ICC World Cup 2023: Heartbreak for Pakistan (270) as South Africa (271/9) win Match 26 by 1 wicket

credit to PCT....they have fought like lions in this match...they almost pulled a win out of nowhere
 
Well played Pakistan. Tough luck. Things would have been different had the umpire given it out in rauf's last over. Sometimes the rub of the green don't go your way. But atleast the fans can be proud that the team fought hard. If only they had batted their full quota of overs things could have been different.
 
Babar & Mickey are so, so clueless ….

Why, why you should use 5/6 overs of Rauf with new ball … Why!!! This game would have been win with just two more overs from Rauf at the end.

PAK is all but out & congrats SAF - almost certain to finish in top 2 now
 
Brilliant match, commiserations to the PCT team fans. Was rooting for you guys, just to keep the WC alive for the next 2 weeks. Alas!
 
Today it hurts cause Pakistan fought hard . The Afghan win didn’t hurt me . But today Pakistan gave it all . Arghhhh mental midget Nawaz

Cmon man, it seemed close but not 100%. Damn heartbreaking for Pakistan, it was really their game the way they pulled back.

I am not sure if there is a way to come back now
 
Wow what a match… absolutely cliff hanger….. SA throw away chokers tag… no shame for PCT as they lost this fighting
 
Well played Pakistan. They deserved to win this one.

The Saffers, well. What a bunch of miserable chokers! They are going to be thrashed by India and NZ, and will probably stay on 10 points.

It was a good watch, Pak were never winning this cup so entertainment is great.

Tbf Pak and Saffers both went to the final wicket, unlike Arteta bottling the league weeks before. :arteta

Mir had picked up two already yet you go with a guy who has even gave away 16+ in a final over before :facepalm:
 
Pakistan spice up world tournaments only to give morale boost to the teams that actually win.
 
More humiliation should follow, if babar is hell bent on playing his friends nawaz and imam...I am praying that loose to bangladeah as well...any team would have won from this situation.. Even southafrica didn't believe that they could win this...
 
Poor captancy by Babar cost them this match. He did not attack when 5 wickets were down. He also randomly bring his spinners and releases pressure. Also not finishing their quota of overs cost them big..

good result for SAF. they needed this..

“bottled” the league but still finished 30 points above the German fraud with two major titles in 9 years. :klopp
 
Good game, only if that LBW was given. Nawaz is such a lousy player, have never liked him either as a bowler or batsman. Threw away his wicket when he could have easily added 10-15 more runs.

Pakistan bowled brillianty overall. Only if batters had applied themselves better, SA wouldn't have been able to chase down, even extra 10 runs would have been great. Pakistan should aim to win the rest of the games, regardless of scenario. WC is over for Pakistan, enjoy the rest of the games and leave with atleast good wins.
 
The thing that I hate, is that Pakistan team played so well today. Credit to wasim, Credit to Rauf and shaheen.

It shows the thing that they were lacking was confidence in bowling.

However the issue remains. History repeats itself. Nawaz the chocker vs India and nawaz the chocker vs South Africa. What a disgrace to the Pakistan cricket team.

They can't win world cup. They just can't chase. Not taking anything away from I credible bowling by Pak pacers, this is a sorry bunch of tail enders. Even Bumrah and Shami can whack a few under the pump
 
Made a fist of it but ultimately this only served to magnify how poor we are. Extras, line and length, no frontline spinner, meek batting, collapses - all on display again.

Better but nowhere near deserving and we got exposed - 4 losses on the bounce solidifies the underwhelming nature of our performance in the WC.

Chalo. I like SA and want them or NZ to prosper.
 
The wicket had a lot of help for seamers which kept Pakistan in the game right till the end. But gotta say South africans played reckless shots when the asking rate was 4.8 or something

Goes either way. The other LBW of Rassie van der Dussen that was way too close with 2/3 being umpire's call was given to us after all.

Once in a blue moon , Holland can beat South Africa and Leicester can win the league.

When Arteta wins the same silverware as Klopp he may be taken seriously by people who know football. :klopp
 
Babar’s trust in Nawaz comes to fruition again.

Even if we had more runs and Nawaz got hit for 6 sixes, Babar would still play him for the next 10 years. He never learns this stubborn buffoon.

Could’ve brought Imad but ofc, he needs his ego untouched.

But I don’t think SA are taking this WC. If minnow level Pakistan did this, NZ and India are sending them back .

They'll get the living daylights trashed out of them by India and NZ, and even lose to Afghanistan.
 
Hard Luck Pakistan. That was a great comeback. And what a performance.

And that umpires call LBW... sometimes the margins make this a very cruel game.
 
Poor captaincy by Babar to allow singles when they were not trying to hit boundaries.
 
To be fair SA tried their best to choke. But poor quality spin attack bailed SA out. An ace spinner there would have won the game long back.

Agreed. No problem in losing like this, yes there were mistakes, but we were fighting hard for the win. It’s not a match like this let us down it was the really bad last 3 matches..

SA win but the ghosts of past still intact. They need a professional chase to get over it. Tough luck for Pakistan.
