Pakistan’s wrist spinner Shadab Khan has entered in 117th position after producing player of the series performance

Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Evin Lewis of the West Indies have made impressive gains in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for T20I Batsmen following the conclusion of their series in Port of Spain on Sunday.

Babar, who was the leading run-getter in the four-match series with 137 runs, has rocketed 41 places to a career-high 27th position, while Lewis, who scored 111 runs in the series, has vaulted 40 places to 45th in the latest rankings, which were released on Monday.

Ahmed Shahzad 29th (up by five places), Shoaib Malik 34th (up by three places) and Carlos Brathwaite 109th (up by 35 places) are the other batsmen to improve their rankings in the list which is headed by India’s Virat Kohli.

In the bowling table, Pakistan’s wrist spinner Shadab Khan has entered in 117th position after producing player of the series performance. The teenager was the most successful bowler in the series with 10 wickets.

Shadab’s team-mate Imad Wasim has moved up two places to second spot, 15 points behind number-one ranked Imran Tahir, while other bowlers to head in the right direction include Wahab Riaz 40th (up by three places), Marlon Samuels 60th (up by four places) and Carlos Brathwaite 77th (up by 36 places).

In the all-rounders’ list, Samuels has gained one place and is now fourth, while Brathwaite has jumped 31 places to claim 30th position.

Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh will defend his number-one ranking in the all-rounders’ list when he will feature in the two-match series against Sri Lanka to be played on Tuesday and Thursday in Colombo. Shakib leads Glenn Maxwell of Australia by three points and will put to put in strong performances to finish the series on top of the tree.

Meanwhile, eighth-ranked Sri Lanka (101 points) leads 10th-ranked Bangladesh by 29 points, which trails ninth-ranked Afghanistan (84 points) by 12 points.

If Bangladesh wins both the matches, then Bangladesh will stay in 10th position but will rise to 77 points (seven behind Afghanistan), while Sri Lanka will drop five points to finish at 96 points.

However, if the series result is reversed and Sri Lanka wins 2-0, then it will gain one point and rise to 102 points, while drop one point and end up on 71 points.

Brilliant work by Babar but am afraid his detractors won't like this

Ranking wise,Babar is now the best batsman for Pakistan in both ODI and T20I cricket.

great work by babar.. he making his presence felt pretty quickly on world stage..

Criticism of Imad in T20Is is unwarranted, he gets the job done. Low economy rate is gold in T20Is.

the so called spinless wonder almost topping the bowling charts

haters gonna hate

Two absolutely brilliant players and talents in our LOI squads, inshallah thry keep getting better and win more matches for Pakistan

Hassan Ali
Mohammad Amir
Shadab Khan
Imad Wasim
Ruman Raees/ Junaid Khan

We've a strong bowling lineup for CT.

Imad Wasim has had a meteoric rise. Hope he can deliver on South African pitches as well! Shadab a pretty good find as well. Traditionally in T20 we've thrived on spinners. Our only gun T20 bowler was Umar Gul in his first two tournaments.

Babar and Imad are both excellent LOI players. Don't need rankings to know this.

Well MenInG yoy didnt mention 28 AND 29 is Shehzad and Akmal...

We can hardly fit every name in the title, the others are mentioned in OP I think?

Imad and Babar are the top-ranked Pakistani bowler and batsman thus they're the most important ones to mention in the title, I believe?

We did get Aus. 220 all out on flat MCG wicket.
Let's see what we do in UK.

But we end up losing 4-1..and when wad the last time we won an ODI series against a big team? No matter how strong your bowling is, today's cricket is dominated by batting and we have medieval approach towards batting.

This will be learned painfully a few months down the road

Dont worry - all Pak players who play for my country are my favourites.

They are on their way down rather than up.

I know the post was intended on that Babar is better than these two and he needs to be far far away form these guys.
But hope they all perform acc to the talent they have or had..

True. You would think Pakistan must have learned their lessons after 2015 wc,Eng,NZ and Aus tours but look at our T20I and ODI line up.

At least we dropped Umar Akmal. Who single handedly lost us the T20 WC 2016. Look at the positives.

But but but teams are figuring him out and only those teams who have never played him or struggle against spin can't play this slow seamer. Ellipsism

T20's are his level.

If he can have a ER of under 5 in ODIs and can chip in with 1-2 wickets per game, asides from scoring 25-30 games with a SR of 90+ - all of which he currently seems to be doing - he is a decent utility option for ODIs.

I am all for changing the approach towards batting.

But it makes me guffaw when you talk about changed approach and then mention the name of two TTF Akmals on every post to vindicate your point.

An Akmal is not the way forward.

Just because an Akmal looks good doesn't mean he should be in the team.

An Akmal shouldn't be in the team because an Akmal can't think.

We need aggressive players who can think and can score runs.

Not just look good and look aggressive and walk back to pavilion with pained expressions.
