell me, can you ever top Afg vs Bang of this year's wt20)

7. WTC - its flawed but I would definitely love to have it in the cabinet of our team. Wish ICC structures it better

8. Away series win in Aus - have won the last two, wouldn't mind losing this one.

9. CT - kinda useless since there is an odi world cup. Vanity trophy

10. Asia cup odi/t20i - cabinet filling trophies

11. Bilaterals - jamodis and jamt20s, useless

1. ODI World Cup - Powerball
2) WTC - Mega Millions
3) World T20 - Cash4Life
4) CT - Classic Lotto
5) Away Test series win. Scratch Off
6) Rest.
For best results, I think you should focus on the “Rest” as that’s what you will get.

From an English (well, my) perspective:
1. Test series against Australia
2. Test series against India
3. Test series against anyone else

Beyond that, not terribly bothered.

Background - I was having a discussion with @Mamoon in another thread where he thinks everyone including Rohit Sharma himself would take world cup 2023 over 2 test series wins in Australia. So that is the background and preamble of this thread.

Summary
Beating Australia in their own backyard is one of the toughest challenges in world cricket. India achieved this rare feat twice, securing historic Test series victories in 2018–19 and again in 2020–21. These triumphs not only cemented India’s rise as a dominant force in Test cricket but also showcased the team’s depth, character, and resilience.

In contrast, the 2023 ODI World Cup presented a different kind of story. India dominated the tournament from start to finish, only to suffer a heartbreaking defeat in the final — and that too on home soil. Given the global prestige of the ODI World Cup, often considered the biggest prize in cricket, the loss felt even more painful. India’s last World Cup win came in 2011, also at home, which made expectations sky-high for a repeat in 2023.

Unlike Test series, World Cups attract a broader, more diverse audience. Even casual fans are deeply emotionally invested in them. Yet, for many cricket purists, India’s win at the Gabba in 2021 remains a once-in-a-generation story — a symbol of grit and determination against all odds.

Question
So, if fans were given a choice, would they trade those two iconic Test series wins in Australia for the elusive 2023 World Cup trophy?

The ODI World Cup is the biggest prize for all subcontinent teams and it was also the biggest prize for England until 2019. You could tell how desperate they were to win it.

The emotions and euphoria of winning a World Cup cannot be matched by a Test series win, no matter how big. The pain that we saw in Rohit’s eyes is something you will never see in any player’s eyes after losing a Test series.

He and pretty much every Indian player would swap the BGT with the World Cup. The other way of looking at it is will Tendulkar swap the 2011 World Cup with a BGT? Absolutely not.

The ODI format is slowly losing relevance compared to T20Is, but the ODI World Cup is still a far bigger prize than the T20 World Cup because of the legacy of the competition.

Yes, I would gladly trade those series wins for a ODI World Cup victory. It's not like they were against the GOAT Australian sides anyway. But the thing is, that World Cup win should have come in Australia. :kp :inti

Even in Australia, it is seen as the biggest prize in cricket. Only exception is if some of the old timers prefer test cricket solely, then, they would see Ashes as the biggest prize.

However, there is a strong case of prioritizing major Test series over the WTC. The WTC seems like a forced competition. It lacks the tournament feel.

Whilst it is the most prestigious format by far, its relevance compared to the white ball World Cups is very questionable, and you would also probably take a Test series win in Australia, India and England over a WTC victory.

Absolutely not.

Every BGT win in Australia is as valuable as an ODI World Cup.

Don’t let anyone fool you into believing something else.

Remind me again how many test series have Pakistan or Sri Lanka ever won in Australia? Actually remind me again when did the last time Pakistan or Sri Lanka ever even won a test match in Australia?

A World Cup win made the career of a bang average cricketer like Dhoni and gave him a biopic. Test series wins don’t do that to players.

If the hypothetical question is
Is a home WC win bigger than an away bilateral Aus test series victory, then answer is always Yes.

But how the question is framed makes a big difference.

No, Indian fans and players would not trade realized successes and achievements in Aus for WC win. Every campaign has its own destiny and if it was meant to be it would have been so.

No.

WC 23 was a big disappointment but I am not swapping any BGT victory in Aus for it.

We are already the second best team in Odi history.

It was also funny how India went over the top with their T20 World Cup celebrations as if it will make the world forget about their beautiful choke in 2023 after controlling, manipulating and influencing every aspect of the tournament.

They hosted a ceremony at Wankhede and invited the PM too. No country has ever done that after winning a T20 World Cup including Pakistan.

I wont, that victory was the first away BGT for us, also our bowling trioka performance in that BGT is one of the best memory.
'Gabba ka ghamand' test win with a bowling attack of 2 test old Siraj, rookie T.Natarajan, rookie Sundar and Shardul Thakur has to be the biggest story in last 30 years of cricket. This after the timeless draw in Sydney was lifetime efforts.

World cup 2023 final was surely heartbreaking as well but even if we would have won, many would have questioned that we only won at home in doctored pitches where everything was stacked against Aussies.

For me the winner is clear and its BGT by far. However, it is always good to get others perspective.

Mamoon bhai I agree with you, but the celebrations were more because of victory in ICC tournament after 11 years. And also a farewell tribute to legends Rohit & Kohli. The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 win was the icing on the cake.

ODI World Cup victory is bigger obviously but test series wins in Australia & India are also rare.

If only the final was not held at that panauti stadium, we would have been 3 time ODI WC winners.

Test series win in Australia > ICC World Cup > ICC T20 World

Call me old fashioned but beating Australia in Australia is the biggest thing in world cricket. Earlier it used to be beating West Indies in West Indies. Still remembered the hype around Frank Worrel series in 1995 when Australia finally beat West Indies in West Indies

2021 BGT win for me the biggest win of India's cricketing history

As kid II never believed India can ever beat Australia in Australia. Came very close in 2003-04 but fell short on last day

2021 was literally the stuff of dreams. ( 2018-19 was a fluke due to weakened Australia side - so don't consider it )

India didn't ask Smith & Warner to use sandpaper against South Africa. If 2018-19 is a fluke, Australia's victory in India 2004 is also fluke with Sachin Tendulkar missing first two test matches & when he came back, India won one & lost one in the remaining two test matches.

Australia has won in India only once since 1969, India have won twice in Australia.
