Ten Sports rubbishes news regarding ICC World Cup

ISLAMABAD - Aly Rana, CEO of Tower Sports (Pvt) Ltd has rubbished claims made by some quarters that Ten Sports Pakistan may not air the ICC World Cup 2019.

Aly, CEO of Tower Sports (Pvt) Ltd, which is a company solely owned by Pakistani nationals and based in Pakistan, clarified that Tower Sports (Pvt) Ltd is the PEMRA-licensed Landing Rights holder of Ten Sports Pakistan. Rana confirmed that the channel Ten Sports Pakistan is owned by MSM Asia Ltd, a UK-based entity, which is in turn owned and controlled by Sony Corporation Japan.

ICC Cricket WC Warmup Matches Broadcast Thread

Every time only indias Warm up matches telecast live. What about other matches. Whats this time around? Pak v Ban Warm up. It will telecast live or not?

Anyone living in UK...I would urge to attend the warm up matches. You can buy the ticket on the match day itself, tickets cost only 15£ per person and you can seat anywhere. I always attend the warm up games...its not as crowded as main matches and a great oppirtunity to meet players in person. During CT 2017, I attended both India warm up games against Kiwis and against BD and had the pleasure of meeting Dhoni, Saurav Ganguly, MSK Prasad, Simon Doull, Sowmya Sarkar, Ramiz Raja etc. This time also we are playing against NZ and BD and will attend both.

Only 3 warm up matches will be shown on telly I think
South Africa 10:30 Windies - 26th May
England 10:30 Afghanistan - 27th May
Bangladesh 10:30 India - 28th May

South Africa vs West Indies, England vs Afghanistan and Bangladesh vs India are being broadcast.

Sky Sports Cricketare also showing Pak vs Afg warm up match on 24th May at 10am, just saw the cricket schedule for sky sports

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced a stellar line up of commentators for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup along with detailed broadcast plans that will bring more than a billion fans closer to the action and players than ever before.

The last man to lift the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, Michael Clarke, will be making his ICC TV commentary debut alongside some of the game’s most respected broadcasters including Nasser Hussain, Ian Bishop, Sourav Ganguly, Melanie Jones, Kumar Sangakkara, Michael Atherton, Alison Mitchell, Brendon McCullum, Graeme Smith and Wasim Akram.

Other big names who will commentate through the tournament include Shaun Pollock, Michael Slater, Mark Nicholas, Michael Holding, Isa Guha, Pommie Mbangwa, Sanjay Manjrekar, Harsha Bhogle, Simon Doull, Ian Smith, Ramiz Raja, Athar Ali Khan and Ian Ward.

Nasser Hussain: “The whole of England and Wales is buzzing with excitement in anticipation of the massive summer of cricket ahead. This edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup promises to be the most entertaining one yet and I cannot wait to be part of this event broadcast and witness history in the making, first hand.”

Brendon McCullum: “Still the marquee event in our sport, I've got so many wonderful memories of World Cup cricket. 2015 was the pinnacle after a lot of hard work and I'm excited to be involved in a different capacity this time around - hopefully we'll have plenty of drama!”

Kumar Sangakarra: “This is going to be a very special summer of cricket in England and Wales and possibly the most competitive ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup of all time. Hosts England have a great team but there are several realistic contenders and we are sure to see some amazing cricket along the way.”

Melanie Jones: “There is an intense sense of anticipation for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup amongst players and fans alike. The round-robin format pitting each nation against each other, added with the strength of all ten teams, will no doubt result in the most competitive and closely fought World Cup to date. Add to that the chance of first time World Cup winner and it’s as exciting as the possibility of numerous upsets throughout.”

Wasim Akram: “The upcoming Cricket World Cup has the same format as in 1992. It is the best format as teams get more chances and I reckon all teams will have an equal chance to qualify for the semi-finals. A World Cup comes every four years so players wait for it and do their best to give a memorable performance. I hope we are going to see some stiff competition with the edge of the seat thrillers, high skills and unmatched moments with the best players of the world on show.”

Ian Bishop: “I look forward to the next few weeks with great anticipation and expectation. It’s an honor to be part of the broadcast commentary team that will bring the stories, updates and analysis of the Cricket World Cup to you wherever you are. This edition promises to be even more exciting and innovative than ever and it is a great privilege to be a part of the team that brings it to you.”

ICC TV will produce live coverage of all 48 matches being played over 46 days, as well as full live coverage of all ten warm-up matches for the first time.

Viewers will be treated to state-of-the-art coverage which will include a minimum of 32 cameras at every game, including eight ultra-motion Hawk-Eye cameras, front and reverse view stump cameras and Spidercam.

For the first time at a Cricket World Cup, the broadcast will produce 360° replays, provided by Piero which allows multiple camera feeds to be stitched together to create stunning video that helps provide in-depth analysis of big moments in the game.

The coverage will also be complemented with a variety of analytical and visual enhancements including the use of Player Tracking. Broadcast tools such as Hawk-Eye will be supplemented by an in-depth cricket data analytics system to be provided by analytics app Cricviz.

The drone camera provided by Batcam will also provide stunning visuals of all venues across England and Wales. There will be a roving Buggy Cam as well, for a ground level view of proceedings.

ICC TV is supported by production services partner Sunset+Vine and equipment services partner NEP Broadcast Solutions. Whilst sports graphics specialists Alston Elliott have developed a contemporary-styled graphics package to visualize the ever-crucial scores and statistics throughout the coverage.

Aarti Dabas, Head of Media Rights, Broadcast and Digital said: “I am excited to welcome such a talented team of broadcasters to ICC TV, they will bring to life the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for more than a billion fans around the world.

“Our focus for this event has been on bringing fans closer to cricket than ever before and our comprehensive host broadcast plan delivers this. Fans can enjoy unique insights from our commentators supplemented by unprecedented analytics focus making this the most engaging World Cup broadcast production to date.”

ICC TV has also made arrangements to produce a host of additional content off the field of play, to be distributed to its broadcast partners and other media rights partners via the ICC TV Content Delivery Service. This content will include daily player profiles, team features, match previews, venue features and other behind the scenes content, getting fans up close and personal with all the action around the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

So ICC selected manjerakar and akram for World Cup commentary and not bumble!

https://youtu.be/HFnRFIU8LpI

So this list is missing the great Danny Morrison as well but seriously how do you select akram who can’t even speak proper English and manjerakar who is the most boring and dull commentator in the world. Not forgetting that he is even hated in India in the commentary box because of his bias towards Mumbai and etc. Honestly David bumble is one of the best and most exciting commentators out there how can you not have that guy seriously ?

I second that Bumble should have been there.

Perhaps they wanted to limit commentators from a certain country to a specific max number, and "Bumble" Loyd might have missed out.

I think they wanted people from all countries.

Also I think Bumble has the potential to maybe offend some people with his humour, so they are playing it safe

one-hour highlights show on terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4, which will air approximately three hours after the end of each game.

Good for those that will miss some, if not all, live matches because of other commitments. Also it's great cricket is back on terrestrial tv for another WC.

Bumble is a sky sports favorite, ICC have gone a bit more PC friendly with a few selections from each country glad to see my fav Mark Nicholas will be present., my opinion, but i still don't like the fact of having female commies just for the sake of it.

True Bumble deserved to be in. Those other names have to be in to represent nations of each team.

Willow tv is supposed to launch a channel in Canada. But with just 3 days left before start of WC 2019, i called Rogers cable and they had no clue. I also checked on Bell TV website and again there was no information.
Do any Canadian posters know what is going on?

If cable signals are good then contact your cable operator & get HD digital receiver. PTV is broadcasting WC in 1080P quality.

PTV and 1080p, are you for real?

Yes, picture quality is better than star sports. Color temperature is not right on star sports its too warm. PTV quality has improved dramatically this year. Even domestic tournaments coverage has been top notch. Those days are gone when PTV put up blurry videos with horrible camera angles & commentary.

Don't see that in the PTV sports we receive here through IPTV.

IPTV is crap. Get latest HD receiver (supporting 1080p, remember there is big difference b/w 1080i & 1080p) from your cable operator, invest some money on external speakers as well.
I am not a PTI supporter, but they have done exceptionally well on that front so far. PTV's transmission has become very professional.

I live in the Netherlands and our local cable operator hasn't included PTV sports in their packages. So IPTV is our only option. Sky Sports is as well but that is expensive as hell.

It's broadcast in 576i quality. There's no way it can be 1080p when PTV Sports has never even had 720p capability.

They are obviously using the original broadcast from the broadcast partner which will be 1080p but they don't have the capability to broadcast it on the channel using the same quality. Unless I'm mistaken and there's different versions :13: Don't think that's likely.

There's plenty of other channels I have that are 720p/1080p and there's a visible difference in quality.

Any good mobile app for watching live cricket? (Apart from Smartcric)

Guys, any good mobile app for watching live streaming of today's match?

The latest edition of one of the fiercest rivalries in sport plays out this Sunday when India and Pakistan meet in the Cricket World Cup in England, in a showdown expected to attract up to 1 billion fans to their TV sets.

India versus Pakistan is a match imbued with the cricket obsessions of both countries’ populations, but also the broader rivalry between the two neighbors.

That will be transported to a foreign field on Sunday when the pair meet in their 2019 ICC World Cup group stage game at Old Trafford, Manchester.

The magnitude of the game is hard to exaggerate, and will generate interest to rival any other sporting event this year, including the American extravaganza of the Super Bowl and the recent UEFA Champions League final.

Television audiences of up to 1 billion people are expected to tune in as India, a cricket-obsessed nation of 1.3 billion, plays Pakistan, a nation of 200 million who are equally as enamored with the sport.

Added to that, the large number of Indian and Pakistani fans in the UK will ensure the atmosphere at the famous 26,000-seater Old Trafford ground is just as fervent as if the game were being played in Hyderabad or Lahore.

Tickets for the match were reportedly the most requested of the entire tournament – including the final – and had 500,000 applications.

Unless the two teams should meet again later in the tournament at the knockout stage, the game will be the biggest of the entire two-week event in England.

The run-up to the game has added spice to the encounter, after a World Cup advert in Pakistan provoked anger by parodying a video of captured Indian airforce pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was shot down when tensions flared over Kashmir ealier this year.

Indian wicketkeeping star MS Dhoni, an honorary lieutenant colonel of the Indian territorial army, has also been told by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to remove the insignia of the Indian special forces which he had sported on his gloves.

Pakistan, meanwhile, can count on the support of Prime Minister Imran Khan, a former international fast bowler and cricketing legend.

Two-time tournament winners India are favorites heading into the match, and have two wins and one no result from their three matches so far, after their planned clash against New Zealand was washed out this week.

They are led by national icon and global cricketing megastar Virat Kohli, and batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been in the runs at the tournament so far.

Their bowling attack boasts spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as well as medium-pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

One-time winners Pakistan went into the tournament on a disastrous run of form, but recovered from an opening-game thrashing at the hands of the West Indies to beat hosts England. They have since fallen to Australia and seen their match against Sri Lanka rained off.

Opening batsman Mohammad Hafeez – who starred in the win against England – will be crucial to their chances, as will wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfaraz Ahmed, the team’s skipper.

Despite India winning all five World Cup encounters between the pair down the years, Pakistan have the confidence-booster of beating India in the final of the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy, also held in England back in 2017.

Perhaps the biggest fear on Sunday will be the weather, which has put a literal dampener on the tournament so far as several games have been washed out.

With the anticipation building, it would be something of an anticlimax – as well as a disaster for the organziers – if something as prosaic as the English summer rain spoiled what promises to be a colorful encounter.

But if the forecasted showers do hold off, it will be the latest saga in this great sporting rivalry, and for these two nations everything else will stop as all eyes are trained on a patch of grass in northwest England.

India’s leading sports channel may lose revenue of nearly INR 50 Crore if rain interrupts the much-awaited clash of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Star Sports and other sports channels have pinned high hopes with the India-Pakistan cricket match, charging millions for advertisements on the day the match will air.

Moreover, even the advertisement slots have already been sold out since the India-Pakistan match will be the most-watched contest of the tournament; big corporations view it as an excellent opportunity to achieve maximum outreach.

Star Sports is expected to earn the revenues of the Rs.137.5 crore from the India-Pakistan match only through advertisements. The channel has a total of 5500 seconds of advertisement slots, all of which have been sold out. The price for per-second advertisement has hiked to Rs. 2.5.

The sum insured for such events can range between Rs5 crore and Rs50 crore per match on average. Since it is a global large-scale event, the sum insured would be on a higher side.

The channel is now charging more than a 50% premium on last-minute ad buying, with a 10-second slot charging up to INR 25 lakhs. According to the weather report for Sunday, light showers are expected in the town, which means Star Sports may suffer heavy losses.

Star might end up incurring losses upward of Rs50 crore as the insurance covers only a certain percentage of the sum assured. “In the World Cup, matches involving India, Australia, Pakistan, and South Africa are important. If they get affected and the event is not able to maintain the tempo and excitement, there is a chance that advertisers may reduce their commitments,” a source inside Star Sports stated.

“The sum insured for such events can range between Rs5 crore and Rs50 crore per match on average. Since it is a global large-scale event, the sum insured would be on a higher side,” said Sanjay Datta, chief underwriting and claims, ICICI Lombard General Insurance.

Hence, the cancellation of the India-Pakistan match will not only be disappointing for fans, but those who bought tickets at premium prices for the broadcasters too.

NEW DELHI: The excitement around the one day international (ODI) match between India and Pakistan held on 16 June set new records online with micro blogging site Twitter registering a total of 2.9 million tweets. India continued its winning streak against Pakistan in the World Cup, wrapping up the match with 89 runs to spare in Manchester on Sunday.

While there was dialogue between both countries on the platform, Twitter said the Indian side dominated the conversation. The number of tweets by Indian fans using official hashtags such as #TeamIndia and #WeHaveWeWill and mentioning Indian cricketers overtook the number of tweets by Pakistani fans.

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, who also became the fastest player to achieve the milestone of 11,000 ODI runs, was the most tweeted-about player during the #INDvPAK match. Rohit Sharma, owing to his 24th century in ODIs, was the second most tweeted-about player, followed by Pakistan captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, all-rounder Shoaib Malik and wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar taking a wicket off his first World Cup ball provided the most tweeted-about moment from the match. Rohit Sharma’s innings of 140 runs; his second 100 of World Cup 2019, is the second most tweeted-about moment, following the rain interruption in the first half of the innings.

Rohit Sharma’s tweet Vande Mataram with his picture swinging his bat to the crowd as a gesture of thanks after his century became the most retweeted tweet from Sunday’s match.

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s reply to the official ICC tweet asking fans whether Sachin in 2003 or Rohit Sharma in 2019 performed better in the World Cup was the third most retweeted tweet. Tendulkar said, “We both are from INDIA and in this case, Aamchi Mumbai as well....So heads I win, tails you lose!"

The ICC Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan earlier this month was seen by 229 million viewers, 60% of the total number of viewers for the overall cricket tournament, according to viewership measurement agency BARC India. It was the most watched TV event of the league (World Cup) so far. A total of 381 million people have watched all the World Cup matches in the first three weeks of telecast, a statement from Star said.

The India-Pakistan match recorded 67 million impressions alone while all the World Cup matches have together notched up 311 million impressions.

Impressions refer to the number of individuals in thousands of a target audience who viewed an event, averaged across minutes.

The BARC numbers include viewership for channels on the Star network, the official broadcaster of the tournament as well as on Doordarshan’s free-to-air (FTA) direct-to-home platform DD Free Dish. The Star network has alone recorded 206 million viewers for the India-Pakistan match and 367 million viewers for the tournament overall till now.

The broadcaster has been telecasting all matches in seven languages, English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam. Last week, Star Sports 1 Hindi emerged as the second highest watched TV channel in the country across genres after Hindi general entertainment channel Dangal TV, with 763 million impressions.

Interestingly, according to an earlier Mint report, the India versus Pakistan match in Cricket World Cup 2015 was watched by 288 million viewers on various channels of the Star network and state broadcaster Doordarshan, according to TAM, the viewership agency that was active then. “The overall viewership number can only be used as a directional metric. The BARC data meters and the sample have changed considerably in the last five years. The one inference that would be largely correct is that there has been a decline in viewership. However, to quantify that the viewership has declined 25% may not be accurate deduction looking at the data," said Sandeep Goyal, chairman, Mogae Media.

“Any match involving India and Pakistan is not watched for its sporting performance only but for the sense of nationalism it evokes," said Ajit Gurnani, chief client officer at media agency Zenith India.

He added that it wouldn’t be fair to compare viewership of the present tournament to the previous one in 2015 given that measurement then was carried out by TAM (Television Audience Measurement) Media Research instead of BARC and matches were played in different time periods of the day.

To be sure, the latest BARC numbers show that the India-Pakistan numbers alone are quite close to the 269 million viewers across the country who had tuned into the matches over the opening week of the World Cup.

The inaugural week had recorded 107.2 million average impressions and a total of 180 million viewers had tuned in to watch India’s opening game against South Africa, which was held on 5 June.

The India-Pakistan numbers are significantly higher than the 127 million viewers who watched the Asia Cup in 2018 and only slightly lower than the 269 million viewers recorded during the ICC Final in 2017, both of which were played between the two countries. In India, the viewership for the tournament is significantly higher on the days when the Indian team is playing and has been boosted by its impressive performance.

Overall, the matches played by India in this World Cup have together garnered 321 million viewers and 150 million impressions, according to BARC. Forty-five percent of the entire viewership recorded by the World Cup matches played by India has been contributed by the India-Pakistan match.

It will be shown on Sky Sports Mix, channel 121 on Sky, which is available on Sky Go.

Hurray !

Hopefully it'll get big ratings. Cricket needs it here in UK.

As much as it's great news for those w/o Sky Sports subscription, this WC should've been on FTA throughout and not just the final. Shame Sky are so unashamedly monopolised.
