Imad Wasim playing for Nottinghamshire in the T20 Blast

Would be a good signing. I would love to go to a T20 blast game this season seeing how many Pakistanis are involved but getting tickets is too hard, it should be easier for county cricket IMO

Tickets are hard to get for the marquee games i.e. Surrey Vs Middlesex, Lancashire vs Yorkshire. However for the rest of the games they are quite accessible, a lot of games are played in the out grounds aswell so are very cheap, only issue is you will have to get there early to reserve a chair otherwise you have to find your own seating. I have managed to get middlesex tickets so far for a game in richmond £15.00 for the chance to see ABDV can't go wrong. will defo try for some other games.

Why are all of our players only going to play T20? Would be nice if they could experience FC Cricket in England as well.

Asked Notts about this, no official announcement yet.

Talks in progress and Notts are hopeful.

Any team would love to have Imad Wasim in T20 format. He does the job game after game in those initial overs with bowl and a solid lower middle order hitter as well.

Counties should be clamouring to sign this guy for the t20 format. Really upped his value in the WC.

He looked in good batting touch during WC. Let see if he can continue that form because his bowling is his main asset in this format.

Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club Media Release: Pakistan All Rounder Imad Wasim Signs For Outlaws

Imad Wasim, the Pakistani international, has joined Notts Outlaws as the second overseas player for the T20 Vitality Blast.

Wasim goes straight into the squad to face Derbyshire Falcons this evening and is set for his home debut against Leicestershire Foxes on Saturday.

A left-arm spinning all-rounder with 87 international caps, Wasim joins the Outlaws having featured for his country at the ICC Cricket World Cup, averaging 54 with the bat and conceding less than five runs-per-over with the ball.

He took the wickets of Joe Root and Jos Buttler in the Royal London One-Day International between England and Pakistan at Trent Bridge in May.

“I can’t wait to represent the Outlaws in T20 cricket,” said the 30-year-old.

“Trent Bridge is a wonderful ground with fans who are passionate and knowledgeable.

“They were a generous audience during the One-Day International earlier this year and Trent Bridge under floodlights looked amazing.

“My aim is to contribute to the Outlaws going all the way. They did it in 2017 and we have an exciting squad with lots of international talent that’s capable of doing it again.”

Wasim has 129 wickets to his name in T20 cricket at an average of under 25, with a miserly economy rate of 6.28.

His 147 appearances in the shortest format include 35 matches for Pakistan and stints in the Caribbean Premier League and Bangladesh Super League.

“With the nature of the international schedule, it’s a very difficult market in which to sign overseas players – far more difficult than it used to be,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket, Mick Newell.

“With Imad becoming available on the back of the World Cup, we acted as quickly as possible to secure him.

“The paperwork and clearances have taken a little bit of extra time, meaning we’ve had to start the tournament without him.

“But it’s good to now be welcoming him into the squad ahead of the next fixture against Derbyshire.

“He brings an additional spin bowling option that we think we can benefit from and he’ll strengthen our middle-order batting as well.

“With the venue we’ve got here at Trent Bridge and with the level of support we get here now, we are an attractive proposition to overseas cricketers.”

Wasim is expected to be available for the remainder of the tournament, with the exception of the matches against Leicestershire Foxes and Yorkshire Vikings on 23 and 25 August respectively.

Imad is a proper all rounder. I’d go even as far as to call him our 2nd best T20 player after Babar Azam.

'I try to play with the batsman's mind' - Imad Wasim returns to Notts Outlaws full of confidence

Imad Wasim returns to the Notts Outlaws squad this week as a married man.

The all-rounder missed the last two games as Notts sealed their place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

Now he is back from tying the knot in Pakistan and while his outlook on life may have changed, it appears unlikely his outlook on cricket will differ at all.

To say the 30-year-old knows his game would be an understatement after sitting down with him at Lady Bay during a training session to discover what he makes of his time at Trent Bridge.

Wasim, ranked as the second best Twenty20 bowler in the world, cares little for Trent Bridge's reputation as a batsman's paradise, especially in T20 cricket.

If is fair to say he backs himself with a self confidence that could come off as arrogance, but does not thanks to a countering dose of humility and recognition that he might be a regular for his country, but there is no one at Notts he cannot learn from.

"If you don't learn you're failing. You should learn every single day as a cricketer," he said.

"There's experienced players and coaches here. I can learn from the youngster playing his first game as well.

"I've been trying to work with all the young players to help them as well, to help them how to think and make decisions under pressure.

"The game is always the same. Pressure makes you do silly things, so you have to stay calm.

"Stick to your basics because T20 cricket is so difficult. You can get hit as a bowler, but you have pride not to go for runs.

"I don't care about wickets and outfields. I know that if I do my basics right I'm good enough to get any batsman out, or at least contain them.

"If the batsman is good enough to hit me then fair enough, they deserve success. I'll try to vary my pace in and out of the power play.

"I try to play with the batsman's mind. In that sense I'm far better than most other players.

"I have less skills than other players, but more brains than them."

Wasim has had little chance to impress with the bat yet, but he has done well with the ball, with the left-arm spinner taking seven wickets at an average of 15.71.

His economy rate of 6.47 is the second best in the team with only Matt Carter (6.40) bettering him.

With that in mind, Wasim is relishing his time at Trent Bridge.

"I'm loving it. It's lovely here," he said.

"It's great to see county cricket. I've played all around the world so I wanted a new experience.

"It's a good standard. Every team has two overseas players, then a lot of the local players are England players, or players who hope to play for England.

"Trent Bridge is fantastic. Every game feels like an international game because the ground is so full.

"It's good to see so many people supporting the county level. That will mean players are more ready when they play for their country.

"I don't think about pressure. I'm selected to play cricket.

"I'll play cricket. It doesn't matter if you perform or not because what matters is you give 100 percent for your team each day. Results come if you work hard."

While this is Wasim's first time in county cricket, it is not his first stint in the UK. He was born in Wales, but moved back to his homeland as young child, before returning to play club cricket in Belfast and English clubs, including Papplewick and Linby in 2007.

That has given him plenty of experience of UK dressing rooms and the variety of characters you encounter.

"It's fun. It's a different culture. You get to understand every player and it's really nice to get along with other players," he said.

"I'm a jolly person. I get along with everyone.

"Every player here is a character in their own way. There's some unbelievable guys here.

"I've played with and against some of them before. They're all top notch."

Imad doing what Imad does.

He won't set the pulses racing but is a just a steady, handy cricketer.

Last over today wasn't great but his first 3 overs were superb and included the key wicket of de Villiers - job done.

IN-FORM NASH EXCITED BY ADDITION OF WASIM

Chris Nash believes the best is yet to come from Notts in the Vitality Blast, as Imad Wasim is added to the Outlaws’ squad to face Lancashire.

Wasim, who agreed a deal to return for a second campaign at Trent Bridge during the winter, has received clearance to play and replaces Tom Barber in a 14-man squad for the trip to Liverpool.

Nash, who has already contributed back-to-back half-centuries and one remarkable catch during the tournament to date, believes the Pakistan international could represent the final piece of the Green and Golds’ jigsaw.

“It’s exciting to be able to strengthen an already strong team,” he said.

“He’s one of those spinners that’s equally effective in the powerplay and at the death – there aren’t many who are better at that than him.

“He’s a world-class performer who bowls tough overs at great economy rates, and he comes in with some strong showings in the last few weeks for Pakistan under his belt.”
