ICC Men's T20 World Cup warm-up games discussion

Windies have been terrible both warm up games. Doesn't look like most of the guys their take them to seriously lmao

Afghanistan 189/5 (20) defeat West Indies 133/5 (20 overs) by 56 runs.

Mohammad Nabi took 3/2 from 4 overs.

A good win for Afghanistan, West Indies look a shambles already.

India cruised to back-to-back wins in the warm-up games ahead of the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. All the Indian batters contributed to the eight-wicket win, with Rohit Sharma leading the way with a fantastic half-century.

India spun a web around the Australian top-order before Steve Smith's half-century and Marcus Stoinis' cameo propelled Australia to 152.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started steadily on a sluggish track where shot-making was difficult against the pacers. Against the spinners, however, Rahul looked at absolute ease as he smashed Agar and Zampa down the ground for two sixes and a four. Rohit, at the other end, seemed happy to play second fiddle.

KL Rahul eventually fell to Ashton Agar, trying to clear the boundary once again only to find David Warner in the deep. By the time Rahul was out, Rohit Sharma had got his eye in and took over the mettle of run-scoring. He brought up his half-century with a wonderful cut off Stonis.

Suryakumar Yadav too got some valuable runs to boost his confidence ahead of India's Super 12 opener against Pakistan. When India needed 26 off 30, Rohit decided to retire himself out to give Hardik Pandya some much-needed game time and it was eventually him who sealed the game with a straight six.

Earlier in the day, Australia skipper Aaron Finch chose to bat first against Rohit Sharma-led Indian team.

India chose to start with spin at one end and reaped instant rewards as Ashwin sent David Warner and Mitchell Marsh back to the pavilion off consecutive balls. Ravindra Jadeja scalped Aaron Finch off his first ball after which Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell have steadied the ship as Australia go into the drinks break at 57/3.

Just when it looked like Maxwell was getting in the groove, Rahul Chahar got the better of him with the googly.

Though Virat Kohli did not come out for the toss, he did roll his arm over for a couple of overs. Steve Smith soon brought up a well-made half-century after smashing Shardul Thakur for three consecutive fours. Stoinis' unbeaten 25-ball 41 helped Australia post 152/5 at the end of 20.

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat in their warm-up fixture against the West Indies in Dubai. And the decision paid immediate dividends as the opening batters brought up the 50 partnership inside five overs, with a true display of hitting inside the powerplay.

Oshane Thomas, Obed McCoy and Roston Chase were taken to the cleaners by Afghanistan’s opening pair, with only left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein providing any semblance of control early on. Hazratullah Zazai and Mohammad Shahzad both remained at the crease after six overs with the score 62/0.

The openers went on to register high-tempo half-centuries, the former falling to Hayden Walsh for 56(35) and the latter to Ravi Rampaul for 54(35).

A score in excess of 200 had looked on, but the Afghanistan run rate began to drop following the loss of the two in-form openers. And two excellent death overs from Obed McCoy and Andre Russell, which collectively picked up three wickets for just ten runs, restricted Afghanistan to a 189/5 – an impressive tally but one that could have been even higher after their lightning start. And Afghanistan’s amazing day continued with the ball as Mohammad Nabi bowled through his full allocation of overs straight up to register extraordinary figures of four overs, two maidens, three wickets for two runs.

Nabi and his fellow bowlers starved West Indies of runs, with the score just 50/3 after ten overs, with still 140 runs required.

And Roston Chase, in particular, found the going tough, with the West Indies number three managing just 18 runs off his first 29 balls

Chase did eventually reach his half-century, but the win never looked on and West Indies limped home still 56 runs short.

Mark Wood and Adil Rashid impressed as England beat New Zealand by 13 runs in their final Men's T20 World Cup warm-up game in Abu Dhabi.

Pace bowler Wood took 4-23 and leg-spinner Rashid 3-18 as New Zealand, chasing 164, were bowled out for 150.

Opener Jos Buttler hit 73 as England posted 163-6 from their 20 overs, but some of the top order struggled.

England begin their T20 World Cup campaign against defending champions West Indies on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.

"We are confident - it's a big game, but I'm sure we'll be relaxed and focused," Rashid said of England's first 'Super 12' group match.

"We are definitely confident if we stick to our strengths, stick to what we know, we'll do well."

Opener Jason Roy fell to the first ball of the match and Eoin Morgan, returning to captain the team after his stint at the Indian Premier League, looked patchy in making 10.

However, Buttler hit 11 fours and two sixes to get England's innings going, before Sam Billings' unbeaten 27 from just 17 balls propelled them forward in the final overs.

Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi impressed for New Zealand with 3-26, while Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took a wicket apiece.

Martin Guptill smashed 40 from 20 balls at the top of the order but New Zealand struggled against Rashid as he stifled the run-rate.

All-rounder Liam Livingstone played after injuring his finger in Monday's warm-up match against India and took 1-29.

Elsewhere, India beat Australia by eight wickets in their warm-up match while Rassie van der Dussen made an unbeaten 101 as South Africa pulled off a six-wicket win against Pakistan.

West Indies were thrashed by Afghanistan, who posted a huge 189-5 from their 20 overs before dismantling the opposition top order to claim a 56-run win.
