This is the problem with Sub-continental approach to white ball cricket.

There's just a huge issue with realizing how effective big hitting is and how counter-productive negative play is.

The Bangladesh side is much much stronger than the WI team, but they didn't give Pinak, Shanto and Joyraz the freedom to bat the way Pope, Imlach and Springer are batting.

Bdesh captain is pretty dumb not to have a long-off in place for Pope.

Don't know why Asian fielders are not going for the reverse cup way of catching like fielders of the western teams.

If WI make the final, he's going to destroy Indian bowlers lol, especially Khaleel Ahmed.

WI have tendency to throw away their good starts. They decimated Pakistan in first 15-20 overs but panicked afterwards

It doesn't matter if the individual batsmen gets out. The team will still score because they have been given a lot of time by the rest.

Pope out for 38 as I type, but this is match changing, almost match-winning effort.

Looks like its going to be a final of cocky indians vs cocky bangladeshis.

Not at all. This is how he's played the whole innings and it's worked very well indeed. Good decision, perhaps not the best execution. A pat on the back, in the dressing room.

Tbh he already had 10 runs from the over and it was obvious he was going to try one more and the guy bowled a little quicker and he was a walking wicket. He could had waited that over off.

The same thing can be said in earlier over where he got three boundaries. You don't get big fast scores thinking that way. Pope's logic is closer to how the game is played at highest level nowadays. Big overs are hugely demoralizing. When a bowler has been hit for 10 already he is more likely to be rattled and bowl bad balls. You are more likely to hit him out of the attack and force them to resort to sixth and seventh bowlers.

A general principle of sports (and other things) is that when things are going very well is the best time to press the advantage and be aggressive.

That logic is ok for a T20 and i get that but when its a 50 over match 10 runs in any over is demoralizing as well.
ODI unlike T20 is still about partnerships at least on such pitches which have much for the bowlers,India did that against Lanka as well and 225 is not that great score to chase that he has to have 3 boundaries every over.

Pope's innings has made sure that run-rate will never be a problem for WI till the last over. It's all about conserving wickets now.

And partnerships come when runs are flowing. Not just by staying there. This is exactly the kind of match where losing momentum would be deadly. This is a smallish chase, a huge partisan crowd. If the pressure starts building the crowd gets in and makes noise . Runs flowing keeps it simple. The point is once it reaches a certain level they can't apply pressure any more and WI right to try and get to this point.

4.05 runs per over. Not that easy. Play like Hetmeyer 0 (15) for too long and it will go up to 5.5 and pressure can start to come. No need to blast like he was, but can't go into a shell at all.

I think we can agree to disagree i still feel the approach of one boundary and other balls -2s,3s,1s are more than enough for ODI on non-flat pitches.

Hetmyer has such good footwork its lovely to watch.Hope he doesn't get out now.

It is. My problem is with the typically Indian logic of shutting up shop the moment you've got that one boundary. Some overs will be good, won't get boundaries. That's why when you have the bowlers rattled you capitalize and then chill.

Wi batsmen always looking for runs here, no tuk tuk even though req rate isn't too huge.

This innings from Hetmeyer proves how valuable Pope was. His big hitting allowed Hetmeyer to get set. And now that Hetmeyer got set, he also is hitting big so that the next guy will be able to take his time. When Asian teams lose wickets the batsmen don't have this luxury because the set batsmen have cruised.

Agree with you man.

Depends Shamar Springer is a very big hitter. He will hit too. If he gets out maybe a sliver of a chance. If he lasts 20 balls goodbye.

Honestly I dont think WI will have any chance against this Indian side. India is way ahead of other teams in this WC.

Indians. That's the key. Same mentality as these two teams. Bangladesh is a stronger side than WI as well. The problem comes when the batsmen settle for too little and the bowlers are left to regret it. India can make the same mistake as well. Rishabh Pant has got his IPL contract for 1.5 crores. He won't hit in the final. If Sarfaraz Khan fails India will be in big trouble.

So it will be the eldest brother India taking revenge of both the younger brother's losses from west indies in final

Only Asian team standing now is India. Good for BD fans, they now dont have to face overaged Indian players.

BD under-19 team would have certainly won the match if West Indies had fielded undernourished players instead of such hefty players. So it was unfair play by West Indians. :)

Springer was just brilliant today ,Hetmyer is defn the best bat in the tournament if playing pace and spin is considered and is such class to watch.

Good fight from our boys. Shocked that we batted first after winning the toss, when half the country was hoping that we would win the toss and chase.

Anyways, well done WI

So the favourites BD crushed out to Windies which they had besten easily prior to this WC. This is the difference between big teams with experience and newly turned good teams with little experience.

Where is that Energetic guy, come down to earth now?

haha everyone (including me) is quoting energetic lol, this guy was really boasting to everyone it seems, I told him west indies will beat bangladesh and he was like bangla boys are favorites, they destroyed windies before the world cup, you don't know anything about cricket blah blah blah :misbah

Do you know anything about Cricket? right before the tournament, Bangladesh destroyed West Indies 3-0. Bangladesh's fielding is far superior to Pakistan under-19s, and that's proving to be the main difference. Not only that, but technically, BD are way superior too. Pakistan batsman couldn't handle the pace and swing of these West Indian fast bowlers.

Gold :misbah
