Screw everything! Just enjoy the World Cup, the biggest cricket carnival that comes once in 4 years. Just wish the tournament to be a massive success with awesome matches and awesome performances from the players.

P.S. Also wish that rain doesn't play spoilsport.

100%. I may be pessimistic about Pakistan's chances but I'm going to cheer my heart out for them and go crazy every time a boundary is scored or a wicket is taken. Gonna watch as many matches as I can and hoping for some good cricket and a great competition. I just wish matches didn't start at 4 in the morning here but what can you do

Yeah in the US - have to wake up at 3.30am in the morning to watch these - a pain. Atleast all the big games or most are on the weekends.. we Indian supporters will be ribbing the Pakistan supporters here in Texas and vice versa lol !

For me it starts at 1:30 am, absolute pain

Highest run scorer: Babar Azam
Highest wicket taker: Shaheed Shah Afridi
Highest batting strike rate: Jos Buttler
Highest batting average: Babar Azam
Best bowling average: Mitchell Starc

Here is my realistic prediction:

Highest Run Scorer: Rohit Sharma/Labuschagne
Highest Wicket Taker: Kuldeep Yadav/Wellalage
Most Catches: Quinton D'kock
Highest batting SR: Buttler
Highest batting Avg: Virat Kohli
Best bowling Avg: Aadil Rashid/Hazzlewood
Best bowling figure in tournament: Haris Rauf
Highest score in an inings: Rohit Sharma
Best youngster: Shubman Gill and Wellalage

Players to watch out apart from these:

1. Gurbaz
2. Babar
3. Shaheen
4. Siraj
5. Mehdi Hassan Miraj
6. Cameron Green
7. Klaasen

There's pessimistic and then there's absurd...you think Pakistan will lose 7 world cup games lol

That's fair, my prediction is leaning towards that. I can see us pulling off a win against Sri Lanka or Afghanistan to get us to 3 wins which is slightly more realistic. When I went match by match for Pakistan, considering the forms of both teams it got difficult for me to pick Pakistan sometimes.

Highest run scorer: Babar Azam

As pakpassion deteriorates into melodrama and race baiting/jingoism from indians and self hating pakistani i thought id bring back some cricket discussion.

I wanted to use this thread to track what i think are the best batting and bowling performances in the world cup so far:

Batting
Shafique century v SL
Rizwan century v SL
QDK century v Aus

Bowling
Bumrah 2for v Pakistan
Henry 3for v England
Santner 5for v Ned

Santner is probably also the best all round cricketer in the cup so far.

Well it took just one day but i have to change my bowling top 3. Mujeebs 3for against england goes top and kicks out Santners 5for.

It was a remsrkable spell and the way he set barsmen up with change sun pace, dip and line was brilliant!

At the moment, it is very likely that you are not going to get too many right.

Santner has increased his wickets tally to 11 after his 3 wickets today against Afghanistan.

Mitchell Santner still leading the table as the highest wicket taker in the tournament. Shaheen joint third after his 5 wickets today.

Excluding IND-NZ match that is going on currently, so far in 20 match in this WC, 283 runs is the key number.
Out of 10 matches when a team batting first scored more than 283 runs, they won in 9 and lost only one.

Pakistan is the only team that has been able to chase 283+ score.
Metherlands has been the only team able to to defend any score below 283 in 10 matches for the teams batting first.

1697982744087.png

300+ total were scored 7 times in the first innings but only three times in 2nd innings.
Pakistan in the only team that has scored 300+ runs twice batting 2nd.

Teams winning the toss and batting has lost all six matches.
In other 14 matches where team won the toss and fielded first, only 4 out of 14 wins.

So basically, winning the toss has resulted in only 4 wins out of 20 ODIs so far.

This is the weirdest stat 😳.. I am surprised no one has talked about it at all.
Only india and NZ have made the right calls so far.

So, an update to what I think are the best performances so far:

Batting
Shafique still at the top
Rizwan still a solid second
Warner's brutal hitting against Pakistan takes the 3rd place

Bowling
Shaheen's 5for on an entirely dead pitch clearly the best performance of the tourney so far
Shami pops straight into second place, those two wickets in his second spell were brilliant reverse
Bumrah just about stays in with his 2 against Pak

Pakistan winning the toss and batting today vs Afghanistan.
No team has been able to win after winning the toss and battin in this WC yet.

Quinton de Kock races at the top of the run scoring chart. At this rate, he is likely to score over a thousand runs in this World Cup that is very likely to be his last ODI World Cup. He is retiring with a BANG.

1698168896256.png

Of the 23 games completed so far, 12 have been won by the team chasing, which feeds into the theory that under lights you MUST chase in these conditions.

"Well, 11 matches have been won by the team defending and that's not a big difference!" I hear you shout...well 7 of those games were between a top level, traditional power house v an associated nation.

My original predictions:

Highest run scorer: Virat Kohli
Highest wicket taker: Jasprit Bumrah
Most catches: Mohammad Rizwan
Highest batting strike rate: Hardik Panyda
Highest batting average: Shubman Gill
Best bowling average: Shaheen Shah Afridi

Looks like I'm not doing too well in some of those.

How about this?
