With the line-up for the semi-finals already decided, the the teams gear up for the final match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 Super 12 stage.

New Zealand's win against Afghanistan on Sunday meant that India will be knocked out of the tournament, even if they win big in their final match against Namibia.

It is a disappointing finish for one of the pre-tournament favourites. With their coach Ravi Shastri set to retire after the tournament, and Virat Kohli stepping down as T20I captain, they were keen to end an era with a trophy, but it wasn't to be.

The Kohli-Shastri combination take pride in having built a strong culture for the Indian team, and those values will be tested when they come up against Namibia, knowing that their tournament is over. They, like Namibia, will have to battle mental fatigue from months on the road and living in bubble life for one final push.

While the stakes are low for India, for Namibia it is a treasured opportunity to learn by playing against some of the best and finish the tournament on a high.

"We came here with the expectations, but I think we exceeded that," said Pierre de Bruyn, the Namibia coach. "The Super 12 for us, it's been an amazing experience.

"We really want to compete, and I think we've done ourselves proud the way we've conducted ourselves on the field. Starting with that first win against Scotland and then Afghanistan and then our best match was definitely against Pakistan.

"Facing the best in the world at times can be overwhelming. And it's all about staying composed. And this team, especially with the ball, has shown that they are willing to wrestle.

"The learnings for us is something that we are going to treasure that. We're going to hold on very hard to that because those lessons, good or bad, they are going to make you a better team and they're going to make you a better player."

Match details
The match: India v Namibia, Match 42
Time: 6.00pm, Monday 8 November
Venue: Dubai International Stadium, Dubai

The teams

Since their qualification hopes have ended, India might rest some of their key players, who have had a busy few months on the road.

Possible India XI: KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli (capt), Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Chahar

Namibia, who will be keen to make a final statement in the tournament, could bring back Jan Frylinck. Their focus will be on bowling better at the death.

Probable XI: Stephan Baard, Michael van Lingen, Craig Williams, Gerhard Erasmus (capt), David Wiese, JJ Smit, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Zane Green (wk), Karl Birkenstock/Jan Frylinck, Ruben Trumpelmann, Bernard Scholtz

Key players

KL Rahul: As India look to the future, the stylish opener will have a big role to play. He's coming off two excellent innings against Afghanistan and Scotland, including an 18-ball fifty.

Ruben Trumpelmann: The left-arm pacer has been a star for Namibia this tournament. His left-arm angle could ask some questions of the Indian batting, who have struggled against that kind of bowling early in the tournament. The match might also be a chance for him to audition for franchise cricket.

While the match will not affect the semi-final line-up, a win will confirm third place on the group for India, while Namibia can go up to four points with a win.

What they said

Stephan Baard, Namibia batter: "That's the big one (India). It's a big group and every game is a big game, but to finish off with the India team? It's something to look forward to. It's something that a couple of months ago, you didn't even think about, so yes, we're looking forward to that one ... It's been absolutely massive. We've enjoyed every single minute of it. We want to compete, we're here to compete, but in the same sense, we want to learn as much as possible. We want to see what these guys do on and off the field and up until this point, it's been surreal."

Bharat Arun, India bowling coach: "Obviously we are a very good side. We were the tournament favourites when we did start. But it was most unfortunate that we lost the first two games. And that put us in a very precarious situation that we are in today ... But again, in sport, sport is all about ups and downs, and you need to accept and move on."

I sincerely hope Namibia beats India. Indians players are in cloud nine after defeating the mighty Scots and Afghanis. Already giving excuses like we had two bad days and team is fine nonsense.

Such a big team is India. I am supporting them. They have the best players at every place. A KL Rahul quick fifty and Rohit Sharma hundred will be brillliant.

Looking forward to the greatest Asian team of all time- wrong- greatest team of the world of all times' thriller against Namibia.

:yk

First time india failed to qualified in semifinals of any icc wc tournament after 9 year and some team first Time qualified for semifinal of any ICC WC tournament's after 9 year :ashwin but their delusional fana going gaga over that.

Kohli's testimonial match. I expect him to go out all guns blazing for what is his last match as captain.

Two evenly matched sides. Should be a good contest

Absolutely MASSIVE game this. Possibly one of the biggest in the tournament so far.

India have to leave with some pride and show the world that they deserved to be in the semi finals, even if they were unlucky not to reach there this time.

Namibia put up a good show against Pakistan and, for a time, against New Zealand too. Both considerably weaker teams than India at all levels but they'll be looking to raise their game for the biggest match of their lives.

Panauti won the toss of probably the most irrelevant match of the tournament.

Are those blue empty seats or Indian fans in their home kit? Struggling to differentiate we were being told all of India’s games would be sellout, the only sellout I can think of was the pak vs india game, and the afg performance vs India :))

This is not fair on India at all. ICC need to step up and do something about it.

Why not drop Rohit and play Kishan? These insecure Kohli and Rohit want to play every single pointless game and then cry about fatigue.

Pakistan fans are consistent! Whenever Pakistan failed they will criticize them to the core with harsh words. When India fails at least they behave humorously! Their joy doubles when Pakistan win & India fail at the same time! But Indian fans have moved on totally from it... Hardly anyone are bothered about this exit... (Even evident in this forum! Actually Pakistanis are more concerned about it!)

There will be customary questions & scrutiny in the media, but gone are the days when they used to have hours long debate & cry for what happened, and the similar intensity of overjoy & celebrations when they win it! Probably its the turn for Pakistanis to do it now, and Bangladesh in future...

Aww..

Ramlakhan : no one cares about India’s exit.

Also ramlakhan : proceeds to write a rambling paragraph on a Pakistani forum about India’s exit. :))

One thing is for sure the Bhangra and tamasha before the tournament even started, the number of threads saying who will india play in the final, india vs England only final bla bla, ipl better than World Cup, Mumbai would beat Pakistan bla bla these threads were created by Indians so you can’t blame the Pakistani ppers for revelling in India’s demise now.

This is international cricket not Bollywood and chokers india have been found out yet again.

Interesting Kohli admitting that Rohit has been overseeing things for a while at the toss. I always thought he was a bit of a dummy captain when Rohit was in the team. Question is why BCCI didnt change him sooner?

First thing we should do is to remove shami from T20 team.he is quite expensive in t20i as well as ipl.we should think about siraj instead he has gained pace as well

India will end up with highest run rate in the group. Such injustice by ICC to consider trivial things like points and wins/losses rather than the most important thing which is run rate. BCCI should protest with ICC and get Pakistan replaced with India in the semi.

Atleast india have been consistent this tournament, started with a 10 wicket drubbing and will finish with a 10 wicket drubbing

Surprised these batsmen don’t get out and let kohli come on and hit the winnin runs , would to[ of their Bollywood tamasha of a cup run

My father and brother aren't great fans of cricket but they never miss any world cup matches..
Both of them were eagerly watching yesterday's match of Afghanistan vs Newzealand..
Hoping for Afghanistan win, they watched whole match yesterday 😂
But they haven't watch a single ball today as they have no interest in watching India bullying smaller teams 😂😂
My brother was particularly very sad of India's performance vs Pakistan and Newzealand that he was cheering smaller teams to beat us.

You have to give credit to the Indians. After those first two losses, they have been awesome. Kudos to Kohli and his team. At least they can leave with heads held high.

Logical decision by them to not watch this game.

It was a nothing game.

Beating minnows is no achievement..
The way they played against Pakistan and Newzealand with negative body language deserved very much criticism..
Fans aren't sad about India's those defeats but they are unhappy about players lack of interest, zero fight shown by our players..

Reminds me of Pakistan's 2003 ODI WC Campaign. Lost their main games to Australia, England, India and only won against Namibia, Holland. Zimbabwe match got rained out.

India (136/1) end their ICC T20 World Cup campaign with a 9-wicket win against Namibia (132/8)

getting kicked out of the tournament in the group games will make flight back home somewhat hard but to feel a little better, you guys can congratulate each other for having the highest NRR in the group.

Perhaps BCCI can change the rules and take out the point system altogether, and go with the NRR next time? Food for thought.

great performance by India in this tournament barring the first two games...India's NRR is the best in their group even after losing two games...India have topped the group on NRR basis.

India rounded off the Super 12s stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 with a resounding nine-wicket victory over Namibia in Group 2.

Both sides had already failed to make the semi-finals before the action got underway in Dubai, but India finished on a high as half centuries from Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul helped them chase 133 with ease.

Spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin set the foundation, taking three wickets apiece to help prevent Namibia, for whom David Wiese again top scored with 26, from setting an imposing total on what was a good wicket.

India were left to rue what could have been in the UAE after recording their third win, as two defeats in their opening two games against semi-finalists Pakistan and New Zealand ultimately cost them a place in the last four.

Virat Kohli elected to field after winning the toss in his final T20I as India captain but Namibia made a solid start with the bat.

Stephan Baard’s six off Mohammed Shami helped his side to 25 without loss after three overs but he soon lost his opening partner when Shami caught Michael Van Lingen, 14 off 15 balls, after he miscued a pull shot off Jasprit Bumrah.

No.3 Craig Williams soon followed for a duck after running straight past a Jadeja delivery, Rishabh Pant calmly whipping off the bails as Namibia finished the powerplay on 34 for two.

Jadeja had another when Baard missed a sweep and was trapped lbw for 21 and Namibia were in further trouble at 47 for four when fellow spinner Ashwin got in the act, having Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton caught at slip for five.

That brought Namibia’s most productive pair at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 together, as Wiese joined captain Gerhard Erasmus at the crease.

They shared a stand of 25 until Erasmus, 12 off 20 balls, nicked Ashwin behind to Pant who took a superb catch after a big deflection.

Namibia showed some fight, taking 21 from the next 15 balls before JJ Smit became Jadeja’s third victim from the last ball of his spell, Sharma’s diving catch sending him back for a run-a-ball nine with the score 93 for six with five overs to go.

Not to be outdone by his teammate, Ashwin bowled Namibia wicket-keeper Zane Green for a golden duck to also pick up his third scalp of the innings, finishing with three for 20 from his four overs.

Namibia brought up their 100 in the 17th over as Wiese found support from Jan Frylinck.

But the former South Africa international was outfoxed by a Bumrah slower delivery in the penultimate over, Sharma taking another catch to send the all-rounder packing for 26 off 25 balls.

By the time Ruben Trumpelmann had scored 13 off Shami’s 20th over, 37 runs had come from the final four, as Namibia left India needing 133 to sign off with a win.

Trumpelmann then switched to his primary suit of bowling and should have had the huge wicket of Sharma to his name, but Van Lingen dropped the Indian opener at short fine leg, allowing him to get off the mark.

Sharma had another life when a one-handed hack off Wiese somehow fell safely before he swatted the next ball for six behind square on the legside to get India going.

Another boundary off Trumpelmann’s second over brought up 3,000 T20I runs for Sharma but he again had a close shave when a mis-timed pull fell just short of the fielder.

Sharma and KL Rahul had India cruising as they raced to 54 without loss by the end of the powerplay.

And the former brought up an action-packed 50 off 31 balls, his second of the tournament, as India showed no sign of taking their foot off the gas.

Eventually, however, Namibia made a breakthrough with Frylinck dismissing Sharma for 56 as wicket-keeper Green held onto the catch to end the opening partnership of 86 one ball before the halfway point.

Sharma had dominated the strike with Rahul, but the latter upped the ante after losing his partner and was joined by Suryakumar Yadav who showed off his ability to score all around the ground in an entertaining unbeaten 25 from 19 balls.

Rahul brought up his third 50 of the tournament from 35 balls before hitting a boundary to end his side’s campaign in style with 28 balls to spare.

Scores in brief

India beat Namibia at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai by nine wickets

Namibia 132/8 in 20 overs (David Wiese 26, Stephan Baard 21; Ravindra Jadeja 3/16, Ravichandran Ashwin 3/20)

India 136/1 in 15.2 overs (Rohit Sharma 56, KL Rahul 54 not out; Jan Frylinck 1/19)

Player of the match: Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Virat Kohli speaking after the game:

Relief firstly (on leaving T20I captaincy). It's been a honor but things need to be kept at the right perspective. I felt this was the right time to manage my workload. It's been six or seven years of heavy workload and there is a lot of pressure. The guys have been fantastic, I know we haven't got the results here but we have played some really good cricket. The guys have really made my work easier. The way we played the last three games, it's a game of margins - T20 cricket these days. Two overs of attacking cricket at the top is what we were missing in the first two games. As I said, we weren't brave enough in those games and in the group we were in, it was tough.

A big thank you to all those guys (Ravi Shastri and his support staff). They have done a great job over the years, creating such a wonderful environment for the players. People loved to get back to the atmosphere. They have done a really great job. That (his aggression) is never going to change. The day it does, I'll stop playing cricket. Even before I became captain, I have always loved to contribute in some way or the other. Surya didn't get much game time in this World Cup, so I thought it will be a nice memory to take back. That was the idea (behind not batting himself).
