Mohammad Rizwan, KL Rahul and Martin Guptill sizzle in the top 10 list of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings for batters.

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has returned to the top 10 of the MRF Tyres ICC Men's T20I Rankings for batters after registering scores of 70, 31 and 51 in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against India. He has gained three spots as he sits at No.10 on the batters' chart.

KL Rahul, who made a match-winning 49-ball 65 in the second T20I versus the Black Caps, moved up one spot to No.5. Meanwhile, India skipper Rohit Sharma, who was consistent with the bat throughout the series, also progressed two spots to No.13.

After missing the New Zealand T20I series, India star Virat Kohli dropped out of the top 10 for batters, falling three places to No.11

Mitchell Santner made significant gains in the bowlers' list, soaring 10 spots to No.13 while India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has moved up to No.19 after gaining five spots. India spinners R Ashwin (up 129 spots to No.92) and Axar Patel (up 160 spots to No.112) are also among the top gainers.

In the three-match T20I series in Bangladesh, Mohammad Rizwan gained one spot, moving up to No.4 after accounting for 39 and 40 in the final two T20Is while young batter Haider Ali, who made a note-worthy 38-ball 45 in the final T20I, gained 53 spots to 184.

Shadab Khan has entered the top 15, climbing two spots to No.14 in the bowlers' chart while in the all-rounders' list, he has joined England's Ben Stokes at No.44.

ICC rankings are not a great indicator of player standing, in my humble opinion.

They should be redone very much like tennis rankings. Those are largely controversy free and carry plenty of cache.

Particularly, take into account opposition ranking, home vs away matches, more points for big tournaments.

I entirely agree with you.

These player rankings are currently deceptive. These rankings often don't tell the full picture. How can a guy like Dawid Malan (with all due respect to him) is #1 in T20 ranking? It makes no sense.

Only team rankings are reliable. Player rankings need to be calculated more practically.

Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has made it to the top five of the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for the first time in his career after a fine show in the first Test against Bangladesh which Pakistan won by eight wickets.

The 21-year-old left-armer, who grabbed seven wickets including a haul of five for 32 in the second innings of the Chittagong Test, has moved up three places to fifth position after overtaking James Anderson, Kagiso Rabada and Neil Wagner.

Shaheen’s new-ball partner Hasan Ali too is at a career-best position after finishing with a similar seven-wicket match haul that included a five-for in the first innings. Hasan has advanced five places to 11th place. His previous best in Tests was 14th, reached in May this year.

Pakistan’s opening batters were not the ones to be left behind. Abid Ali may have missed out on a century in each innings but his scores of 133 and 91 helped him shoot up 27 slots to a career-best 20th position while Abdullah Shafique enters the rankings at 83rd with scores of 52 and 73.

For Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim is up four places to 19th with scores of 91 and 16 while Liton Das has moved up 26 places to a career-best 31st position after accruing 114 and 59. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam has progressed two places to 23rd after an eight-wicket match haul that included seven scalps in the first innings.

The thrilling draw in Kanpur between India and New Zealand had quite a few performances from either side that reflect in the latest weekly update that also includes the first Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies at Galle, which the host side won by 187 runs.

Debutant Shreyas Iyer’s Player of the Match effort of 105 and 65 helped him enter the rankings in 74th position while opener Shubman Gill (up six places to 66th) and Wriddhiman Saha (up nine places to 99th) also made notable progress after notching half-centuries.

Ravindra Jadeja is up two places to 19th among bowlers with five wickets in the match and is also up one place to second among all-rounders. Ravichandran Ashwin is the third-ranked all-rounder and 79th among batters.

For New Zealand, Tom Latham’s knocks of 95 and 52 place him back in the top 10 as he goes up from 14th to ninth. Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson is ninth among bowlers, his three wickets in each innings resulting in a gain of six places. Tim Southee has gained 15 rating points to reach within one point of second-placed Ashwin (840) after his eight-wicket match haul.

Sri Lanka, whose win in their first match of the ICC Men’s Test Championship put them on top of the table powered by MRF (on percentage points), also had some improvements after the Galle Test.

Captain Dimuth Karunaratne’s Player of the Match effort of 147 and 83 has lifted him four places to seventh, just one below his career-best sixth position attained in August 2019. Former captains Angelo Mathews (up two places to 23rd) and Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 46th) have also advanced.

Left-arm spinners Lasith Embuldeniya (up four places to 37th) and Praveen Jayawickrama (up six places to 44th) and off-spinner Ramesh Mendis (up 28 places to 57th) have improved in the rankings for bowlers.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali and Abid Ali have achieved career-high rankings following match-winning performances in the first Test against Bangladesh, which Pakistan won by eight wickets.

Shaheen recorded figures of two for 70 and five for 32, and has been rewarded with a jump of three places that has now put him in fifth position behind Pat Cummins (Australia), Ravichandran Ashwin (India), Tim Southee (New Zealand) and Josh Hazlewood (Australia).

From the Chattogram Test, Shaheen collected 27 points that have lifted him from 783 points to 810 points. In reaching the 800-point mark, Shaheen has become the 11th Pakistan bowler to break the 800-point barrier. Other Pakistan bowlers to enter the 800-point mark are: Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Fazal Mahmood, Yasir Shah, Shoaib Akhtar, Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Abbas, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Ahmed and Mohammad Asif.

Hasan Ali, who had figures of five for 51 and two for 52, has vaulted five places to 11th in the latest ICC Rankings for Test Bowlers.

Hasan Ali has leapfrogged Stuart Broad (England), Kemar Roach (West Indies), Mitchell Starc (Australia), Jason Holder (West Indies) and Trent Boult (New Zealand). Hasan now sits on 755 points and will aim to collect eight more points from the Dhaka Test to break into the top-1o for the first time in his career.

Opener Abid has vaulted into the top-20 for the first time in his career after his 133 and 91 has lifted him from 47th to 20th.

From the Chattogram Test, Abid has earned 111 points making him the second Pakistan batters after captain Babar Azam (eighth, down by one) to feature inside the top-2o. Pakistan batters outside the top-20 are Mohammad Rizwan (21st, down by three), Azhar Ali (22nd, down by one) and Fawad Alam (27th, down by seven).

Abdullah Shafique, who scored 52 and 73 on his debut, has entered the ICC rankings in 83rd position and is expected to make a further upward movement if he manages to repeat his performances in the second Test, which commences on Saturday.

Joe Root of England is the No.1 ranked batter and is followed by Steve Smith (Australia), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Marnus Labuschagne (Australia) and Rohit Sharma (India).

ICC: Massive gains for Agarwal and Ajaz Patel in MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

India opener Mayank Agarwal and New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel have made huge progress in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after outstanding performances in the second Test of their ICC World Test Championship series in Mumbai.

Agarwal’s Player of the Match effort of 150 and 62 has helped him gain 30 spots and reach 11th position in the latest weekly update to the men’s rankings which is carried out on Wednesdays and includes all matches ending on Tuesdays. He is just one spot below a career-best 10th position that he first attained in November 2019.

Mumbai-born Patel, who became only the third player to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings, emulating Jim Laker and Anil Kumble, has moved up 23 slots to 38th after finishing with 14 wickets in the match. The left-arm spinner’s previous best ranking was 53rd and he had started the series in 62nd position.

Others to move up in the rankings after the Mumbai Test are India opener Shubman Gill (up 21 places to 45th), fast bowler Mohammad Siraj (up four places to 41st) and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell (up 26 places to 78th).

Ravichandran Ashwin has bridged the gap with top-ranked bowler Pat Cummins after finishing with four wickets in each innings in India’s 372-run victory. Ashwin has gained 43 rating points to reach a total of 883 and is 67 points ahead of third-placed Josh Hazlewood. He has moved up one place to second among all-rounders even as his compatriot Ravindra Jadeja has slipped to fourth in the list led by West Indies’ Jason Holder.

Holder has gained one spot to reach 14th among bowlers in Wednesday’s update, that also considers performances from the Galle Test that Sri Lanka won by 164 runs to complete a 2-0 series victory and remain atop the ICC World Test Championship points table powered by MRF Tyres.

Kraigg Brathwaite (up 10 places to 39th) and Nkrumah Bonner (up 17 places to 42nd) are the batters to move up for the West Indies but the one to gain the most after the Galle Test is Player of the Match Dhananjaya de Silva, who has advanced 12 places to 21st after his unbeaten 155 in the second innings.

Spinners Lasith Embuldeniya and Ramesh Mendis too have made substantial gains. Embuldeniya has gained five slots to reach 32nd position after finishing with seven wickets in the match, while Mendis has progressed 18 places to 39th with an 11-wicket match haul.

Australia batters Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head have gained from their fine performances in Brisbane, attaining career-best positions in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, as has Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi after the Dhaka Test.

Labuschagne’s first innings 74 in the first Test against England has lifted him two slots to a career-best second position while Player of the Match Travis Head’s pacy 152 has helped him gallop 16 places to 10th in the list. Labuschagne’s previous best ranking was third while Head’s best was 17th.

Shaheen headlines the bowling rankings in the latest weekly update for men that is carried out on Wednesdays and includes the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan, which Pakistan won by an innings and eight runs to clinch full ICC World Test Championship points from the series.

Shaheen has continued his ascent with three wickets in the match while off-spinner Sajid Khan has zoomed up 52 places to 49th after a 12-wicket haul that won him the Player of the Match award. Good to see Pakistani Fast bowlers actually make Test top 10. Only spinners or medium pacers have made it in there in the last 10 years from memory.

Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne is now the number one batter in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, surpassing England’s Joe Root who had been on top since August this year. In the second Test held in Adelaide, Marnus scored his first Ashes century and went on to be adjudged the 'Player of the Match' for his knocks of 103 and 51 contributing towards Australia's 275-run win over England. He is the ninth player from Australia to have crossed the 900-point mark with the bat, joining the elite league of gentlemen, Sir Don Bradman, Ricky Pointing, Mathew Hayden, Steve Smith, Michael Clarke etc.

Within the bowlers, Mitchell Starc is back in the world’s top ten Test bowlers for the first time since this January. Whilst his compatriot Pat Cummins held onto the top spot despite missing the second Test. England’s Ollie Robinson is in the world’s top 25 bowlers for the first time at a career-best 597 points and Joe Root has made his first appearance in the world’s top 10 all-rounders after his 111th Test appearance.

In the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings there is a tie for top spot of batters between Pakistan’s Babar Azam and England’s Dawid Malan. Mohammad Rizwan is now at a career-best 798 points and is the second Pakistani in the top three batter’s category.

Nicholas Pooran was the bright spot for the West Indies in their 3-0 T20I series defeat against Pakistan. His 108 runs at a strike rate of 147.94 took him up to 27th place, up from his previous career best of 30th.

Brilliant rise Marnus. Becoming the world's best after only 20 games is astounding.
Seriously t20 rankings even exists, anyways don't care.

Is that because Pakistanis are dominating in it?

Try and be a little more subtle please.

according to this tweet, Babar Azam is #1 .

Definitely joint first.

I generally don't rate t20 rankings much especially batting rankings. It's entertainment for sure but its always biased towards opening batsmen due to short format.
In most games openers make big scores but middle and lower order win games but they have no chance to show up in rankings.

I would still rate bowlers in all formats including t20.

And regarding team rankings look at Australia being world champions after not being in top 5 for last few years.

In odis and tests , a player from other positions can still perform and rise in rankings and those rankings can be taken on face value.

And finally NO it's not because of Pakistan or England being on top.

SCOTT BOLAND MAKES AN IMPRESSIVE DEBUT IN THE MRF TYRES ICC MEN'S TEST PLAYER RANKINGS

Australian test debutant Scott Boland makes his debut in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for bowlers for his outstanding performance in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG. He is now ranked 74th with 271 points.

Boland etched his name in the record books with an astonishing six-wicket haul that wrapped up the Ashes on day three of the third test in Melbourne on Tuesday. The 32-year-old Victoria pacer finished with outstanding innings figures of 6/7 in four overs. Along the way, he matched the 19-ball record for the fastest five-wicket haul in tests shared by England's Stuart Broad at the 2015 Ashes and Australia's Ernie Toshack in 1947. Finishing with a seven-wicket match haul in a thumping innings and 14 run victory for Australia.

Pat Cummins is still above 900 points thanks to his three early wickets in England’s first innings. England pacer, James Anderson improved his Ashes average in Australia to such a degree that it is now better than his average against Australia in England. His figures of 4/33 in 23 overs gained him three places to 5th.

In the batter’s category, Marnus Labuschagne continues to hold the top spot whilst, Steve Smith has dropped a place to fourth, his lowest position since December 2015.

In the all-rounders list, Mitchell Starc nudged ahead of Ben Stokes into fifth place.

Despite the disappointment of Ashes defeat, James Anderson has climbed three places on the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test bowling rankings, with Mitchell Starc's impact rewarded with a move further up the all-rounders top ten.

James Anderson stunning spell of 4/33 in England's only bowling innings helped him move three spots up to No.5 in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings update.

It was Anderson who drew first blood and dismissed David Warner on the stroke of stumps on Day 1 after England were bowled out for 185. The next day, he bowled a brilliant spell upfront and was rewarded with the wicket of Steve Smith.

He later got the prized scalp of Marcus Harris, who looked well on course for a hundred, on 76. Anderson then broke a budding 34-run stand between Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, by getting the wicket of the Australian skipper and ensuring the hosts don't run away with a massive lead.

Amongst the other bowlers in the match, Scott Boland directly debuted at No.74 in the Test Bowling Rankings. He returned Player of the Match-winning figures of 6/7 in the second innings, helping Australia secure an innings win and retain the Ashes.

Starc moved up a spot to No.5 in the Test All-rounders Rankings at the expense of Ben Stokes. Starc was once again lethal with the ball in hand, picking up five wickets across two innings in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. He also made a handy contribution of 24* that helped extend Australia's lead to 82.

Marcus Harris, who had endured a difficult series up until the Boxing Day Test where he scored 76, climbed a massive 29 spots and broke into the top 100 batters, sitting at No.83 in the latest weekly rankings update.

A phenomenal 2021 in Test Match Cricket for #TeamIndia ....Brisbane, Oval, Lord's and now Centurion in 2021
After memorable wins at the Gabba and Lord's, team India wrapped up 2021 in style by bringing down South Africa's citadel, the Supersport Park, as they handed the Proteas a 113-run loss in the opening Tes as India became the first Asian team to win a Test match at the SuperSport Park. Perfect way to end a stellar year for Indian Test Cricket.
