ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: England (364/9) beat Bangladesh (227 all out) by 137 runs

Could see some records being broken at this rate..

Malan 200
Root 100

Harry Brook and Buttler going crazy from ball one.

Great innings, but with a match setup like this Brook, Bulter, Livinstone have the greenlight to go wild. should make for some good watching

These high scoring matches, thanks to uncompetitive unsporting pitches prepared by the hosts and the ICC, are a total disgrace and take the excitement out of the World Cup. Teams scoring 400 plus runs for fun. Disgraceful!

This is more like a 320 pitch. Bangladesh hasn't really bowled that well tbh.

Stop crying. Let Bangladesh score even 300 here then we will talk.

Buttler scored a quick-fire 20 on 10 balls and he is gone now as well. After 40 overs, England is 293/3.

Bangla fighting here but too little too late. Minimum 350 for England

England is 323/5 after 44 overs. How much will they score in the last 6 overs?

Brook is gone for 20. England is six down now. Crumbling under pressure

How funny would it be if Bangladesh chase this with a master class from Shakib

England has lost the plot here. They were cruising towards 367-370 but they might end up getting bowled out for less than 350

400 was on the cards with 10 overs to go
combination of good death bowling and england going too hard
sure accelerate if you want but you've still got to have respect for a good delivery

Another one bites the dust. Adil Rashid is gone. England is 352/8 with 9 balls remaining.

Good bowling from Bangladesh, but England's lower order has been pretty poor.

England made a mistake in ignoring Ben Duckett, he is a good player of spin and would've been perfect for this world cup at no.4 with Stokes at no.5.

Liam Dawson is another player who would've been ideal, good lower order batsman and solid left arm spinner.

England have scored 364 for 9 after their 50 overs.
Will Bangladesh be able to chase it down?

30-40 runs too much. BD should try get close to target and lose less NNR it comes to that at the end of the matches played by all teams.

Flat pitch with Small boundaries is the worse thing for BD because any decent opposition will score big but BD batsmen will find ways to get out no matter how small the boundaries and how good the wicket is. Just don’t have the batting to chase 320 let alone 365!

I hope Bangladesh go out fighting! They could give this total a good go, England bowling looks weak.

Bangladesh pace bowlers been all over the place. Decent bowling would have least restricted England for less than 330! Why they didn’t go for swinging bowler in Tanzim Shakib instead of Fizz or someone else. Maybe should of thought about another SLA in Nasum Ahmed instead of a pacer since England have lots of right handers.

Mahedi Hasan did well in the end, who should have bowled more, he is more crafty offie than Miraz who is more orthodox. Taskin didn’t bowl his full overs. Shakib just had a poor day at captaincy.

Liton Das has not scored any big runs against any top 5 teams for years in ODI’s. Am guessing he will fail today once again, the minnow basher.

364 might be a tough one for Bengal Tigers to chase. I doubt that their batting will be able to do it.

Bangladesh started strongly. 12/0 after 1st over. 3 back to back boundries from Litton.

Oh boy, 3rd one is down. Shakib is gone this time and Bangladesh is in big trouble now. 26/3

Mehidy Hasan Miraz is gone as well. Bangladesh 4 down now. Is this all overs for them? i guess so

After 10 overs, Bangladesh has scored 57 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.

Just daft batting. Odi is about partnership. They all want to go for shots, match awareness is poor. Just lost wicket shanto comes and plays that wide swinging ball first up. Shakib looked in a hurry the whole stance before the ball bowled moving to the left then tried to block. Just seems going wild. Yes its 365 to get but you gotta give yourself a chance to get set first, game sense is ultra pathetic.

Mushy is batting way to low for a technical batsmen who can stop the wicket falling and has batted at 4th for years! Too many left handers at the top.

50 for Liton. Finally a 50 against a big team in ODI’s after long time!

After 14 overs, Bangladesh is 74/4. This chase is getting difficult with every passing over.

We thought a bit too big of ourself for our own good, hence tried to beat World champs “conventionally” - day game, slightly damp wicket, bowl first and get them 4 down by first power play with pace, swing, seem, bounce …..

Should have thought like a proper minnow - bat first, bat out 50 overs to put a total, then try to get chasing side off guard on their bad day.

The moment Shakib said we’re going to field - I knew what’s coming on that concrete slab…. went for a little sleep.

Litton (74*) and Mushfiqur (29*) are going well after a shaky start for Bangladesh 116/4 after 20 overs - 249 more runs needed

BD batting is a real concern. To me the order hasn’t been right for while. Too many left handers top 4. Mushy needs to batting at 4 where he has been most successful at. Shakib for me should batting 5 or 6. He has to be the finisher nowdays. He likes to attack and play shots, he takes risks, so at 5 and 6 more often than not he will come in with game set somewhat and having a good look of where the innings is and he can take it on from there.

For me next match
Liton
Shanto
Miraz
Mushfiq
Shakib
Hridoy
Mahmudullah
Mahedi/4th Seamer/Nasum
Taskin
Shoriful
Mustafiz

BD batting is so depressing I lose braincells watching them bat. Lots of daft shots, lack game sense, common sense. It just repeats every other match, more often than not throughout the year!

England showing Athar Ali what a real top quality team can do to your one of the semi finalist lol

England responded to defeat in their World Cup opener by comprehensively beating Bangladesh by 137 runs in Dharamsala.

After last week's heavy nine-wicket defeat by New Zealand, Dawid Malan's superb 140 from 107 balls formed the basis of a much-improved England's 364-9.

Malan put on 115 for the first wicket with Jonny Bairstow and 151 from just 117 balls from Joe Root, who made a typically composed 82 from 68.

Root and Malan took the score to 266-1 in the 38th over but the loss of eight wickets for 96 runs meant England failed to take full advantage.

Their score still proved plenty, however, with Reece Topley, brought in to replace all-rounder Moeen Ali, bowling a fine new-ball spell.

He took two wickets in as many balls in the second over and bowled Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan for one in the sixth.

Liton Das held firm with 76 and Mushfiqur Rahim made 51 but the required rate was always climbing.

Topley returned to dismiss Mushfiqur - the left-armer finished with figures of 4-43 - and Bangladesh slowly slid to 227 all out in 48.2 overs.

The win means England move to Delhi, where they play Afghanistan on Sunday, with momentum and confidence boosted.

Perhaps crucially, their net run-rate is also significantly boosted.

A workmanlike performance from England, not particularly exciting, but exactly the result they needed (a win by a huge margin) after the disastrous opening game. First points on the board and the net run rate corrected into the positive. Hopefully that is England settled and rebooted now & they can go on to have a good tournament, with no repeat of their shambolic display against NZ.

Bangladesh have been fined 5 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in a league match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on Tuesday, 10 October 2023.

Javagal Srinath of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Shakib Al Hasan’s side was ruled to be 1 over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 5 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Shakib Al Hasan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Paul Wilson, third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena leveled the charge.

I was told England's bowling is toothless and their batting wasn't the same without Eoin Morgan?
