Afghanistan reached the semi-finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup, but this time they find themselves under pressure after just one match. A defeat to New Zealand in their tournament opener has left them facing an uphill battle, with their upcoming clash against South Africa likely a do-or-die encounter. Another loss could mean that even victories over Canada and the UAE may not be enough to secure a place in the Super Eight stage.

The challenge is a daunting one for Afghanistan. They have faced South Africa three times in T20 internationals and lost on every occasion. Their most recent meeting — during the 2024 edition — was especially painful, as South Africa dismissed them for just 56 before cruising to the target with nine wickets in hand.

History aside, South Africa come into the contest in strong form following a comprehensive win over Canada, a match in which they ticked nearly every box. Captain Aiden Markram struck a fluent half-century, while David Miller and Tristan Stubbs combined for an unbeaten 75-run partnership to lift the side to the highest total of the tournament so far. Lungi Ngidi’s four-wicket haul capped off an impressive all-round performance.

Another victory would place South Africa firmly on course for a smooth passage into the Super Eight stage.

Can't wait for South Africa to kick Afghanistan out.

The "2nd best team in Asia" will be leaving the T20 World Cup in less than a few days.

It is a high-scoring ground I believe. So, that nullifies Afghan spin attack.

South Africa are massive favorites.

In T20 it is possible for lower ranked teams to beat higher ranked teams. One brilliant inning or bowling performance can change the outcome .I would like South Africa to trash Afghanistan badly.Bowl them out for less than 80.If South Africa manages to do that it will hurt egos of Afghan players. It will be a psychological blow.PS Afghans will not get trashed just because I want them to get thrashed. My wish may come true or it may not.

Do or die game for Afghanistan .if one look at their record since asia cup they are struggling in t20i .Sa are favourites

Sediq needs to bat at 3 and bat long. Saffers are playing 2 left arm spinners and this otherwise RHB heavy batting lineup will get tied down very easily.

All weak/associate team have been hampered by their right hander heavy batting lineups.
