Yes, earlier dhawan used to provide acceleration at the start which allowed Rohit to play slow but dhawan has gone into shell for some time and that has affected us adversely. However, Dhawan seems to striking at much better rate recently and hope he finds his way back as the value of putting bowlers under the pump is very underrated, as that can make them lose their line and lenght while slow starts like ours allow the bowlers to get into rhythm.

Apart from Sanath , Viru, gilly most of the openers were initially fast run scoring machines like Dhoni/Dhawan/Yuvi/Sachin etc after a certain age mellow down a bit.. Not sure why but all these players started off as destructive players but then after a certain age they started building up innings like a proper batsman.. Guess the testesterone level drops with age..

I agree. But India need to find a way for this slow start. A good day by likes of smith, root, warner can really put pressure. Classic case sf 15 vs aus, the slow start put a lot of pressure on kohli and others and game was lost in the first 25-30 overs. I dont trust India's bowling much. Yes, it is improving and I am hopeful and wishful about it but batting has always been India's strength.
