India, hurting from the Super 12 exit in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, will take on New Zealand, who have wounds of their own to heal after a loss in the final, in Jaipur in the first of the three T20Is.

Under a new coach and a new captain, India will be looking to hit the reset button with one eye on the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.

With Virat Kohli making way for a new leader in T20I cricket and Ravi Shastri stepping down at the end of the World Cup, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will be looking to steer India's new era in the shortest format of the game.

There are a few fresh faces in the squad while several familiar faces make a return as well. Including Rohit Sharma, only six players who were in the 15-man T20 World Cup squad have retained their places. The reserve players who travelled to the UAE - Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel - all find a place in the squad.

Venkatesh Iyer, Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel are in line to make their India debut while the likes Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj, who are currently on the fringes of the T20I setup, will be looking to a make case for themselves with the next World Cup not too far away.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have not had too much time to reflect on the loss to Australia in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 but will be looking to put it behind them when they face India in Jaipur.

They will be without captain Kane Williamson for the T20I series, who has directly joined the Test specialist group training in Jaipur for the two-match Test series against India that will take place between 25 November and 7 December. Tim Southee will stand in as captain for the three games.

New Zealand have the majority of the squad that travelled to the UAE for the World Cup available to them. They have been further boosted by the return of Lockie Ferguson to the squad who had to pull out of the tournament last month due to a calf tear.

India and New Zealand went head to head in the Super 12 stage of the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

Having lost their respective Group 2 opening game against Pakistan, both teams were in desperate need of a win. After being put in to bat first by New Zealand, India lost their way inside the Powerplay and were five down within 15 overs for just 73.

Some late resistance from Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja saved India the blushes as they limped to 110/7 in 20 overs. Trent Boult was the wrecker in chief with figures of 3/20 while Ish Sodhi once again proved to be a thorn in India's side, finishing 2/17 in four overs that included the huge wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

New Zealand cruised to a win without breaking a sweat. Daryl Mitchell, playing just his second match as an opener for New Zealand, fell just one run short of a half-century. Skipper Kane Williamson remained unbeaten on 33 as the Black Caps put their first points on board while India succumbed to their second loss.

KL Rahul on new India T20I captain Rohit Sharma: "There's nothing new about Rohit being captain. For as long as I can remember, he's been Mumbai Indians' captain, and his stats are there for everybody to see. He has a great understanding of the game and tactically he's really, really good, and that's why he's been able to achieve the kind of things that he has as a leader.

"We all enjoy watching Rohit bat and we all enjoy having him in the dressing room. He's a great guy to be around, so I'm sure he's excited and all of us in the team are excited to play under Rohit and he'll bring a lot of calm into the dressing room.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead on Lockie Ferguson's fitness: "I think he is pretty close. We will just make sure we get over there, travel okay and there are no issues like seizing up on the flight or anything like that. But I’d expect that he’s going to be available for selection, which will be fantastic."

Looking forward to seeing Venkatesh Iyer's performance. Have high expectations of him. Hope he delivers on the international stage, too and replaces the good-for-nothing Hardik Pandya. For good.

Regarding Hardiks replacement...I don't think either Shankar or Shivam were given enough opportunities to prove their mettle unlike Hardik.

I hope whoever is tried for that role is given ample opportunities.

Jaipur, New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jamieson will be skipping the three-match T20I series against India, starting from Wednesday, to focus on the two-match Test series which follows soon after.

Jamieson is the second player from the New Zealand camp after regular skipper Kane Williamson to prioritise playing in the Test series. The development was confirmed by New Zealand head coach Gary Stead.

"We decided through talking with Kane and Kyle that they won't play in this T20 series. They're both going to get ready for the Test matches and I think you'll find there will be other guys involved in the Test matches that won't play the entire series either. It's a bit of a balancing act at the moment and with three T20 games in five days plus travel to three different cities it's a very, very busy time," Stead said in a video interview released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

Apart from Jamieson and Williamson, stand-in T20I skipper Tim Southee, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell are other players in the T20I squad who are also named in the Test squad.

Stead stated all the 13 members in the T20I squad will get some game time in the T20Is. "You'll definitely see that the whole squad will get match time over here and that's about us managing the workload of the players, especially with the Test matches coming up for us, which will be a real key priority for us as we work through the next week."

Stead mentioned that pacer Lockie Ferguson, who missed the T20 World Cup due to calf injury, will be in the playing eleven for the first T20I against India.

"Lockie is likely to play (Wednesday). It's fantastic to get him back playing again. He's recovered really well from his calf injury which he picked up at the very start of the World Cup. So, exciting for him and our team to have him back in the bowling attack."

Stead expects India to be very strong in their home conditions. "They are still a very, very fine side. They have got a new coach in Rahul Dravid. I know that usually when a new coach comes on board, the people want to impress him and claim spots in the team. I certainly expect India will be very, very strong and will fire lots of shots at us. We just have to keep being positive and be really clear on the way we are going to play against these guys."

Not looking forward to it. Too much cricket that its tiring to even watch, let alone play.

WT20 is still fresh in mind

India got a good rest before this important series and NZ just played the final of a not so important world cup.

Smartly done by Indian team!

This series seems pointless after the WT20, should have been a ODI and Test series.

The result of this series means nothing, we already beat India when it mattered. No offense intended.

T20Is outside world cup is quite meaningless. This format of cricket should only be restricted to leagues and ICC event.

Will be good to watch some cricket again, going to be a good atmosphere. Looking forward to it

Who is BCCI’a fixture schedule secretary?

It dosent matter who is behind the schedule, Indian cricket will never have long breaks due to huge demand and money at stake. We have seen 2 Indian team playing simultaneously - one in Eng and another in SL. Such is the busy schedule and demand.

Management's role is key in situations like this where they need to ensure players are rested properly and rotation policy in place.

You guys are beating us when in mattered since 2000 Champions trophy when Chris Cairns played that blinder. We still havent figured it out how to beat Kiwis in ICC events :))

Bang on...No one give damn to these meaningless bilaterals
New Zealand also should not schedule any bilateral cricket against Australia as Aussies hammering New Zealand in every ICC knock out game since ages..No offence intended

In any case this is a great match up, battle of the jobbers

Neither you win the thing nor allow us to go through in ICC events.

India v NZ and Pakistan v BD, both serieses look pointless, unless you give chance to many new players. But obviously alot of money involved here, so they will grab every little window that exists.

India have won the toss and have opted to field

Falling out of love with T20 cricket a bit at the moment... too much of a good thing. Really looking forward to upcoming test cricket in particular Ashes and India tour of South Africa.

Well, even the BCCI has to make a few bucks. So T20's are the best way to do that.

A great opportunity for both the teams who failed to win t20 world cup to finally win something (even if it's a bilateral series).

Not in Jaipur. The place is as dry as a cracker.

I only said that because Sunny said there is dew...

But clearly batting conditions have improved through the course of the innings. That may just be the wicket freshening up at night
Like the Dubai wicket

So when can we expect India to finally win a T20 World Cup? It's been more than 14 years now. :inti
Even Australia waited more than that to win their maiden T20 cup. In a format like T20, you need bit of luck to win a tournament.
All I am saying is that IPL is not to blame for India’s poor run. If it was, then both Australian and Kiwis wouldn’t be in the finals. Even the two-time World cup winner West Indies regularly play IPL.

IPL is an Indian league so logically it will be blamed for India's poor run in ICC tournaments. How many NZ and Aus players play in IPL and how many of them warm the bench? Kindly compare that to Indian players who play in IPL. :inti

Southee's shirt hit me ball gets despatched and it sounds as Sunny has had an orgasim...

Have to mute it

Sky in. I still think investing in Sky isn't a wise decision.

How is this game happening so quickly, only yesterday did the WT20 got over?

Is World T20 really over or did India made a wildcard entry thanks to the evil powerhouse that BCCI is?

Good over from Santner. 6 from it and a wicket.

India - 56/1 after 6 overs (target: 165).

Frustrated to see this indian team beating NZ in meaningless t20 and bottle in world tournament. Losers
