ICC World Cup 2023: Pakistan (205/3) end their losing streak with a convincing victory over Bangladesh (204) by 7 wickets

Rizwan as always is a clutch player in any position in any situation. Only if he had power of Ifti and timing of Fakhar for hitting 6s.

one thing I’ve noticed from Shantos and Tanzids body language is that they are not bothered at all about their batting because they know
they will play the remaining 2 games regardless, as there’s no replacement in the squad

If NZ wins tomorrow then pakistan will be out or what?
We are already out realistically but i am happy that Babar captaincy is over and we got rid of Dosti selection and likes of Imam, Nawaz, and Usama mir will not play for Pakistan anymore after WC.

Pakistan could've chased this down faster but it is still a significant NRR boost.

If SA beat NZ badly, Pakistan's NRR can get even closer to NZ's NRR.

Babar's selfish pathetic innings slowed down the chase by atleast 5 overs..Chacha and Co struggling to finish the job, what a bunch of useless fellows.

Looks like the Pak analyst sitting there in dugouts are there for playing Pacman on that HP Elitebook, surprised to see that this team is not at all concerned about their NRR even when they are in such a good condition 😂

If NZ wins tomorrow then pakistan will be out or what?
No
If they loose to srilanka
Or
If South Africa looses to India
Or
australia looses two of their remaining matches
Net runrate comes to equation in all above scenarios given Pakistan wins both the remaining matches.

Slow chase finally completed. Iftikhar was playing for a draw here but he managed to get across the line. Congrats, I guess……

Pakistan not deserving for semi finals.
Look at their approach for last 16 runs. Both player were playing like test match. Not even was trying to keep the runrate positive. Shame on them

I've noticed some of the Bangladesh players are adopting the same beards with the moustache trimmed off. Does it have anything to do with a group infiltrating their dressing room by any chance?

opposite- these players were forced to “look like secular” in their appearance, words …. Just that everyone have reached their limit, and don’t care for much now.

This chacha guy is a fraudster like shahid afridi. But atleast afridi won us many matches by his bowling skills

Congrats PAK for the win - would have loved had the torture ended earlier.

Now over to Kiwis …. To self destruct themselves.

That is why i want Harris Shoail is the team if not Sarfarz. Harris Sohail plays spin far batter than current line up. Of course he need fitness but it can be solved.

Good win.

Now it's over to South Africa. At least, tomorrow's game is going to be a fascinating watch regardless of the result.

Shame on Babar for not picking Fakhar ahead of the useless Imam earlier

What it could have been 😔

Dude is bona-fide Alllu (potato) he should stick to keep eating his allu biryani because he's not serious plyer

I know when world cup started Fakhar was out of form, but he is a top gun player and match winner, they should have backed him, I am sure out of the 4 games we lost, he would have come good atleast for 1 one the games, which would mean we could have won one of those games and it would help with our cause as well.

I knew he would do well on these pitches in India

Lol run rate still -0.024 and they want to catch NZ no chance
Possible if Pakistan manages to win like today against newzealand than one match is enough to reduce the gap considerably as it will have double effect..or hope some other team beats them heavily..

Congrats Pak on a Clinical Win against Bangaldesh at Eden Gradens . Whether Pak makes it into the Semi Finals or not but definitrely this Win will bosst their confidence and they must look to win the next games also in the same manner . All the best to them .

Won’t - the tournament is in later stage. NRR works on weighted average basis means to improve NRR over one game, which was damaged in six, it’ll take much higher pull.

In fact, PAK won’t beat Kiwis…. Don’t get fooled by this win over some pathetic losers ….. even then, had FZ got out inside first PP, PAK would have taken it to 45th over with 5/6 down!!!! He just robbed away with the game - something will be difficult to repeat against Kiwis, they’ll get him out, if he tries to.

Pakistan is all about momentum with chief maulvi gone and nephew on the bench , pakistan can win against new Zealand and England.

Appreciate the effort Ramiz puts into his English but damn is he unnecessarily loquacious - makes for a difficult listen!

Good win for the boys. Too little, too late. Still crashing out before the semis unfortunately.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh in Kolkata to achieve their third win of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan cruised to a comfortable seven-wicket win in a game that finished in the 33rd over of their innings. Fakhar Zaman (81) and Abdullah Shafique (68) starred for them with authoritative fifties against Bangladesh.

In the first innings, Shaheen Afridi (3/23), Mohammad Wasim (3/31), and Haris Rauf (2/36) were the pick of Pakistan bowlers, as the pacers rallied together for the Men in Green to bowl Bangladesh all out for a modest total. For Bangladesh, Mahmudullah (56) and Shakib Al Hasan (43) showed fight with the bat.

Match 31: Pakistan won by seven wickets against Bangladesh

Fakhar Zaman showed relentless form in the first Powerplay. The southpaw smacked four boundaries for Pakistan in this period. This included two exemplary sixes off the bowling of Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, respectively.

He got good support from his partner, Abdullah Shafique, who hit four stylish fours of his own in the first 10 overs.

Zaman and Shafique continued to make the most of a decent batting wicket and a good outfield. They churned out a series of fours and sixes as the Bangladesh shoulders dropped. Five sixes were added in the overs 11-20, as the duo added 72 runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz finally brought a breakthrough for Pakistan in the 22nd over, when he trapped Abdullah Shafique leg before for 68. However, Fakhar and Babar Azam ensured that Pakistan were right on track.

After the mid-innings mark, Mehidy struck twice to remove both Fakhar and Babar, but by then Pakistan were already well set to overtake the Bangladesh target.

In the first innings, Pakistan were right on the mark courtesy an incisive spell from Shaheen Afridi. He pinned Tanzid Hasan leg before off the fifth ball of the game. The batter reviewed, but it turned out that the ball was clipping the top of his leg stump.

In the very next over, Shaheen had the out-of-form Najmul Hossain Shanto caught at forward square leg. Usama Mir took a sharp catch at the position to give Pakistan their second breakthrough.

Litton Das tried to pick up the pace for Bangladesh with a flurry of boundaries against Haris Rauf. However, it was the pacer who had the last laugh, when he got the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim to nick one behind the wicket.

Mushfiqur was replaced by the in-form veteran Mahmudullah, who ensured that the Tigers didn't get too bogged down by the early damages.

After the first Powerplay, Das and Mahmudullah took charge and hit a stream of boundaries. Their intent was backed by some erratic Pakistan bowling. The duo went at almost six an over between overs 11-20.

Against the run of play, Das gifted his wicket to Iftikhar Ahmed after he chipped one of his deliveries to the mid-wicket fielder.

Bangladesh batted conservatively over the next few overs, as Shakib Al Hasan tried to get in. Just when the batters looked like they were getting set, Mahmudullah (56) was cleaned up by a beauty from Shaheen.

Newcomer Tawhid Hridoy went gung-ho quite early in his innings, hitting a six off his second ball. However, this daredevilry cost him his wicket off the very next ball, as he nicked Usama Mir to the first slip.

Bangladesh finally picked up once more, when Shakib hit a hat-trick of boundaries in the 37th over against Iftikhar Ahmed.

However, any hopes of a Bangladesh resurgence ended when Shakib mistimed a pull off Haris Rauf and fell for 43. Bangladesh managed to cross the 200-run mark at the back of a stand between Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed, but strikes from Mohammad Wasim soon ended their time at the crease.

Shakib Al Hasan opted to bat first after winning the toss. He believed that the pitch was dry, just the way it was in their last encounter against the Netherlands, and would offer turn. They made one change to the side that fell short against the Dutch – Mahedi Hasan was replaced by Tawhid Hridoy.

Pakistan, on the other hand, went in with three changes. Fakhar Zaman, Salman Agha and Usama Mir were in for Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan.

Bright starts for Pakistan and Bangladesh have all but faded away as both sides barely remain in contention for the knockout stage of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.

Pakistan opened their campaign with convincing victories over Netherlands and Sri Lanka but are now on a four-match losing streak that has left little margin for error in the race for a semi-final berth.

A fifth loss on the trot for the 1992 champions when they face Bangladesh would essentially end their hopes of progressing further even with two matches still to play, though a win here would boost Pakistan's hopes of a late surge through the tournament.

Bangladesh are in an even more precarious position as they sit just above the last spot in the standings with only two points from a win over Afghanistan in their tournament opener.

While form might be lacking after five consecutive defeats, Shakib Al Hasan's outfit can turn to Bangladesh's first-ever ODI victory over Pakistan for inspiration, when they won their clash at the Cricket World Cup in 1999 by 62 runs.

That was one of only five victories that Bangladesh have secured in 38 ODIs against Pakistan who have all but dominated their encounters.

The most recent match-up in the format came in the Super Four stage of the recent Asia Cup when Pakistan strengthened their hold on the head-to-head record with a seven-wicket win.

I think topspin is referring to Mushfiq and Riyad's beards

They are married to 2 sisters, so sometimes the whole family turns towards a certain path, in which case maybe 2 Brother in laws would also join to not feel left out

Too little too late IMHO. Damage is been done, should have won against SA and Afg, most likely lose against NZ and think England is going to get one good game for sure.

At last, a decent win for PCT. Had they finished at least 5 overs earlier, the NRR would have jumped further north.

Good job, nevertheless.

In T20s , yes...but RizBar won't let it happen unless Babar loses his captaincy
It won't happen if Babar loses captaincy only for Rizwan to be appointed. Only someone outside the clique can dare To break this entire RizBar farce that has run it's course a long time ago.

Which is why I am advocating for Imad Wasim to lead the T20 team...be ruthless and play according to the team needs if it means breaking the RizBar opening partnership and slot in Fakhar/Saim there...

Babar Azam Post Match:

“All credit to the boys and the way we are playing,”

“We know when Fakhar is playing its a different ball game. So he played his natural game and all the pressure is on their team. Good to see him.

“We are trying to win the next two matches and let’s see where we stand. We will try to add those wins and confidences in the next few matches.

“We started well, the way Shaheen started by taking wickets, it took them 15 or 20 overs to build a partnership and we recalled our main bowlers and they took more wickets.

“All bowlers are trying to give us one hundred percent.”

I'm eager to hear Mr. "I'm an automatic selection" speak up. He'll likely stay silent until he gets his opportunity (hopefully not), scores an insignificant half-century. We should always go with our match-winners, and Fakhar is one of them, deserving more support. It's hard to believe that "parchi" was chosen over him.The team looks different without Imam and Nawaz. Undercooked Usama is still a weak link. Bring on Abrar by any means possible if it means shutting down Imam or Shadab for the whole world cup. Also I didn't see Imam in the dug out , probably crying and praying Fakhar to get out cheaply.

Not the best day to tell that to me bro - our captain went to Hasina for a nomination just before WC, to be another voter less MP …..
Can't blame the "poor chap", he is only walking on the footsteps of his predecessor, the one & only, you know who....

Half hour away FLIGHT from Dhaka.

It makes no difference. BD still suck wherever they play.
You are wrong, they play like royality in Mirpur just like Babar becomes invincible in the carpet roads of Lahore, Pindi etc.

Well everyone is praising Fakhar, I would suggest to hold your horses until the next game, and all of us be looking for a new opener again, as of now Abdullah seems to have cemented his place but his SR is still a bit low, playing this many balls, it should definitely be over 110 or so.

31 October - Kolkata - Pakistan player Fakhar Zaman post-match press conference

[Reporter:]

Converting from Fakhre Zaman to Fakhri Eden. You could have been the Fakhri Eden by scoring a century here where Nasir Jamshed did the same. So, what do you say?

[Fakhar Zaman:]

Exactly, but the situation we are in at the moment, so we were looking to chase it like in 28, 29 overs, so that's why I was just going. Otherwise, it was very easy for me to get to the 100 after 50, but our goal was to achieve the target within like 30 or 29 overs.

[Reporter:]

Just wanted to know – your bowling unit, especially the pace bowlers, bowled short to Shakib Al Hasan – was that an intentional plan against him? Because he is getting out from short balls?

[Fakhar Zaman:]

To be honest I don't know exactly about that but whenever we are playing against Bangladesh most of the time, we plan for the bouncer so maybe that's the captain and bowlers’ plan but I'm not sure about that.

[Reporter:]

What hopes do you have to go to the semi-final after losing 4 games? What is the mood in the camp?

[Fakhar Zaman:]

In the World Cup, each win gives you confidence and we were waiting for this win. We are on the ifs and buts right now - but we will try to win both the matches with good run rates. Our target is the semi-final and we will try for that.

[Reporter:]

You mentioned a few days ago that you were working on the side lines and you felt that your batting was improving. We are also looking at the bowlers and they are able to use the conditions better. Do you think that the team will move into the execution phase and you have collected the data now about the conditions here.

[Fakhar Zaman:]

Absolutely. When you spend some time in any place, you get an idea of the conditions – for both the bowlers and batters. It’s like that. And if you look at the way we played in the beginning, we play like we play in Pakistan. Here, our fast bowlers are trying to have more accuracy. In Pakistan, when you use more pace, you get more success. Here if you bowl more accurately, they will score less.

[Reporter:]

After sitting out for 6 matches, when you came in today, we noticed your hunger. So, can we say that the best of Fakhar Zaman is yet to come now in these last two matches of this stage of the tournament?

[Fakhar Zaman:]

Absolutely. The way I was batting in the nets, you get the idea that the ball is coming well. And if I tell you the truth, the way India's wickets are, for batsmen, if they play 3 or 4 overs, I think it's easy to make runs - after playing 3 or 4 overs for the batsmen. The boundaries are also not that big.

I will try to perform well in the next two matches so our team can win.

[Reporter:]

You were suffering from an injury - [inaudible]

[Fakhar Zaman:]

My injury was such that I could have played any time. If the team needed me, I could have joined at any time. I didn’t have a severe injury. We were just taking a precaution, and I could have joined the team whenever I was needed.

Now that I have got the chance, I will try to contribute to the team's success.

[Fakhar Zaman:]

Of course, an India and Pakistan match is a very big deal. If I say it doesn't make a difference, I would be wrong. But all the players are professional and have played a lot of cricket. Even against India, they have played a lot of matches. So, you can't say anything like that. But I think if you look at our rhythm, we have made a comeback in batting and in bowling – like if you see in our previous match against South Africa. This is a combination.

I hope that you will see the same in this match and also in the next. I am part of this dressing room since the past 8 years, so I feel that the more we play, the more we will improve.

[Reporter:]

Today Pakistan played one bowler less and one batter more. Iftikhar had to bowl 10 overs. Are they bringing the same combination with New Zealand?

[Fakhar Zaman:]

Only the captain will tell you about that. But Iftikhar Ahmed is bowling 7 to 8 overs in every match, maybe because he is playing the role of a bowler, the captain and coach must have thought that already Iftikhar is bowling 7 to 8 overs then why not make him do 10 overs, because now even Salman can bowl.

Too little too late IMHO. Damage is been done, should have won against SA and Afg, most likely lose against NZ and think England is going to get one good game for sure.

Yep all this talk of NRR is very nice, but Pakistan camp was mainly looking to secure the win first and foremost. Then if (and it's a big if) they win their remaining games, they can go home with heads held high. The loss to SA was the killer blow, but might as well fight on while there's even a small chance.
