Congratulations we Won.. But Keep in mind many mistakes were made during the game.

1- Fielding... we need to make the half chances count. Dropping catches will hurt us badly.

2- Field placements Sarf needs to be more attacking by provind slips to his bowlers and give confidence..

3- During Batting top order should stay for longer and bat with 130+ SR.

Please add more..

Drop Imam and bring in Haris.

Drop Asif and bring in Imad

Have Babar open and Haris at 3

The 2nd point is the most important one. We could have finished England off much earlier had Sarfraz put slips in at the right time.

Take catches, please take catches for the love of God please take your catches.

10 hours of slip catching practice for Bobby....

Drop Imam and bring in Haris.

May be they can also ask Aamir to play as one down and quickly send Afridi from Pakistan to captain the side.

Fielding fielding and fielding!!

And sarfi hold your nerve and keep that damn slip in!!

Our Top and Middle order needs to play their shots without fear. Hafeez proved it today, often we go into our shell and miss out on hit me ball.
If Our batting provides 300s to our bowlers we should be able to defend unless is an off day.

Wahab and Shaddy are providing the missing spark in our bowling. A little concerned about Hasan Ali as he is leaking runs in the middle overs.

All in All fielding is something we need to really work on we cannot drop catches and need to capitalize on half chances.

Imad for Asif

Sirfaraz at 4 and Hafeez at 5

Open bowling with Hafeez against Srilanka

Imad is struggling with bat recently especially against shot ball and even on his good days I dont think he can replicate the good days of Asif Ali.

Asif Ali is the best hitter we have in the side and in my opinion Pak shouldnt drop him.

Hassan got better with each spell, and was magnificent at the death. He will peak at the right time.

Yeah I’d just get Imad in for Asif.

We can’t afford to lose to a team like Sri Lanka and there is no chance in hell that we will. Even if we play half as good as we did today we’ll beat Sri Lanka!

So, i was gonna make this thread if you hadn't.

We need:

1- to get precise yorkers right.
2- to work on catching
3- to work on bit technique with new ball. need to see off the new ball
4- need to rotate strike more instead of playing dots while making a slog. only put a bad ball away, play good ball for singles.
5- to be attacking with new batsmen. more fielders closing in to save single so need to build dots on new batsmen.
6- need to stick with basis instead of changing it too much. if yorkers work at death, no need to get length ball across to concede boundary.
7- to tell shadab to bowl slower/with flight and develop variations like flipper
8- to work with amir for the 1st ball in swing, so that he gets that back.

as if we will improve based on advised received. Just hop on and enjoy the ride.
We will continue to drop catches, have brain farts, and play old school cricket. And yet we may win :sarf

Yeah, as for changes:

Haris Sohail in for Asif Ali. I know people will say what. Asif ali is a hit or a miss & poor in field. Haris bring in assurity to the team. Will make our batting order a lot more stronger.

Need to replace Hassan Ali with Hasnain if he couldn't pick wickets.

I hope he can take wickets in the middle like he used to at his peak. I wont bowl him much in the last 5 overs as Amir and Wahab are much more experienced than him and can handle the pressure better in my opinion.

They did listen to the bashing given after Windies game :yuvi

Pakistan's team selection was perfect today

I think it was a brilliant move to play Shadab over Imad and it payed off. Shadab brought a mystery factor which Imad lacked after playing a full series against England.

I hope it also ends the debate that Hafeez and Malik do not deserve a place on the team. Hafeez played the best inning of the match and Malik's 3 overs for just 10 runs with the wicket of dangerous Stokes kept England short of target in the end.

Lots of people wants to drop Asif... I would like to give him one more chance... Trio of Malik/Hafeez and Shaddy doing the job in Spin department. Imad is not setting the world on fire with his batting anyways..

Haris is no better fielder than Asif and Imam and Babar are enough for assurity on flat surfaces. Haris can only come in if we see a difficult wicket. No one in our team has the ability to hit in the middle lower middle order outside Asif Ali and Hafeez.

Hassan came back well in his last few overs. I would stick with him.

Bring Haris in for Malik, especially vs teams like NZ and Australia.

A hitter in the team is as important as any other role. He should play every match, he can make difference on his day in the last few overs just like Wahab did in bowling today.

I would replace Malik with Imad. Imad has shown better batting ability and is otherwise a better bowler as well.

Malik bowled well today and he is overall a better bowler than Haris I think. Batting wise obviously Haris is better. So would be a tough call but at the moment I think we should go with the winning combination and work on our strategies and fielding. This match shouldnt have gone as close as it went after getting them 4/118.

Imam needs to improve his approach first up. Can't be having him 2(10) before he starts to play shots.

Fielding is like school boys cricket. Scared like hell. You are a professional player playing cricket for years and yet you can't catch simple catches.

Against teams with strong pace attacks, Haris is a must. No two ways about it.

Again it's the fielding. We were so lucky to get Root when we did otherwise the dropped catch by Babar would have haunted me forever. We can't afford to keep dropping catches like that letting the batsman score a big one. With so much time to practise these catches should be swallowed up. Not sure if Sarfaraz is batting at the right spot either.

The choice would be between Malik and Imad .

Pakistan has to go with 3 pacers and shadab. No changes there.

If Pakistan goes with 5th specialist bowler , batting will be affected to an extent , so Hafeez has to bowl a few overs.

Despite the result...

This is not a title challenging side. There are too many holes in this side to be a strong contender. We needed to play out of our skin to eek out a single win I don’t believe they have the ability or mental strength to keep this intensity for next 7 games.

I don't see what Asifs position in the team is we need a better batsman or an all-rounder who can finish the game for us these off boundaries we can also expect from Imad.

Apart from Hafeez's batting, I don't think we performed to our maximum capability.

Fakhar and Asif didn't fire and still I don't think our fielding was up to the mark.

True. I think Pak won without playing their best cricket, I believe if they put in effort they can do much better.

This is the best Pakistani side in a World Cup since 1992. Much better than the “dream teams” of 1996/1999 Come what may, these guys are top contenders for the cup. Just need smart team selection, especially drop Malik for Harris & rotate between Shadab & Imad. Asif will fire at the right time, be patient with him.

Yup but currently we dont have players with those features

Fielding could be better of course and the lower order is still under-performing.

Well the did have the ability and the strength in the champions trophy, i dont see why not in the worldcup
Only reason i belive we lost the matches before this was because we were missing key players
Except the one against wi and afg that was just them being horrendous

This is a very good side but no way better than '99.

It is on the day. We have just defeated the hosts and favourites which is good enough for me. If we can defeat England then can do anything. It is the catching that concerns me the most.

One game a time. But in all seriousness we need to improve our fielding to be any chance. I suppose like any other team in the competition it is about finding form at the right time.

I disagree.

The 1996 side was the best.

Waqar, Wasim, Saeed, Inzi, Miandad etc.

We were on fire until Wasim decided that being 80% fit wasn't good enough to play in a Quarter Final.

Imad does nothing. He is not worth his place in the side. Same goes for Haris Sohail, his 20 odd is not good enough.

Not just fielding but field placing. We need more attacking field placement especially slips.

Unfortunately Asif is the one who ruins the balance. An average fielder and cannot bowl. When he comes off with the bat it looks spectacular but it is always a once in five chance.

i would actually drop Asif and play one of Hasnain or Shahen. we have enough batting depth no need to play someone at 7 for few overs with no bowling.

with Hasnain or Shaheen with 4 pacers intent would be to get SRL all out under 200. also then you can rotate other pacers better and then can all go all out attack. reduces the workload a bit on them too.

Asif is the one ruining the balance.

We'll need Malik's bowling in this World Cup.

Asif's maximum output is 50 and then out anyway and that won't come off every match.

On belters, you need batsmen like Asif. Even if they fail, it won't hurt the team much but if the gamble works, it takes a good score to a match winning one.

This said, if there is something in the pitch or if the conditions are overcast, it will be suicidal to go with Asif.

Asif is needed. Same team next game. If anything Imam should be dropped for Haris/Imad

One more...please please dive.
I saw Bairstow doing plenty of those but saw Malik, Asif, Babar, Amir and Sarfaraz not put in a dive..

These outfields; I can bake a pancake and eat it with grass, they're that smooth!

Yup but currently we dont have players with those features

I would prefer Imad over him he can hit a few on odd days and can be useful with the ball that experiment with Hafeez and Malik can backfire badly on curcial situations.

Why back it up with some logic you dont need an expert slogger at no 7 in an ODI match when he cant bowl at all. If he is a batsman he need to replace Malik or Haris we need an all rounder at no 7 and Imad is the right choice no matter how bad he is.

Stick to the winning combo but Sarfraz needs to be proactive with slips and bowling changes. Drying runs will never pay off unless you start taking wickets. And of course our dreaded fielding

Drop Imam and bring in Haris.

Drop Asif and bring in Imad

Have Babar open and Haris at 3

There is no hope for the team that are same level as Afghanistan so keep your good wishes and suggestions to yourself.

This is a very good side but no way better than '99.

On paper the ‘99 were great but never looked serious nor had the hunger to win. Same with ‘96 team. This team might not match the capabilities of those teams but they have the hunger and synergy needed to win. This is what sets them apart.

Dot balls reduction when batting, attack more with slip fielder, stop giving away easy singles and run 2s like Sarfraz.

Malik is much better batsman than Imad. Batting is not just hitting 6s. If we lose too many wickets I would trust Malik to make a lot more runs than Imad.
