Well that was abysmal. At least we got some points from the first Test and there's no bonus points for margins of victory.

Congrats to India on the series win.

Man is a specialist captain these days :kohli

Funny thing is he can't even win when it matters most :kohli

We have more ICC trophy than any other country in the world cricket except Australia.you needs a burnol

Yeah and we've humiliated India so many times when it's mattered most on the world stage that I've lost count.

Thanks to home condition and 6 day otherwise your team can't even enter in WTC finals .
Complaining about advantages when you have literally everything in your favor and you still can't win anything significant :sree

Did your Team achive anything other than WTC final . loosing all the final to Australia like minnow nation. Win any test series away from home first then talk about.

We're the inaugural WTC.

That's the greatest accomplishment in the format.

The only world title you can win in the format, this team has already etched itself in history.

Without win away series , got lucky with final beating other team in home.

IND 325 & 276/7 d

NZ 62 & 167

India won by 372 runs

Atleast Bangladesh would have given better fight than thease KIWI's
Bangla played much better than nz.
Nz can only win in favorable conditions.

Kane is coward and too defensive in first test.
Latham is better captain than Kane, he won a test against England. They would have lost the series if Kane was a captain in second test.

Your record since 2000 in Aus, Ind and Sa combined is a single victory in 30 odd tests that too with a huge margin of 7 runs.
Your combined record in Aus, Ind, Eng and Sa is like 3/4 victories is 40+ tests.

Congratulations to India for winning the India vs Ajaz Patel series!

I'm just wondering why was the IPL and T20 WC moved to Dubai (& Oman) if they were able to play this series in India??

You can raise that banner while we hold the WTC.

Indians have downplayed the WTC, looking for every excuse but that doesn't change reality, infact all the sulking just proves how important that title really was.

A multi lateral tourney requires much more planning & preparations in advance than say a bilateral series.

Due to Covid, that wasn't possible.

Congrats to India on the series win.

Would the presence of Williamson made a difference. Why wasn't Wagner played? or Santner?

Nope, we lose here every time regardless of what changes we make.

Just not experienced enough in these conditions. Only way to make it close is more experience here.

Nothing beats experience.

Of the 14 successive series wins, India came the closest to losing during the last series vs Australia.

I think Australia will again be the team who will be the biggest challengers to this unbeaten record.

Rubbish cricket by NZ this match. Only Ajaz turned up, when they were batting looked like they didn't want to be there, disappointing after their fight in Kanpur. Win or lose at least try your best, what was that by Ross Taylor yesterday evening? This victory feels hollow, WTC champs played like a minnow team, would have needed 3 more innings to match India's match aggregate the way they were throwing their wickets.

First test was a good chance for New Zealand to win. Disappointed by Williamson. He should have made the start count and gotten NZ to a big total in first inning.

Root and Smith have won one test in India each with their performances from bat.

Like I said earlier, they didn't trust their defence against the spinners. Only way to get better in these conditions is to regularly play here and learn. Not going to get anything from 2 Test match series every 5 years.

Mayank almost matched the NZ batters this test

Mayank 150+62=212 runs

11 NZ batsmen across 2 innings 59+155 (15 extras)=214 runs

Crazy domination!!!! How rare is this? I remember once Hayden did something similar against Pak in UAE.

Disappointing from Ross Taylor, I think this is his 4th test tour to India, has played 10+ matches here. Should have shown more fight when some far less experienced batsmen were at least trying their best. Maybe the shot of a man playing his last test.

Pity this was just 2 tests long. Would love to see Ind and NZ playing 3 or 4 match series since they are the two best test sides in world cricket at present. If we can play 5 against Eng why not more than 2 against NZ? Even NZ at home prefers to play just 2 tests per series, everyone is after T20 money.

India completed a massive 372-run victory against New Zealand within the first hour of the fourth morning to win the two-match Test series 1-0.

The victory gave India 12 ICC World Test Championship points for the ongoing cycle, leaving them at No.3 on the standings table with total 42 points and a points percentage of 58.33. New Zealand were at No.6, with a PCT of 16.66.

Resuming the day at a tentative 140/5, after R Ashwin had dismantled the top order on the third evening, New Zealand needed Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra to get stuck in and build a partnership. Unfortunately for the visitors, Jayant Yadav wasn’t accommodating.

Yadav returned 4 for 49, with all his wickets coming in the morning. Ravindra did pick him for a few boundaries, employing the sweep to good effect, but Yadav hit back, drawing Ravindra forward and inducing the edge to second slip.

In his next over, Jayant snared both Kyle Jamieson and Tim Southee. He first had Jamieson trapped in front with one that turned sharply into him, and two balls later, tempted Southee into stepping out, and cleaned him up.
In his next over, Jayant took his fourth, Will Somerville popping a catch to short leg, where Mayank Agarwal did well to hold on despite a juggle.

Ashwin completed his own four-wicket haul in the next over, tempting Nicholls to come down the track, before deceiving him with spin – Wriddhiman Saha completed an excellent stumping, and the victory was sealed.

10 matches over his entire Test career of 14 years.

That's quite a lot for a New Zealand player. Is there a location (bar NZ) where he's played more?

He was also captain in 2012 IIRC.

Given that NZ lost this Test by 372 runs, and escaped in the last Test which had time lost due to bad light, I doubt any further Tests would have been competitive. Given the way NZ got hammered by Aus, I would hesitate to say they are better than Aus. No shame in that, NZ is a small country and it is fantastic that a country with such a small population can produce competitive teams.

10 matches over his entire Test career of 14 years.

Given how less Ind and NZ play against each other in test cricket that is still quite impressive.

I mean Kohli may retire just playing 4 tests in NZ. Sachin in his 24 years long career played just 11 matches in NZ without missing a single test due to injury or anything. Dravid played just 7 tests in NZ in his 16 years long career.

That's ok, rarely do visiting teams trouble India in India. We have dropped 2 home tests since 2013, that is an insane record. Ind and NZ must play longer series, even we lost 0-2 in NZ and both matches got over in just over 3 days, but still we must play longer series there even if it means 0-3 or 0-4. Both are elite sides, 2 test series is ok against Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, not against these guys.

NZ has a mental block against Aus, they always lose irrespective of venue or format. Can't explain it, no matter how good NZ is and how bad Aus is, when they face each other the result always feels inevitable.

But I do believe NZ is the better side and the test ranking table is proof of that. NZ has a better W-L ratio at home the last 4-5 years, second best in the world behind India. But they have also competed well overseas, beat Eng in Eng (2-0), beat Pak in UAE (brilliant achievement), drew in SL. Aus drew in Eng (fantastic cricket and worthy of respect) but last time lost in SA, Ind (fought hard), UAE, SL (0-3 whitewash against a poor Lankan side), they couldn't even win the series in Bangladesh. Moreover they lost at home to Ind twice, to a poor SA team as well the last time they met.

Since 2016 Ind has the best resume IMO, NZ 2nd. Aus has good players but the results have been underwhelming for their level of talent, they have done some home bullying and had two good overseas tours to Eng/Ind but too many lows including 3 home series losses and surrenders in SL/Dhaka. Yes they bully NZ all the time but we can't rank teams just based on H2H against one side. Federer in his prime years always lost to Nadal but was still ranked number one because he did better against the overall field.

Yeah, being crap due to playing less cricket in a country is just an excuse. If anything, quite a few NZers play IPL every year in India something which the likes of Tendulkar, Dravid or Kohli didn't have the luxury of.

Even then they played some great innings in NZ. IF you're a good player, you'll adjust.

New Zealand has not won a Test series in India in their 12 attempts. Last they won a Test match in India was way back 1988 at Wankhede where Hadlee took a 10fer.

Kiwis has also lost 8 out of their last 10 test matches in India since 2010-11.

Ashwin MoS in all 3 test series he has played against NZ at home, 2012, 2016, 2021. Also surpasses Hadlee to pick most wickets in Ind-NZ tests, 66 in 17 innings. Hadlee took 65 in 24 innings.

You are having serious meltdown Aman...Stop embarassing yourself with all the salty comments... India far better team than New Zealand this series and they completely annihilate Kiwis like thrashing some minnow team.. Whole series in every thread you giving only excuses..And it's seriously looking very funny the way you hiding behind WTC after every humiliation..

A true modern-day great, Virat Kohli led the Indian cricket team to another stupendous performance in the longest format of the game, winning the 2-match Test series 1-0 against New Zealand on Monday. The occasion put Kohli in another illustrious list of records in international cricket as the India skipper became the first cricketer ever to register 50 wins or more in each of the three formats of the game.

Kohli is widely considered as one of the finest batters in the world across the three formats of the game. Be it Tests, ODIs or T20Is, the 32-year-old has been central to the national team's success on the global stage no matter which format is talked about. As Kohli reached a half-century of wins in Test cricket, the BCCI took to Twitter to congratulate him on the unique record.

"Congratulations @imVkohli. The first player with 50 international wins in each format of the game," the board tweeted on the occasion.

Virat Kohli in Tests: 50 wins from 97 matches (2011 to 2021)
Virat Kohli in ODIs: 153 wins in 254 matches (2008 to 2021)
Virat Kohli in T20Is: 59 wins in 95 matches (2010 to 2021)

Kohli had missed the first match of the series in Kanpur but made his presence count in the Mumbai Test. India's 372-run win over the Kiwis at Wankhede didn't just earn Kohli his 50th Test win but also helped him seal the fate of the series 1-0.

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Kohli said: "To come back with a win again, it's a great feeling and a clinical performance. You want individuals to step up. The first Test was good, and it was a clinical performance here. We discussed the performance and the opposition played out a good draw. The bowlers tried all their best, but the Kiwi batsmen stuck it out really well in Kanpur. Here there was more bounce and the fast bowlers got assistance as well, so it gave us a better chance to win the Test match."

Virat Kohli would now shift focus to India's tour of South Africa where the two teams will lock horns in 3 Tests and as many ODIs. The first match of the series will be held on December 26.

Whattay player!

It doesn't even feel that he did a lot in this test and still ends the series as the best player over two tests.

Even though he scored just 70 odd runs in Kanpur both his knocks were high impact and clutch, any day prefer those over soft, meaningless 50s. Some runs are good only for stats columns, some are good for the team.

At 51/5 on day 4 morning I thought we were going to be blown away for a sub-100 total handing our perennial tormentors an easy target like the WTC final. Even Iyer was struggling against Southee who was in the middle of a dream spell. Ashwin's counterattack there in that partnership with Iyer deflated NZ and took us to a somewhat safe score. Those were some clutch runs, was so nervous that morning.

Also the best bowler statistically, 14 wickets at 11 a piece.

Not a super dominant series as per his usual standards but nobody else from India had a mammoth series to take the MoS award away from him. Ashwin has had better series with no MoS like 2013 WI, 2016 Eng but you had some other player with an epic performance. No standout this time, was more of a team effort where 5-6 players chipped in across the 2 tests. Had Iyer done better here or Mayank in Kanpur, even a 50 say, I think either of those 2 would have won the award.

Exactly, great players will do well even with less cricket. NZ's McCullum had a monster series here in 2010-11, scored a 200 and drew that test for his team almost singlehandedly. Steve Smith didn't have much experience in India but dominated the 2017 series on tougher pitches than the ones we have laid out for NZ, 499 runs with 3 100s.

And it isn't like NZ rarely play on such pitches. They have played enough tests in Bangladesh, Lanka, UAE to have some idea about behavior of pitches in this part of the world. And they did win the series in UAE, credit to them. But cold, hard facts point the fact that they have struggled in India and Australia when it comes to test cricket.

They must improve in India, just like how we must look to do better in NZ in the future.

True. We play very little cricket in NZ but we never offer this excuse for us being crap there in tests. NZ beats us fair and square in NZ and vice versa.

India skipper Virat Kohli backed Ajinkya Rahane despite the veteran batsman's dry spell and absence from Monday's thumping second Test win over New Zealand, promising his team will support past performers. Rahane, who led the hosts in the drawn opening Test and managed scores of just 35 and four, missed the final game due to a hamstring niggle as Kohli returned from a break to take his place. The 33-year-old has averaged under 20 in 12 matches this year and his injury pull-out was judged by Indian media as a respectable way to drop him in Mumbai.

"I can't judge his form. No one can judge it. Only the individual knows what he's going through," Kohli told reporters.

"We need to back them in these moments, especially when they have done well in the past. We don't have this environment where we have our players asking 'what happens now?'."

Kohli said the team was unaffected by outside criticism of individual performances.

"We support everybody in the side, Ajinkya or anyone. We don't take decisions based on what happens outside," he added.

'Good year', 'good headache'

India won the second Test by 372 runs to clinch the series 1-0 in Mumbai.

Kohli said his team were flying high despite losing the World Test Championship final to New Zealand in June and failing to reach the T20 World Cup semi-finals last month.

"The year has been very good for us, we have played very good cricket. There were two setbacks in T20 World Cup and World Test Championship," he said.

"Victories in England and in Australia gave us a lot of confidence. See, the Indian team is expected to win everything but that's not realistic, we know what we need to work on and improve on and look forward."

Opener Mayank Agarwal was named man of the match in Mumbai for his 150 and 62 in India's dominant batting show.

The team is currently brimming with young talent including Shreyas Iyer, who sparkled on debut in the first Test with 105 and 65 to make his case in the long-format team.

Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj took three wickets in the Blackcaps' first innings, while off-spinner Jayant Jadav returned career-best figures of 4-49.

"It's a good situation to be in, we've had injuries in the lead-up, so we need to manage our players physically and mentally," said coach Rahul Dravid.

"It's going to be a large part of my challenge. Challenge too for the selectors and the leadership group. It's a good headache to have."

India now travel to South Africa for three Tests starting December 26 followed by three one-day internationals in a tour shortened by worries over the new Covid Omicron variant.

India should be disappointed that they've not won this series 2-0 against this sorry New Zealand side. Apart from Ajaz Patel they've played like a bunch of rookies.

NZ have been made to look sorry because we were too strong even without the presence of quite a few of our first choice players.

A real thumping.

Congrats to India and commiserations NZ.
