ICC T20 World Cup 2026: Super 8 clash between Pakistan and New Zealand abandoned without a ball being bowled

Strange that no rain at all in the forecast for next couple of weeks :). It can change but,... let's see who benefits from this weather. We got a ways to go.
 
What’s the equation for Babar in a 5 over match?

He can’t bat in the powerplay (2 overs)

Then there is a 3rd over where he might be needed

And then it’s over’s 4 and 5 where team won’t need him.

So at max a 5 -8 overs game .Pak will be cooked in that case.first few overs will be difficult to handle.they cant stick it out or hit it out.really brain fade from agha to elect batting after the arrival of drizzle.

3.1: Santner flights it up; Babar leans forward but gets a thick outside edge! It flies past slip for a lucky two runs.
3.2: Tighter line now. Babar defends softly. Dot.
3.3: Sharp turn from outside off! Beats the bat completely. Babar looks unsettled. Dot.
3.4: Skidded through flat and fast. Babar is cramped for room and can only jam it out. Dot.

Tomorrow game is likely to be washed out too at Kandy . So group 2 will start even again . All teams with two games in hand and 1 point each
 
I’m sorry to Pakistan fans that they have to see their team go through this in Sri Lanka whereas in India it’s bright and sunny.

Match time its only 15% for an hour. They will most likely get a full match. Unless the match is at 3?

Why not? Its AI powered era, AI can control the atmosphere under the roof which is suitable for cricket. Maybe in 2080?
 
Shorter the match the gap between opposition decreases. Pak will have the advantage. Let’s say a 10 over game with 2 overs by Usman won’t be easy for Nzl.
 
We have officially started losing overs now.

Cut off time for a 5 overs game is 10:16 pm
 
Tomorrow, rain is expected all day in Kandy, then all clear for weeks probably. Interesting tournament in that case for this group.

There is a chance of 3 of 4 teams ending up with 3 points or perhaps all losing one game. Don't lose big, and vice versa.
 
New Zealand are comfortably the best side in this group so Pak will be happy to get a free point.

Still remember their lucky DLS win in the 2023 world cup where they were chasing 400 against the same side.
 
This is a trap for Pakistan. Last sunday Pakistan put India after the toss, expecting swing, today it may actually swing if they bat first...:):)

Boss unless the side we lose to is the same one that also beat the other of sl or eng in their game. So we may also need their game to be washed out or the side that beat us must be the one that lost to the other of sl and eng.
 
Damp outfield means , no aid for bowlers then its basically which side has better hitters ! Over to you Sahibzada & Saim , as the coach has already denounced Babar

Still 2.5 hours to go for a minimum 5 overs match.....

If no match....
Pakistan will be happy with 1 point whereas
Nz will be frustrated as opportunity lost
 
This match would have been played in Mumbai in front of 70,000 people ton a flat pitch had Pakistan agreed to come to India. :Nehra

This is fair. Pakistan knew this could be the situation when selecting their squad for Sri Lanka conditions

we deal with it now! World cup’s are not handed over on a plate. If you knew that their could be rain reduced games, you should have stacked your squad with the appropriate amount of tullah’s as you say.
 
Usman Khan is an opener but he bats at no 6. He showed he can bat when Pakistan collapsed and his entry point came in PP against India. Shadab Khan strikes at 165 against spin but he won't face any spin coming in at no 7. If Faheem don't bowl he is a batter picked for no 9 position then.

They are not batsmen. Their hope is everyone makes 10 ball 20 so that they can add all and reach 200. The day an opposition bowler has a day out he can completely run through the middle order in a jiffy.

More chance of rain stopping than pak Wining this tournament. A point is gained here but fans pay for a full match , the 5 over rule is a
Money saving decision by ICC

Pakistan benefited with South Africa being knocked out by Netherlands

We have given a turd like Babar 4 more years and a joke like Rizwan 3 more years because of it.

If batting 10 balls is the expectation, they could have picked Nasseem/Abrar for Babar. Hesson is forced to pick him, I think.
