What's new

If an Asian batsman would have scored three tons in a five-match series in SA?

Doesn't matter,he has to perform in tournaments, for now Sachin and Yuvi are way ahead of him.

You just lost all credibility there.
By the same token was Zaheer Khan a better bowler than Waqar Younis?

Virat is best odi batsman in the world by a country mile though I still rate AB a bit higher than him.Virat can retire the greatest odi batsman of all time.

No but he was better than Srinath ,compared Kohli to Indian batsmen. Also Sachin and Yuvi consistently performed in ICC tournaments.

And Waqar will always be below Wasim and Imran for similar reasons although he is above Aqib because one tournament can happen but consistency is important across tournaments.

Like 2014 WT20 FINAL?

His worst performance by far but no 2007 WC and 2011 WC. Kohli has had two ODI WCs already and nothing substantial except the ton against Pak.

It also took Yuvi multiple attempt to get better at World cup. He did absolute nothing in 2003 and 2007 World cups. I cant still forget how Tailenderish Yuvi was in WT20 Final. Kohli is 10x the batsman Yuvi ever was in his peak.

And if you’re talking about KO games in WC then even in 2011 WC semi Yuvi choked (1st ball duck) and in Final he came to bat when game was pretty much secured with Dhoni-Gambhir partnership. So, even Yuvi have no proven track record in WorldCup KO games.

Tbf no,he is a middle order batsman and in 2003 he scored 50 against Pak, 42 against England. And feel like its more selector's fault than Yuvi's ,he shouldn't had been selected after battling cancer,he was never good enough after that.

Yuvi was the top batsman in 2007 T20 WC (Kohli has outdid him in T20s) and Man of the series 2011 WC (this is where Kohli is not near anywhere yet.

He was bowling well in those games and lets not forget QF against Aus is also KO.

Changing goal post now eh?

Your original comments were based on batting skills alone, and you said Kohli is behind Yuvi. Ofc as an allrounder Yuvi is far ahead we know that. Lets only focus on batting only.

Yuvi got MOS purely as an Allrounder which Kohli isnt. Also, if Yuvi wasnt any good post cancer then he should’ve gracefully retired rather than making a mockery of his selection and costing India a certain WT20 title. To make it worst, he came back to Indian team months later only costing India more glory. Such a sore loser, im glad he is rightfully dumped for good.

That's my bad my original post had nothing to do about batsmen but my second post did, good catch. So yes lets take it as a player.

Sachin wasn't good after 2011 too and he was never gonna play 2015 WC but still carried on,its very hard for players to retire on their own, very few we know do that, time will tell if Kohli does it.

And you are right about all rounder and Batsman comparison.

Kohli to have one or two good knocks in KO games in ICC CT. In 2013 CT final it was his knock that was difference between Winner and runner up. In 2017 CT Semi he played solid knock in defeating BD.

I don't mean to offensive but BD?

Kohli will play till 38. Look at Dhoni as an example.

Your comparison with Sachin is flawed. Unlike Yuvi, Sachin’s declined in performance was natural and was due to him getting old, with Yuvi it was due to his illness. So, Yuvi was in better position to know his strength than selectors do. He should’ve allowed a younger kid instead of him, but instead he carried on for too long. If im not wrong he hasn’t offically announced his international retirement which proves my point how selfish he is. He still thinks he can play 2-3 season of IPL. I highly doubt he would even get selected next year or year after that if his form continue to dip.

Yes but its the selectors job to give the ultimatum just like Sehwag Gauti had got but I do agree on your point about Yuvi as an ODI batsman is below Kohli TM Riddle , but as a player he has played a more important part in some major tournament victories for us.

This superstar culture have really damaged Indian team. We allow seniors to carry on for far too long and cost many games and trophies. We really need Aussie like culture where seniors either retired gracefully or gets dropped. Team should come before individual

Kohli has to prove himself in England and World Cups. If he does that within next 2 year he will become the best after Sachin.

As a player Yuvi have won us WC albeit at home. Let Kohli finish his career and judge him on that basis. Who knows he may have great WC next year and silence his critics for good. Next Two worldcups will define whether Kohli finishes aa ATG or GOAT.

I would say Dhawan overshadowed him in CT, since I have accepted as a batsman he is above Yuvi, guess we can stop this,do you want to continue that as a player he is above Yuvi?

You can’t compare Yuvi and Kohli as a player when latter is just hitting his peak while former is pretty much done with his intl career. Lets wait 5-6 years before passing a judgement

Fair enough.

You’re right saying Kohli needs to improve in England and in Worldcup. Next year and half is very important phase of his career and will determine as to where do Kohli ranks among greats of the game

It's asinine to say Kohli can't play in knockouts in WCs (or in ICC tournaments).
Kohli was the MVP in the CT13 final. Kohli was sublime in WC T20 KOs of 2016, and was almost equally good in 2014. Kohli scored a 35 in the WC11 final - a 35 that was as good as any 60 in a normal game.
