I find it interesting that people are normally quick to quote stats at the speed of light, but have nothing to say about that fact Babar averages almost 40 in Test cricket; that is part-timer stuff.
You don't have to look at stats to see that he is a spent force - there is no bite in his bowling; too slow through the air, and doesn't get the ball to turn and grip much. Simply goes through the motions and gently loops the ball. Zero intensity in his bowling. So uninspiring and dull to watch.
He was quality in his prime, but got selected too late. He was impressive in 2013 but since then, he has been on a downward spiral.
He took wickets against Australia, but they were extremely poor against spin especially Haddin. His bowling wasn't earth-shattering.
He can still take a 5-fer or a 6-fer but not the impact ones. Instead, those typically useless spinners' 5 wicket hauls in subcontinent/UAE which they accomplish by virtue of bowling nearly 50 overs, and conceded 150+ runs while the batting team piles up a massive total, giving him cheap wickets in the end.
At the moment, he is a poor quality support spinner, and we would be better off investing in Zafar in his stead.
