In my viewe it should be Imad wasim. But considering our managment Malik or Hafeez will be captaining Pakistan.

Is this even a question?

There is a National treasure .......

May be sharyar khan a young 25 year old budda!! we are fed up with the team performance from Indian occupied Kashmir

Mickey wont go with Hafeez I suppose..

Malik has publicaly stated that he wont become captain so no point making him one. Also isn't he injured?
Imad Wasim is the best choice but it could lead to some bruised egos. That's why I said Hafeez.

to make him captain in the next game is basically for, to win the game...not to look for the future captain!

you can experiment random captains at domestic level

Rather should see it as an opportunity to try out a new captain since Azhar isn't really getting any popular. I see only 2 realistic options in the side - Hafeez and Sarfaraz. Latter is not in the XI. Management could try Hafeez.

do you think that hafeez is eligible or even deserving?
he isn't even half as fit as Malik...

lets hope we see a good XI next time at least... even if theres no captain

Anyone but Hafeez. Also, I hope Hafeez is the one who makes way once Malik is back.

Doesn't really matter tbh. Probably best not to give it to Imad, should be focusing on his performance as he's newish to the side, doesn't need the unnecessary burden/criticism. Guess best to give it to someone who's used to it, so it won't be a burden/affect his own performance much. So the obvious choice is Malik.

Think no other option but Hafeez OR play Shafiq as captain :)

Naa that's a rubbish idea to play Shafiq as captain. He can't play let alone lead a side. Should be one of: Akmal, Wasim, Hafeez, and/or Malik.

Why is Shafiq in the squad?
Bunch of reasons. Friendships with Azhar, Sarfraz and Babar, Good at drinks duty, good at fielding. With Hafeez called back, Shafiq doesn't have to be in the squad as batsman or captain.

To be fair, treasure bowled well today. It helps being good un multiple facets of the game.

Debatable - it's easier to bowl few overs as 6th bowler; because you can never lose. If you go for a bashing, next over Captain will replace you; if you bowl tight, batsmen won't go after you, so that they lose wickets to a part-timer. And, that helps lot, if your fellow bowler has just knocked top 2 batsmen inside 3 overs.

I hate to rate combination players, who makes the team with a bit of everything - I have seen his bowling with revised action; make him 5th bowler - he'll quickly reach 50 with ball. His performance KPI is to bat in top order & he must be accountable on that. Probably, Malik would have gone for similar figures, or may be 5/6 runs more under that context; no big deal, it's not that he has got couple of top order out.

Likely Malik. Hafeez is already thinking about how he only has three more odis before he is dropped for good or called again.

Why is Shafiq in the squad?

Obviously as a backup captain :)

OT it should be Hafeez.

Malik just recently expressed an unwillingness to lead the side. Making Imad/Babar captain will be too big an experiment for such a big series, and it would put more burden on their shoulders. They should focus on their cricket for now.

Shafiq is a ridiculous idea as he can't even make the team on merit.

Leaves us with Hafeez, who is one of the most underrated skippers in recent times.

Imad.

Likes of Hafeez and Malik can't play outside Asia even if LOIs have flat tracks everywhere.

Shoaib Malik.

He's a smart captain and will be fine under pressure.

The other choices shouldn't be taking the reins against such a tough opposition. You can't afford silly mistakes by the captain against Australia in their backyard.

Plus, Pakistan is already battling uphill in this series due to its lack of skill.

This wouldn't have been such bad a occurrence, if Sarfraz was still around.

I'm expecting one of Malik or Hafeez to lead, but want Imad to captain.

Imad should be in line for future captaincy.

Babar has already captain sides before ,amir has a very good brain* and they both are undropable

Malik demonstrated all his mantle under pressure with the Karachi Kings.

Should be Imad Wasim

Another point, in ODI's pakistan's strategy should be to find and play few good all rounders like India has developed their team with so many all spin all rounders. There are many benefits of this :

1) All rounder gives more game time to an individual; if he fails he gets another chance to resurrect his performance in second innings

2) Wasim , Haris Sohail, and Mohammad Nawaz can solve this problem. They can share 20-30 overs for 100-150 runs and can get 2/3 wickets. And can contribute with the bat as well. Even on flat track our bowlers will struggle and get flayed everywhere for 70-80 runs in 10 overs, and will not do well with the bat either. And for swinging conditions our batsmen can not perform. As we all know they will fail miserably.
There was a time when Pak had many fast and spin bowling all rounders in Razzaq, Azhar,Afridi, Salim Malik, Amir Sohail. At that time Pakistan team was ferocious because they can rely on so many options in bowling and batting department. They had 2/3 genuine fast bowlers and 2/3 genuine and highly technical batsmen. Which worked well. Of course, in test team you need specialists and you can not compromise on that. But for T20 and ODI there should be more and more all rounders in the team.

3) In last 4/5 years only Azhar, Asad, Babar were able to cement their place as they are temperamentally good and have technique to play and defend. While the likes of Umar Akmal and Shehzad are once in a decade performers. These 2 dont have temperament. Yesterday, Umar played a very rash shot that even Starc was laughing at him. I don't know what he has improved on in last 2 years. Even though public sentiment is with Akmals but the point is they are no good learners, they play with one dimensional attitude, and good teams can easily trap them.

He's also basically a specialist (part-time) spinner.

He bats at #3 but we all know the level of output he will produce - not a batsman.

He fields in the slips but we know he can't catch consistently - he duly obliged.

So the specialist 6th bowler should be made captain?
__________________________________________

I don't see many options to be honest - I don't think Malik will be given captaincy because of the past. No one new will be tried as we simply don't do that. I am quite prepared to see Hafeez at the toss if Azhar isn't there.

Malik demonstrated all his mantle under pressure with the Karachi Kings.

That shouldn't disregard his work with Sialkot for years.

None of the other options are viable against the Aussies. A young or inexperienced skipper shouldn't be thrown into the deep end with such a fragile team around him.

If Malik fails, it'll be okay as he's a proper stop gap for Azhar/Sarfraz.

The fact that Hafeez's name is popping up in 2 of every 3rd post is a concern in itself.

When will we ever learn

Malik has said on live tv that he doesn't want to captain anymore. Not in PSL, not in intl cricket.

Hafeez has no future and is a liability.

I hope Amir is the captain, but I'm 99% sure it will be Hafeez since he's the most budha in the team.

Yes Malik doesn't want to captain though I think he was one of the better captains that we had.

His record is good because we played 2 5-match home series under him against Zim and Bang and won 10 easy matches in a row.

We lost against SA at home, India away, didn't make the final of the Asia Cup, and also lost against SL at home.

Is the BPL controversy player still playing? We can count him out as captain as well. Management must have taken some stand on it behind the curtains.

confirmed Hafeez will captain

Surprised they've gone for a player who hasn't been in the side for a while.

I guess not many options though with Malik struggling with his fitness.
