ICC World Cup 2023: Abdullah Shafique's amazing inning versus Sri Lanka

23 years old and already looks very promising in Tests.

Now Mashallah could really give be a trump card in ODIs aswell.

Not only has he got class and power but real intelligence and game awareness.

Very excited to see how he does in the next decade.

Shabash Boy!

Boi, NZ is reaching finals, you picked the wrong guy to bet with, I am the luckiest fortune Teller on the planet 😂😂.

BTW I wanna actually let you in on a secret. My only correct guess was saud cause I was following him.

The Abdullah and rizzu predictions I made in August, pure dumb luck lol 💀.

Shafique and Saud are class. If you know cricket it's obvious. Not sure if we have any others of this ability in domestics.

Always rated him high since his T20 ton in national t20 cup 3,4 years ago. The boy is special, a text book better. Even better technique than Babar. I want to see him playing for the next 12-15 years and make some records that he is very much capable of.

Don't make everything about yourself, boy. You didn't make a prediction, just backed an obviously talented player and he delivered today. Some of us have been backing him from back when all we'd seen of him was a mobile phone video of him practicing in the nets.

Ik their class, that's why I advocated for them. Saud I've watched for a long time.

Abdullah I got lucky because I knew Abdullah is class but I also know he's a confidence player like fakhar is even though he has better technique.

No confidence and Abdullah ceizes to function like fakhar does. That's why he got 4 ducks in t20 and I felt that since babar sisnt give him any practise games, opening him in WC means death.

But he was confident ig it didn't faze him

I'm not, Me and Glory made a bet with each other on if NZ will reach the finals or not and additional bets related to saud and Abdullah.

Ik others backed him including you. I'm just messing with the guy and the comment was addressed to him, not to you lol.

Babar is still unmatched in pace despite today's unfortunate dismissal.

Abdullah technique is better in spin.

But in terms of backfoot and front foot movement Abdullah is a class apart.

i wasnt confident about him as he lacks game experience, yet the innings he played was marvelous. That catch was unlucky, but to remove someone like him such a catch was needed to be taken.

It was his first list a century aswell. He played one of the best innings. For the first time ever, now Pakistan has 3 openers with all three competiting for a spot.

I said in another thread recently that he is a generational talent.

Hope he hits very lofty heights in his career and brings success for his family and country.

Oh yes, too bad this WC isn't happening on pacy tracks like '19 was :D
Missing Bobby Beast badly :(

Doubt it, Abdullah has secured his spot. Rizzu won't move from 4, nor should he, Too taxing to open + Keep 50 overs as well with no rest.

It'll between imam and fakhar and I think imam is being favoured a bit more despite horrible form as well

3 comparing for 2 spots*

Babar is unmatched in pace because that inswing that troubles alot of right handed batsmen and usually gets dismissals especially in the case of rohit sharma doesn't work on Babar.

He's class in playing that flick to leg for a 4. Theirs also the fact he has the best cover drive in the Pakistani circuit. It's unfair to say Abdullah has surpassed him just yet.

I saw how Abdullah played, he isn't on babars level yet, he is > 2016 Babar though.

He isn't, he's a solid bat and extremely good.

Generational talent is Saim ayub, Equal in technique but saim has far superior and natural stroke play, Although Abdullah has better temperament. Saim is rash.

Saim has done it in CPL so far.

Abdullah has won tests and a crunch ODI already in a short career

Put some respect on his name.

Once in a generational is going far. That's like identifying Gill or De Villiers Level talent which I don't think he'll be even in prime.

He'll be a great player no doubt. I'm not dissing him. I just don't think he'll reach gill's caliber.

Granted saim ayub to reach gill's caliber will require one heck of an effort but if saim ayub is groomed to world class, expect 200 match winning scores.

If Abdullah is groomed to world class then expect a very solid opener who can bat deep and has a 4th and 5th hear and can take the game away from you, but I don't see Abdullah ever reaching a 300 in test or out batting the opposition in odi.

Abdullah has already played better knocks than Gill in test cricket.

The dude was carried around as a passenger for 2 years because for once our set up identified talent and nurtured it.

His era is just beginning.

Ayt I'll trust you on this one broskie.

Superb innings and he seems like a really good lad.

That shot, you know which one I am talking about, just made my jaw drop.

Like how he didn't over-celebrate his century. Know the job was not done yet and he was unlucky to get out to a sensational catch.

Saim will be a dynamite player too btw.
What do you think about saim ayub and tayyab?

Saud, Abdullah, Saim and tayyab were the lads who I defended from troll when I came here.

Lol I guess time to add rizzu as well to the list.

Still gonna put imam on my hate list though.

Tayyab was treated a bit unfairly but I dont think he is cut from the same cloth as Abdullah or Saim.

Good rotation player thats it.

Abdullah is gonna dominate 3 formats of cricket for many years imo.

If Azhar Ali can do it then I'm sure he has a chance too.

Feels great to be vindicated in your confidence for a player. Have been saying since the opening stages of the asia cup that shafique should play more.

Hope this isn't a false dawn, hell I remember thinking Nasir Jamshed would be a mainstay for many years to come for his blazing start in ODIs before he crashed and burned. But the guy also has test cred behind him and a solid technique so hopefully he will go far.

Good inning today by him and Rizwan, but keep in mind it came against the weakest bowling attack in the tournament after Pakistan & on a very flat placid pitch.

Read test will be against India, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia and especially on spinning tracks.

Remember when people wanted him to be dropped after 8-9 bad innings in Tests? lolz

Lad has serious talent and I think he even has potential to be in T20's eventually (down the road). He's flashed power potential in PSL and we saw some of that today in ODI's too. Going to be a great future all-format player IMO.

He has absolutely blown me out the water with that knock, absolutely stunning. I was a fan but I never realised how many gears he had coupled with that steely composure and temperament. He's a star, the Fakhar-Imam era is over.

Once you are technically good, you can be good in any phase of the game and in any situation. Unlike Fakhar, Adbullah has great technique which is why he can stay on the wicket for a long time, get settled and then hit some attacking shots as well.

As I’ve said elsewhere - it was good to see an authoritative innings from a Pakistani player after a long time.

Babar even when he plays well looks weak and doesn’t give off the dominant factor

Rizwan is normally just battling away to stay in

Abdullah batted with authority and an air of confidence that has been missing.

He and rizzu shut everyone up today(Including me) that's for sure. Goated innings today.

Hard to not respect it.
I always Said Abdullah should be opening and not batting down the order because he does take time to get set and he technically is solid.

This. He was cool and didnt overact after scoring a 100. He knew the job was not done yet. There are also players performing all kind of celebrations after crossing 50.

Neither of them are generational talents, folks like you throw that term so easily around.

Saim couldnt score a run to save his life against zimbabwe of all teams. CPL is third class. He needs to do better.

Glad to see Abdullah performing, have been backing him from quite a while. I remember how some posters questioned my support for him in the squad selection thread. Good to see those answered. What i love about him is that he has an extra gear. He is being underutilised in the test team by forcing him to tuk tuk unnecessarily.

That was a brilliant knock full of self belief. And he's not even played 10 list a games. He's truly a great prospect.
Ideally he should have replaced Imam not Fakhar
