India continued to sit atop the tree in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings following the latest update on Tuesday 1 May, with South Africa at No.2 and Australia at No.3.

Not only that, with the results from 2014-15 being removed from the equation and those from 2015-16 and 2016-17 being weighted at 50 per cent, India have actually stretched their lead over South Africa from four to 13 points.

In another major development, Bangladesh have moved above the Windies to No.8, pushing the one-time dominant force in the game to No.9 for the first time.

Bangladesh have moved past the Windies to the No.8 spot Bangladesh have moved past the Windies to the No.8 spot

Elsewhere, Australia have gained four points to get to 106, pushing New Zealand down from No.3 to No.4, even though New Zealand earned themselves $200,000 for being in third place at the last cut-off date on 3 April. India and South Africa, meanwhile, got $1 million and $500,000 respectively.

For India, who played just four Tests in the 2014-15 season – losing 2-0 in Australia – the move up was expected following an excellent run since, highlighted by the 10 wins in 13 Tests in the 2016-17 season.

Season M W L D
2014-15 4 0 2 0
2015 4 2 1 1
2015-16 4 3 0 1
2016 4 2 0 2
2016-17 13 10 1 2
2017 3 3 0 0
2017-18 6 2 2 2

As for Bangladesh and the Windies, the records since the start of 2015 haven’t been too different, with Bangladesh winning three of their 18 Tests and losing 10, while the Windies have won five and lost 18 of their
28 Tests.

Team M W L D
Bangladesh 18 3 10 5
Windies 28 5 18 5

* Since the start of 2015

England, who have gained a point, Sri Lanka, who have lost one, and Pakistan, down by two points, fill the positions between New Zealand and Bangladesh, with Zimbabwe propping up the table with two points – up by one – in the latest update.

So India is ahead of the #2 Test team by 13 points. Great!

I will not be happy until we break into the top 6.

If we play to our true potential, we will definitely grab that no 6 spot within next two years.

Well done India. They dominate at home like they should. And now they win overseas too - beating weaker teams easily and gave an excellent account of themselves against South Africa. Next up: England and Australia.

Most other teams, when overseas, are patchy against weaker teams and get blown away against the stronger ones.

Hope Sarfaraz finds the magic potion for Pakistan too.

Hopefully they will get credit that they deserve. They are the strongest team at home and are becoming increasingly competitive abroad now a days.

Good for bd but need a lot to be in top six... Need lot of pacers to do well in test. Hope they get some soon.

Difference between India (No.1) and South Africa (No.2) is more than difference between Pakistan (No.7) and Bangladesh (No.8) Wow! :bm

Congrats for being getting stronger...wish pak and bang become top 3 one day.

Won't remain for long. SA will win the 2 tests against SL and this is what happens depending upon India's result against England (considering some likely scenarios; assumption: England wins 1:0 against Pakistan)

1) 4-1 loss: Both at 115
2) 3-2 loss: India ahead by 2
3) 2-3 win: India ahead by 8
4) 2-2 draw: India ahead by 5

So India is ahead of the #2 Test team by 13 points. Great!

It's not that surprising tbh.I've been saying this for a while that there is no sensible way you can rate SA and Australia higher or even on Par with India based on recent Test Performances.

I like this that India is on top in all 3 formats of the game. Not only we dominate on-field Cricket, but we are on top in off-field affairs too. This is how it should be.

Past performance is no guarantee for future but India on course to become the most successful team of the decade across all formats. If they find themselves on top of the rankings at this time next year, they'd comfortably be the most successful test team of this decade.

Great to see us ahead by a good margin.

Puts the England Test series in even bigger limelight. No excuses this time, we are playing T20s and ODIs before the tests giving us ample time to be ready, Test specialists will fly early, some players would have been playing county cricket, there is an India A tour planned as well. If despite all this we can't do well, we will never be competitive away from home again.

Congratulations to Indian cricket for extending their lead in points.

For that Bangladesh needs to play more test cricket.

Win loss ratio is more important than playing lots matches. But I agree Bangladesh should be playing 8 tests a year.

Bangladesh had 3 points in 2013 and gradually worked their way up to 75 in 5 years. That’s an average gain of 14 points a year. But BD has only played 5-6 tests per year. They gained points by winning a few recently and by drawing a fair number.

Yes, we have a good chance this series, especially as we have quite a few good pacers.

If despite all this we can't do well, we will never be competitive away from home again.

You are just seeing the beginning of India's rise. Mark my words, in 10 years India will be competitive in every away series. The talent being discovered and nurtured by India's growing commercial sports complex far exceeds anything we have had before.

Congrats and well deserved. They have played good cricket away and at home.

Most Indians were labeling India as the new 2000s Aus or the old WIs but what happened to them on their very first overseas tour after a long home season?...yea they lost...big surprise...So much for being a dominating force.

"Most Indians"? Did you do a survey? Any evidence (for example posts on PP) to back up your words?

Didn't need to do a survey. I guess i should have said most Indians that i've come across. I don't need to prove anything. What i said doesn't even justify the type of arrogance that is shown by these fans on social media. I'm sure there are decent fans out there but i rarely come across them. It's as if India is be-all-and-end-all, for them i'm sure it is.

well, then you should say, "I feel like most indians" because this is what you feel, and yes, the onus of proof is on you, this is critical analysis 101, when you give an argument back it with fact. and as opposed to decent fans, being a fan means supporting the team, what you actually want is some indian criticising indian team or following your point of view then you would label it decent, have you ever wondered that world is not like what you think it should be?

maybe now, you would be less biased.

Can you back up any of that?

and for arrogance, maybe you do not like the purple patch india is going through, their fans are happy, they believe in their team, India goes as favourites in all of the international games, is on TOP of all types of cricket right now.

so we are just happy, and if you find it arrogant (for us being happy) then that means you are envious rather than labelling us arrogant.

You want proof? Go read ICC twitter's tweet related to Pakistan or go watch Pakistan cricket discussions on Youtube. Go tell that to the fan base of Indian cricket. Every tweet related to Pakistan has Indians, coming even before Pakistanis, cursing families and cricketers. Every time someone criticizes Indians again they start cursing your family. They act like Indian cricket is superior to others. When someone post positive stats related to Pakistan cricketer they lose their minds and start praising their cricketers while bashing Pakistan cricketer...lol. You can live in denial but that's the kind of mentality most fans have-that i've come across. There have been multiple occasions when Indian fan base even attacked ex-cricketers-there have been threads here regarding that as well.
If that's how the fan base reacts when they are happy then idk what to say.
This is not my opinion this is fact.

Like i said what i said doesn't even justify that kind of behavior. No matter how good your team is, that kind of behavior is pathetic

So you checked a billion Indian tweets?? and generalised every indian team fan? good on you man, very very open minded, and also a lot of time :-D and one more thing, if you do not mind generalising a billion people, then we won't mind generalising pakistanis, and you know how that goes?

be open minded, just because you read a bunch of tweets form Indians does not make it a fact.

if you go on tweet and search for IPL, you would also see a lot of pakistanis saying a lot of bad stuff about IPL, and vice versa, so you know what, this is world, if you hate someone they are not obliged to love you back, they will more likely hate you back.

when you label us toxic do not expect us to love you.
