"The 5-0 result against Australia is in the past, we're not thinking aboout that series, we're thinking about tomorrow's match and our morale is high. The momentum is with us so hopefully we'll do well against them tomorrow"

"Mickey is a wonderful coach and he's doing really well with us, since the last 3 years he's worked hard with the players. For me and for Pakistan he's a wonderful coach"

"I don't think Pakistani fans will do that (boo Smith). They love cricket and they support players"

"I'm not thinking about what Australia is thinking. We heard about Stoinis' injury and Mitch Marsh's arrival but we're focused on our own team and we'll make plans and hopefully do well against them as a team"

"We can't control the weather, it's for both teams. Definitely if the match is shortened, the plan changes. If the full match happens and the weather is overcast, then if we win the toss we'll definitely want to bowl first"

"England's weather is like this, there can be rain and the next moment there's sunshine. Since our practice yesterday, it's been raining here but we can't tell about tomorrow's weather. It will affect the teams and the situation can be difficult but we're hopeful of a full match tomorrow and a positive result. There's 6 matches left, if we win 4-5 then we can qualify for the SFs"

"This is a World Cup, in bilateral series team go close to 360-370 and can chase it like Pakistan almost chased 370 but these are World Cup matches and targets aren't easy. Scoring 500 isn't easy, once in a blue moon a team can make a massive score but if you look at England, they are also making 330-340. These are World Cup matches, I don't think any team will make 500"

"If teams want to do well, their top order will have to make runs like you can see with India or any other team which is doing well. Their top orders perform and give a set platform. If you look at our team, our top order gave the platform against England and we had confidence and we made 350. So obviously we have plans to counter their top batsmen like Finch, Warner and Smith because these are their backbone. If we can dismiss them early then we can control the game"

"We keep the possibility of a shortened match in mind, we have the option to change the playing XI if a shortened match is likely but we're hopeful we'll get a full match"

"The pitch looked to have a lot of grass, we'll see the condition of the pitch tomorrow"

"Sometimes when you've played in certain grounds then you know more about them but I think both teams are playing here for the first time. We're focusing on our planning and performing well in the match"

"Obviously Australia is a good team and they've lost a match to a good team also, so they will try to play good cricket against us. We know they are a strong team so we'll try to play strong cricket against them"

Is this because he no longer plays in the top order so he can put all the blame on them? Australia have already demonstrated that you can win with zero contribution from the top order, this is a team game, so start taking responsibility and learn from the Aussies.

captain sounds bullish. performing captains are always confident. hope he come in to bash zampa and the part timers in the middle of the innings.

But he is right, the top order more often than not sets the tone. he should always bat at 4 or 5.

Some decent comments from Sarfaraz. Hopefully they study that grass well as sometimes even with grass pitches dont do much, if there is something in it for the seamers than Shaheen should play over Wahab other wise same team should play.

He has given positive remarks about Mickey with which I dont have issues but results should speak more than how good Mickey has been in words. A good teacher is someone who can bring results and can keep the students happy as well, though a teacher who isnt disciplinarian or strict might make his students happy but if results arent there nobody outside his students will call him a good teacher.

One win after 12 consecutive defeats and he starts spilling pearls of wisdom.

Can our team please stick to talking through their performance? Why are we acting bit jumpy? Need to calm yourself and talk less in media and more with the bat. Really miss common sense, these days.

So what is he supposed to say....should he say that they are scared of Aussies and have no chance of beating them after that 5-0 loss in UAE.

Confidence and belief is really important and Sarfaraz has not said anything wrong here.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has already upset the formbook once so doing it again holds no fears for the Pakistan captain.

Ahead of their clash with Australia at Taunton on Wednesday, Sarfaraz was in no mood to relive a recent 5-0 defeat to the same opponents in the United Arab Emirates.

Instead he preferred to take confidence from his team’s 14-run victory over tournament favourites England at Trent Bridge last week – a result that followed a similarly heavy series loss at the hands of the world’s top-ranked ODI side.

A lot has been made of the difference between a bilateral series – where mistakes can be rectified in the next match – and the pressurised environment of an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, where there are no second chances.

And Sarfaraz believes Pakistan, winners of the ICC Champions Trophy in England two years ago, are proof of the theory.

"We have not won many matches against Australia but we had not won too many against England either and we managed to beat them,” he said.

“We will be as positive and aggressive as we were against England, that is the level of performance we want and need to be successful against a team like Australia.

“That last win at Trent Bridge gives us confidence and belief but we know that Australia will come hard at us and we will be ready.

“The series against Australia is in the past now and we aren’t thinking about yesterdays, we’re only thinking about tomorrow.”

Australia will be without all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who suffered a side strain in their defeat to India on Sunday but Sarfaraz has no injury concerns with his team.

I guess some of the media interactions from the teams are mandatory as you see every team(Mostly captains) interacting with media before the match and obviously he has to answer the questions.

Well its seems Shaheen is playing tomorrow. He has give the hint in one of his statement.

Shaheen Shah Afridi "I performed well in all formats in last year but didn't delivered in England series but if I'm given chance in CWC 19, I'll try 100% to bowl game winning spells for Pakistan in order to compensate England series failure. Finch, Smith and Warner to be my targets in Pakistan vs Australia game."

Thanks for the info. If they think wicket is gonna assist its a good choice and hopefully Shaheen replaces one of the 3 pacers ideally Wahab as on assisting seaming surfaces he is not someone who can extract the conditions and no need to change the overall combination.

This is straight-up the best press conference I've ever seen from Sarfaraz... I am always hyper-critical of him and never understood why he can't confidently answer the Urdu questions - but he did well here! Great to see him confident and great to see him looking forward to all the games. Overall very happy to hear the leader of the team in this spirit!

The comment about top order is correct. What is Pakistan if we go 40/3? We will naturally lose that game... to think otherwise is to not know your own team at all. Yes, there are teams that can survive from 40/3 but Pakistan cannot - which is why it becomes even more crucial to know this limitation and this is why guys like Imam and Babar have been successful and have been persisted with (especially in the case of Imam). Once our top 3 get a good start, even guys like Hafeez/Sarfaraz/X/Y/Z will come in bullish and play their natural game. If you put those same middle/lower order batsmen into tricky situations they typically end up failing - this is a limitation of the current team and we have to respect our limitation and play accordingly.

That being said - i have full confidence that Fakhar/Imam/Babar are just as good as ANY other top 3 in this entire tournament, whether it be Australia, England or India! All three are gun players and all of them are due big ones. GO PAK!

So if he do not or can not bat at 1,2,3 then he should hide behind dais???

It sound simple, but the top three have to provide the platform for the rest, especially in overcast conditions.

Agree with that . wahab have done quite well but he is useless +less effective on green wicket. Shaheen had fire in belly hopefully he does make a strong comeback

I think keeping wickets in hands is the key to getting big scores. Look at how easily India accelerate once Kohli and Dhwaan set the platform.

If the wicket indeed is as green as everyone's saying about it, then Shaheen needs to be given a go. Wahab hasn't been a very useful bowler on wickets that aid seam and swing. He might the one to make way.

WOW brilliant stuff from Kaptaan.

Lets hope other teams don't find this secret of doing well.
