England came roaring back in the 2nd ODI to inflict a 100-run win - Can they carry on the momentum or will India hit back?

England unchanged at Emirates Old Trafford

No surprise that England go in with the same XI that destroyed India by 100 runs at Lord's on Thursday to level the series. Captain Jos Buttler said he would have batted first today and has got his wish with Rohit opting to bowl after winning the coin flip.

Bumrah out for India as Siraj comes in

A blow for the tourists as Jasprit Bumrah - who picked up a superb 6-19 when India thumped England by 10 wickets in the first ODI at The Kia Oval on Tuesday - misses out with a back niggle. Fellow paceman Mohammed Siraj steps in.

Topley: It could feel like an away game

Plenty of India fans are expected to pack into Emirates Old Trafford for this crunch clash and TOPLEY feels it could make England feel like the visiting side…

“I'm expecting a pretty good atmosphere in Manchester, almost like an away game really, but that's the kind of thing you want to practice. It is a big game, especially with the T20 World Cup later this year. You want those ‘win or you're out of it’ sort of games.”

Pitch looks a belter. Inspite of Siraj outstanding 1st over. Roy looking in good touch

Crazy start by both sides.

India in control and then England bouncing back at 8 an over now.

England probably will score 250 and get bowled out at 40th over mark and 250 could be a good fighting total too.

Hardik, the genuine all rounder arrives and gets his second wicket in the decider of this series.

2.2 overs, 2 runs, 2 wickets

Amazing performance :inti

There has been some terrible batting from English batsmen throughout this series. Stokesy threw it away superb bowling from hardik to 2nd guess Stokes

What has happened to England’s top order in white ball cricket? Terrible batting again. It’s not the conditions this time. Joe Root got a good ball early on but aside from that it’s just poor shots.

Need main pacers who can bowl like he does. Bloke is so good he makes the team currently on bowling alone

He will play an important role to India's success in World Tournaments. Without him, India probably don't stand a chance of winning ICC tournaments. Last time around injuries didn't helped his cause. But he made a great comeback by leading his IPL team to trophy. Hopefully, he can maintain this form throughout as he has the tournament winning mentality.

Agreed that we need top order and other main pacers( apart from Bumrah) to fire otherwise it is obviously hard for all rounders who generally impact the game later on. :inti

You said the exact same thing before T20WC in UAE as well. We all saw what happened there. :facepalm :inti

Hardik once again giving false hopes to his fans. :inti

What do you mean by false hope? Its an international cricket against a top side like England against whom he is performing. Why it is false?

He might fail or do well in ICC events later but that is true for every player. Are you saying even though he is performing well, fans should not expect anything from him just bcoz he failed in last ICC tournament?

He was having fitness issue last time around. There is nothing can be done for fitness. He showed what he is capable of already in CT2017 and WC 2019. And next WT20 and 2023 WC will be no different. Even Tendulkar flopped in one or two icc tournaments like WC 2007 :facepalm

Undoubtedly, he is India's most valuable cricketer going around in LOIs alongwith Bumrah while Pant is India's most valuable cricketer in Tests alongside Bumrah. :inti

India's most valuable cricketer by formats on current form:-

Tests :-

1. Bumrah
2. Pant :inti

LOIs :-

1. Bumrah
2. Pandya :inti

Credit must be given to the Indian Pacemen and that's without their leader, they've had the measure of the daunting England top order in all games so far .

Buttler battling it out to resurrect England now. England need a captian knock from him. Time to play those weathering the storm knocks now rather than quickfire 60s and 70s which he used to do at 150 strike rate.

India are favorites to lift the T20WC this time then? :inti

Pandya has England in his pocket. The English batters have no idea how to play him

Pandya's resurgence as an all-rounder has been quite impressive. He has made himself an indispensable member of India's limited-overs side.

This feels like a Test match at the moment. Good tight bowling from India and two England batsmen playing themselves in, picking up the odd 4

No need to discuss Babar on this thread.

ENG 148/4 (26.2) CRR: 5.62

Excellent recovery by England.

That's a very good catch by Pant.. Ali gone.. jadeja strikes in his 2nd ball..

Loved this series. An exciting roller coaster ride all the way. Just when England started to look threatening Ali goes. Butler got to bat til the very end. You never know what will be a good total here with India batting form equally uncertain. feels like 270 odd will be testing

Regarding discussion on Pandya, he is hit the deck sort of bowler and work well on bouncy pitches something on offer in plenty on this deck. I believe is getting into good rhythm and full fitness.

his pace is also decent, might be handful in Australia

Prasidh Krishna's action looks very similar to Shane Bond. I like this kid, getting good bounce, has potential.

Interesting pitches in this series.

Deceptively flat. The ball can stick in the pitch occasionally. And there is variable bounce

Pandya is bowling very well and bending his back. I would not bowl him in Asian pitches and only will preserve him for SENA conditions.

What a high quality knock this has been from Jos Buttler! I always like it when guys who are more known for playing selflessly and at high strike rate impact knocks find themselves in these situations and save their team from here.

ABD used to do the same too. When he would come at 3 wickets down early, he would score his first 30 runs of 45 balls and then by the time he moves into 70s and 80s, that strike rate would automatically go past 100.

Brainless batting from England. Went too early. This innings has felt like a constant rebuild

India deserve to win this series, the England batting has been appalling

Poor batting from buttler and livingstone. Still 13 overs to go all they needed to do was bat the 50 overs to put weak indian batting out of this game

I agree. Senseless batting

Yes. Could have cruised to 300+ together

Really poor

Wow , just wow. All the hard work done by butler down the drain. He should have resisted already lost a wicket. Now England need to play out all 50 overs and be happy with whatever total they get. Indian batting is jittery and this pitch has lot of pace and bounce to offer

I think that is England's approach going to be. That worked for them. So won't change now with Overton coming in at 9. Bit of a shocker an inform guy like Root getting out for almost nothing. Don't think that will happen consistently.

Just a slight bit of praise and it turns out to be a curse for Buttler! But personally I enjoy Buttler's batting.

Maybe bazball does'nt work every time, one size dose'nt fit all. But yeah, some very ordinary batting but you gotta also give credit to some tigerish fielding and catchiing as well

Why is Rohit still bowling spinner, get your pacers from both the ends and wrap up english inning. That catch by Jaddu was simply stunning

88% of t he balls bowled by Pandya to livingstone to was short. He succumbed eventually. Needled the ego and prized out the wicket.

Baz isn’t involved in the white ball setup.

India have batted, fielded, and caught very well — no doubt about that.

Livingstone is not a mentally strong player.

I don’t rate him as highly as many Lancashire and England fans seem to.

England favorites once again. This is another bat first venue and apart from Hardik, bowlers haven't done too well. I expect us to lose by 70-80 runs

Give Pandya a couple of overs, he is bowling well and might get a 5-fer right away.

41 overs, 226 runs. They just need to get to 250 and that could be a match winning total here.

There is no death over bowler in this game for India. Siraj picks wickets but always leaks a lot of runs and nothing different today. Prasidh seems to be not enjoying these conditions. He will be better in Aus, SA and Indian pitches where there is bounce.

This England approach works more often than not with deep batting line up. I don't think they have anything to change in their approach. Pretty solid strategy.

The purpose of having a vice captain is to groom a young guy as the next captain. We've let two chances slip in the sense that we had overhyped swing legend Sir Bhuvi Sobers as the VC on the Ireland tour and now we have Rav jads for the WI tour. Both are in their 30's and never gonna captain India.
Surely, we've missed a trick here. Secondly, no young up coming paceman on the WI tour - i wish umraan was selected. We've got to throw him in soon else he will end up wasted.

This pitch has got very good bounce. Prasidh looks just out of sorts

He is mentally weak. He has all good qualities to become a good bowler. But he will never be one.

I don't think it is fair to call anyone as mentally weak or strong based on one match or one series.

You have to see a player for years to find out how he reacts to different adversities of the game. Then only words like "mentally strong or weak" falls in picture.

What a crazy game this from england. They just want to smoke chahal no intention of playing out 50 overs

Leaving 25 balls unused due to slogging is absolutely criminal from England. Pathetic, arrogant planning and I’m raging about it. Hopefully England lose badly and get a lesson.

There is no way they are going to change this approach. This is ENgland's religion now.

Yes England dont deserve to win. Credit to pandya as well his bowling has improved

I get it England is an aggressive side but this is the most wreckless dumb idiotic approach I’ve seen towards an innnings not being able to play 50 overs in all 3 games only because they want to hit every single ball out of the park. I have never seen this type of idiotic cricket in my life

Some really poor shot selection from the England bats once again. Not to bat out the full allotment of overs is a cardinal sin! But full credit to the Indian Attack
