All speak Punjabi fluently

Once I watching that fool's (Ramiz) interview on TV and he was harping on about how first class standard has always been a joke in Pakistan and how used to score so many tons in a single season just for fun.

So it got me wondering and I checked his first class stats, that fool has scored more than one ton (a grand total of 2) only once in all of his first class seasons. Barring that earth shattering performance of 2 ton season, he had only managed one ton per season.

Iftikhar has been picked for the same reason as Mohammed Nawaz
Because he played well against the lions

There are other talents out there like Asif Ali and khalid Latif but maybe the selectors are hoping iftikhar is not just an a team bully

Other players played well against the Lions. Fakhar Zaman should've been selected then, instead of someone we've seen fail and look totally overmatched on the international level

Yes, he cannot play pacers. That is why, he scored a 63 (90+ strike rate) at Perth against Harris and Johnson. He also scored 64 at the Oval against Anderson, Broad, and Bresnan.
 
Surprise Ahmed should be nowhere our t20 squad, anyone who has any sort of hope from him is having delusions of grandeur.

What about his other innings during those series? Or his scores in UAE vs. Australia? It's easy to pick and choose because even someone like Shahzaib Hassan has played in England. Should we get him in the team?

1 match cannot decide. He still was better than Shoaib Malik in this match.

You questioned his ability to play fast bowling and I gave two examples where he excelled in challenging conditions against top fast bowling.

It is funny that other batsmen have failed series after series for years but they were persisted with. However, Fawad failed in just 1 series vs Australia despite having an excellent comeback that year and he was dropped from the WC squad which would have completely demoralized him. He was then brought back for 3 matches vs Bangladesh where mostly all batsman sucked but again Fawad was the first one who was dropped.

Hoping for Kami to come through vs Iftikhar to come through is like expecting the sun to rise tomorrow vs pigs to fly.

Instead of betting on a seaming all rounder in england he is betting on a spin bowling all rounder. Probably is impressed by moin ali.
 
He is an excuse of a cricketer. He is a sort of a batsman that if he scores a 20 odd I will consider it a success.


If we had to play such a cricketer we should have rather played Imad or Nawaz

There is no point in denying the inevitable, closing eyes and expecting Miracles.

He's just not good enough and is an undeserving selection to boot. I hope he scores but there is as much chance of that happening as of snow tomorrow in Islamabad.

He surprised me by getting selected. We ve gone half way house again. Should have gone with a regular bowler or regular batter. He strikes me as a really reall poor man's hafeez
 
He was playing as the fifth bowler, yet he bowled ONLY two overs in the whole innings

I don't get the whole point behind Iftikhar Ahmed being in the eleven

He is 15 years younger than Misbah (Atleast on paper) . Did Misbah buy Sweets for him when he was doing MBA and Ifti was in Grade 1 :misbah
 
Come on guys! Give him a chance. He can't be worse than Hafeez who had been a walking wicket in this series. It's very unfair to bash someone even before he's faced a ball.

9 years ago He played his first match under PCB banner.

It was inter district seniors cricket tournament. He has no history of playing under 15, under 16 or under 19 cricket at region or departmental level.

Usually and quite Often 22, 23 + years old players start directly from Inter district senior tournament whereas only those younger players get into this tournament who have excelled at U19 level or those who have genuine pace.


Iftikhar is officially 31 and unofficially he may be 31 to 36.


Note : Unofficial is my personal opinion which can be totally wrong.

Cricket Archive has been mentioning his date of birth 3rd september 1985 since last many years.


Iftikhar in his last 10-11 Fc matches has averaged 48 with 3 hundreds. So he is at his batting peak years. Whether he delivers or not is a seperate debate. I know he looked bad in his first 2-3 matches for pakistan but won't be surprisef if he delivers in first or second innings of this match. He must. Otherwise he will get the same fate as Ayub Doggar who was a much better batsman than Iftikhar and made pakistan team after scoring 3500 plus runs in last 4 Fc seasons at an Average of 50 plus with 12 Fc hundreds.

Saddens me to see such mediocre players getting preferred over proven performers like Fawad who just can't seem to find a place in any team.
 
Sad thing is, he looked good till he played that Afridi-esque shot. Same ball that got Misbah out was played efficiently by him. blocked again, straight drive for four then that horrific pull shot.

I think he will score some in the 2nd innings , just don't play that awful shot again. One hope is that he doesn't get to bat in the 2nd innings.

He is a worse bowler and batsman than Babar Azam, Haris Sohail and even Fawad Alam of all people, so he is a pointless selection.

Passengers are just passengers. The team carries them but they don't necessarily weigh the team down, especially when people like Iftikhar are concerned.

What I mean to say is that he is hardly noticed on the pitch. He barely bats for a few deliveries and bowls for a few overs.

If 2-3 other players show up, they make up for his failures. Players like him attract negative attention only when the team is losing, which he hasn't been a part of so far.

I'm glad he took a good crucial catch of Cook today though, at least he can take something from this game home, because this may well be his first and last Test cap.

I was certainly surprised when he held onto that catch from Cook, and from his celebrations it seems he was surprised too
