ICC World Cup 2023: Glenn Maxwell's incredible 201*(128) leads Australia (293/7) to a fantastic 3-wicket win against Afghanistan (291/5)

Indians can chase and get knocked out.
If India fields first they will try to restrict them as much as possible. Against Afghans chasing 270, Rohit imposed himself with clean cricketing shots negating any swing.

Now no one can complain about spinning pitch as all four wickets were out by Pacers

These conditions demanded test match style batting and weathering the storm for the first 15 overs

Australia is an overrated side (especially their batting). India should not worry facing them in semis or finals or whatever... In fact a champion side should not bother whoever in front of them...

Exactly things would have been much easier after 12-15 overs but now a days batsmen hardly can handle the pressure

We all know the answer, need to play the yaari-dosti picks first like Imam, Shadab and Nawaz. Realise they're mince and then play the merit picks later in the tournament when we're on the fringes of going out.
Half the forum hated the thought of wasim jnr playing. I wanted him from the very beginning at number 8. Shame he only came in late

Afghanistan is having a go at Australia. I like this.

Pakistan would had done 10 hugs and would had shifted there whole dressing room outside to the dugout to cater to these guys.

Hopefully NZ take 4th spot, there’s no way Afghanistan will want to beat India in a SF World Cup…dosti yaari

Labu is being a fruitcake about the sight screen.

No other batter is having issue. Only him.

I think chasing under lights has been very unique , different in Chennai Kolkata and Mumbai, there needs to be belief and skill.

Only Blore has been static with huge scores
Wrong , brother @JaDed Even Bangalore had a spongy bounce surface where England were bowled out for 160.

The conditions across venues and these new kookaburras have combined to ensure a lot of unpredictability.

Any team that has looked to play only 1 particular way has got stuffed at various times.

Only India has adapted very rapidly to every venue at least so far.

My prediction coming out to be true.

Afg going to win this. By a huge margin.

To be fair Afg has played a lot better than Pak in this tournament and on merit they deserve to be in the semifinal ahead of us.

However, still the heart wants Pak there in the semi despite knowing we don’t deserve it.

We probably won’t make it either now and Afg might beat SA the chokers too.

AUS - 52/4 (10 overs).

Rashid and Noor are yet to bowl. Dew will stay away hopefully.

Is india not using sg balls?

Probably should take Rauf's place so we're not losing a guaranteed 90 runs off one bowler.

If afg bat first they will destroy SA. Choking bunch of losers.

A lot of credit goes to Jonathan Trott for whipping the Afghan boys into match winners...if anyone in PCB had any sense, they would try to poach him and kick out Mickey "They didn't play Dil Dil Pakistan" Arthur out of the coaching set-up...Trott looks a hard taskmaster which is what we need...

SA only choke in extreme pressure situations or knockouts. Afghan match will be a dead rubber for them and there NRR is so high that they will be placed at 3 irrespectively.

Ah I must have misremembered, I thought there were a lot of 300+ chases on here
Yea I am confused. I was always told wankhede is a small ground. Easy to smash. But only 280 Max was chased? Makes no sense. I know there is spongy bounce but no real movement off the pitch.

Coaching a small team and coaching a big team is hell of a difference.

If Pakistan was coached to bat at a runrate of 4 till 40th over and than attack at 10, people here would go crazy and say remove that person from captain.

Whatmore had success with Sri Lanka but did not have the save success with other teams.

Afg pacers are getting some movement off the surface. Not like what Indian bowlers got. But just enough to trouble Aus batsman.

Based on Afghanistan's performance so far in this WC they are most deserved team for the 4th SF spot. They have already defeated 2 former WC Champions and 1 reigning champion. If they win today they will be taking down another WC winner. It will be a watershed moment in their cricketing history like 1983 was for India.

Us reaching the semifinal just keeps on getting tougher.

Now I am stuck to the TV to ensure Australia win so we dont have to rely on South Africa as well

I am done. Why can't any Pakistan team win it's own matches?

Huh what's fun in that :afridi

This have been no fluke campaign

Afghanistan team has a lot of raw talent they are gonna be a very good team they have more talent and potential than pakistan.

Are Afghan slip fielders and keeper standing too far? They should come up a bit.

If Afg win this, it will be their best and biggest ever win against a big team and that too at the biggest stage with so much riding on it.

I never realised just how hard it is to bat under the lights in Wankhede

AFG reminds me of Pakistan of early years, bat pateintly until blazing at the end and bowlers built pressure to get batsman out, classic old style steel cricket

Afghanistan need to get maxwell early and rest will fold. Hope they win it from here

Lol

They are standing far back like it's bumrah or starc bowling 138 to 145. Afghans bowl 128-133. Come closer lol

I agree.

Maxwell could've been gone first ball had keeper been standing closer. Another one dropped short last over.

3.0 degree swing. That's crazy. The conditions have been beyond comprehension this worldcup. Unplayable bowling by not so great bowlers.

Imagine someone having bet on this
Can still do it. Bet on them winning vs SA and making top 4? Lol.

My standings were aus india pakistan and SA initially. Guess my team won't make it and I am happy for Afghans if they make it as they destroyed us.

Naveen apart from his speeds has been impressive. He always looked decent to me even in ipl in the few games that i watched. Any reason he is retiring?

too focus on t20 cricket and make easy money while bowling less overs.

Franchise cricket perhaps.

Many players are ditching international cricket for pajama cricket.

Cant Blame him. Won't be surprised if we see t20 franchise played all year round. Players can make millions in ipl

Kept saying this. Indian conditions and wickets are nothing like PAK wickets where it's either flat and quick or flat and slow in Pakistan.

Here, the conditions vary much more over the course of a match , let alone across venues.

I think, all the SENA teams have adopted the ODI formula of England 2019, which was very effective in 2019 context - absolute batting belters with zero swing, seem or spin for the modified balls used, smaller squire boundary and very little dew in D/N games.

But, that formula is back firing big time on wickets with a little in it for all types of bowlers and ball is moving lot in first 10-12 overs under light. Aussies have dropped a batsman like Smith to accommodate Mitch (or Stoinis), which tells that they didn’t consider the requirement of playing out 50 overs. All four of them picked just one player each based on 50 overs in mind (Root, Will, Simth/Labu, RvdD), rest are on SR basis.

yes, this is england

Waking up to see such a spirited performance from Afghans.

Need a wicket of Maxwell before he settles down (also the wicket of Stoinis, who has the knack of scoring quick fire big runs in crucial games).

Bounce on some of the surfaces are remotely comparable. Some of them can be bouncy like Australian pitches.

They dropped Smith because Smith is suffering from vertigo and was struggling in the nets

Come on mate. I'm just being real here.

Naveen, Azmat etc aren't great bowlers. It's moving like crazy here and that too for 10+ overs.
Bro, Azmat does provide swing, he has rubbish line and length.

Naveen is a very mature bowler and has been playing on Indian wickets for 2-3 years now.

Thing is, you dont need to bowl pace here, use the seam and get the right line, it willl do wonders.

Concur.

Most teams have been simply unable to understand the conditions. I'm personally bamboozled too.

This is why it is important to cover all the bases. . India vs Pakistan match had the least degree of swing of all the matches. Siraj immediately reverted to scrambled seam.

Maxwell usually struggles against the leg spinners.

Hope Rashid comes in a bit early, tonight.
