What's new

India (390/5) thrash Sri Lanka (73) by 317 runs to win the 3rd ODI and sweep series 3-0

NZ has never won a ODi sereis ever in India. What should we think about NZ then? NZ is your home ground. What has NZ dones in other parts against other countries? Nothing. Do not focus on one country. You have to do well against everyone consistently. Only teams that actually win a tournament can brag. Others just have to keep quiet.

Thread is about India vs SL

Can we stick to it before we start deleting posts

Kohli is in that 360 degree zone in these final 10 overs, similar to ABD.

Is he back in form? I am not sure. He has done far worse to cummins/starc and other guys. Lett us see.

Finally Kohli stopped skipping JAMODIs and looks like he’s getting back in form. Next, he should start playing FC to regain his test form.

So many full tosses. Srilanka bowling line up cannot survive on flat pitches. But their batting is okayish though. Just that they don't have big innings players.

Dravid by far one of the worst coaches. Goes with a rigid plan and doesn't change irrespective of game situation. SKY should have come at 4. If he would have got going India would have been close o 450+. 370s against teams like ENG or AUS will not be safe.

Even if India has a top inform team under Dravid they will falter. They don't even have basic out of the box thinking

Don't get why Yadav isn't given a long rope at 5.

Could be lethal for India there.

India not doing that could prove costly, like their whole #4 debacle for the 2019 WC where they couldn't figure out their number 4.

Extremely poor from Sky.

He could have been dismissed on each delivery he played in this innings..

India really don't have a number 5 and the WC is around the corner. Most teams have their XI figured out.

Rahul remains poor, still gets to play whenever he likes to play or whenever he has time.

Yuvraj, Raina and Dhoni to KL, Hardik and Axar. Indian late order has had a steep decline.

5 and 6 are definitely weird spots for India.

Axar at 7 is solid, maybe could be a bit high but he's scoring runs. Similar to Santner.

Teams with batting depth would prefer to have a player like that at 8.

considering the start we got, the conditions, the attach, we are at least 35 short. TM has to be more dynamic with sending in Surya ahead of KL.

What do you expect with 2 overs to go? He should have been tried at 4 for this match. Anyways even if he scored a 30 ball 100 Shreyas would be back at 4 in next match. I hope India gets knocked out in league stage at the WC so that the coaching staff and captain can be changed.

Yeah, your middle order is going to be a worry again. Top 3 will need to do the bulk of the scoring like 2019, but then your middle order was exposed for the KOs.

This is definitely a better Kohli innings than his innings against Bangladesh and previous innings against SL.

Jadeja will be back at 7, as he is a more solid option than Axar

Santner is average and Axar is poor man's Santner

Pandaya at 7 (floater role) and Axar at 8 works.

Rahul at 5 and whoever at 6? Is weak.

Yadav could have worked out at 5/6 and you could have alternated between the two given the situation.

8 sixes by Kohli This is the highest no. of sixes by Kohli in a ODI innings. beating his previous record of 7 sixes against Australia during his 100 in 52 balls.

Rohit
Gill
Kohli
Iyer
Rahul/SKY

Pandaya

Whoever your inform spinner is
Shami
Bumrah

Think tank is so pig headed, just can't seem to think out of the box.

Pandya is Vijay Shankar circa 2019. Atleast Vijay Shankar was a good fielder. Rohit and Kohli are not the same now. Bumrah has forgot to take wickets. Only thing better is, it is a home tourney. But then again these guys dont handle pressure like the class of 2011.

5 bowlers don't work in a 50 over tournament, defo need a sixth bowler.
Also, Pandya won't bowl 10 overs every match

Rohit
Gill( kishan is backup now)
Kohli
Shreyas/KL
KL/SKY
Pandya
Jadeja
Kuldeep
Siraj
Bumrah
Shami/Umran/Prasidh

That's the team. They have to figure out the third pacer and two middle order spot between Iyer, Rahul and SKY.

Siraj has taken over from Shami. It is between Shami and Umran for third pacer and maybe Prasidh as well who is currently out from a long time due to injury.

I forgot about Jadeja lol.

Jadeja in for Axar and then you get in your in form spinner.

If Pandaya is not going to bowl, is he worth having in the team? In that case you might be better off looking at another hard hitting batting A/R who can give you at least 5 overs.

The only problem with this is that the top 3 consists of players who play at the same tempo.
Ideally Kohli should play at 4, Shaw or Kishan to open with Rohit and Gill at 3.

Umran would be a disaster, seems like a bowler most teams would love to face. Comes on to the bat and doesn't offer too much else from that (from the little I saw of him in NZ). Bumrah is a lock, haven't seen much of Shami and Siraj so can't say. Shami has looked pretty good whenever I have seen him so had him in there.

Pandya will bowl for sure but not 10 overs, on average you can think of getting 6 overs from him.

Watching the same game on the same planet m8? pandya== Vijay shankar - seriously?...bumrah forgot to take wickets ??? - oval, lords and joburg 2021 says HI ...dont handle pressure like class of 2011...wow-- so how did they pull off several epic overseas victories?

Only one of Axar or Washy should be playing as a 5 bowler attack. Today's bowling lineup is matching SL attack ( except for Siraj ). SL can feast on finger spinners.

Too late to make that change now as I also feel Kohli won't be as effective at 4 as he is at 3. He is slightly weaker vs spin than pace.

The top 3 will be this only and there is a chance that in an ICC knockout, a certain left arm pacer can trouble this top 3 with the new bowl and then it will be on middle order and bowlers if they can save us.

You need a Finn Allen type batmen opening with Rohit/Gill. Someone just there to hit and make use of the PPs.

Umran gives runs but takes wickets against the run of play. That is very important.

Bumrah, Siraj and Umran should be our fast bowling unit..
On form Siraj is our best odi bowler.

IPL participants know how to play on Indian pitches. There is no real home advantage for India due to this.

Pandya in ODIs are a liability. Bumrah has 18 wickets in 14 matches ( avg 38)since last WC.

Idk, have never been a fan of those kind of bowlers. Bowl fast and offer nothing else, only way you cna get away with it is if you can move the ball or have a good reliable yorker or bouncer. A point of difference between two skillful medium pace bowlers.

Gill was always projected as next Kohli. Now seeing them together was really good. Bit like Kohli and Tendulkar playing together.

About 6 months plus to go for WC. i'd still back Jazz-boom and his yorker ability to get it right in this time frame, injuries and all .
our pace attack has to read Siraj, Jazzboom, umraan +pandys/jads/washi as the allrounders with shami, prasidh/mavi in reserves.
A fit jazzboom and a match fit jazz boom at that will defo make the cut. i agree he has bombed in a lot of WC tourneys, but i feel this is his chance, and he gonnna make this big this time

Not just IPL, most teams have players playing in leagues across the SC and CPL (where pitches are more SC like).

A player like Phillips has basically played in every T20 league in the world and is capable of going off.

That and the pitches wont be turning much. It's just the the bounce, slight drop in pace and turn. It's nothing significant, it was daunting and gave SC teams an advantage before but now players are use to it and can score.

Umran is a middle order enforcer and has been a genuine wicket taker. But his performance vs Australia and other top teams(SENA ones) will decide his fate.

Shami is good with the new bowl in initial overs but soon his pace goes down and fails to maintain the same quality throughout his 10 overs. He is also a poor death over bowler. His two matches vs SL were really awful.

Siraj is again a strike bowler with new bowl. He tried to bowl more fuller length than a Bumrah or Shami would and always go for wickets. He has got the wickets upfront consistently in most games jn last one year in absence of Bumrah/Shami and should be a must in this team. Due to some poor selection, they picked him in T20s vs NZ but didn't picked him in ODIs. It was a mistake from them but now they have corrected it.

But India has the most varied pitches in the world. Varied conditions. So far i have no idea whatt pitches they are going to play on. On the same Trivandrum pitch India reduced SA to 8 for 5 with unplayable swing bowling. Today 390 odd with no real grass. India's weakness will be turning pitches.

ICC will be preparing pitches so I'm expecting 250-320 type pitches.

Nothing too extreme either way, something for the bowlers to bowl at. Nothing too flat otherwise fans will complain about games being boring and batsmen having it easy.

You can't predict anything here. They are not going to dig up pitch and create new one. Basic nature will remain the same. Mohli, Wankhede will be bouncy. Chennai might turn. Eden Gardens will help seamers in the evening. Delhi will be slow and low.

Kusal Mendis is the only name I recognize.

Been a massive generational change for the SL team in recent years.

ICC have always done this.

Fans have complained about ODIs being played roads and ODIs dying then come an ICC event, there are good pitches prepared. That and the fact pressure is on players, it makes games interesting and we don't get 350 v 350 bores.
