What's new

India (518/5d & 124/3) defeat West Indies (248 & 390 (f/o) by 7 wickets in second Test to complete a clean sweep in the 2-match Test series

Good case of why follow on can be silly when your bowlers have bowled tons of overs already. Bowlers looking tired in the 2nd innings while the batters are fresh not having to grind out in the field. India would have been better off just to bat for a couple of sessions, score runs quickly and give the bowlers some rest while you completely demoralize the opposition and tire them out having to field.

Great fightback from WI though.

I too was surprided when Gulli enforced F-on ... IND should have batted for 45 overs & perhaps 10 today , got 220ish & declared imo .

new ball after 2 overs ... 258/3 , looking at how slow deck is , 400 def possible !
Ya

Dumb Gambir instead of giving rest to bowers and batting longer or batting again I mean he ended up now conceding the lead lmao

WI 23/4 with 50 overs left in the day .. If the game goes to day 5 , it will be trouble for IND .

Boom ... 307/8
Goat does goat things
Even on crappy flat decks

And also respect is siraj

What a bowler

Better than shoaib akthar tbh. I am serious.
One good series away in nz then he is better than Waqar too.

I rate him highly

He is a top top bowler

Better than Starc. On par with Hazlewood

These pitches (maybe with a bit more turn) are ideal for India. Virtually invincible on these pitches.

Of course, the path to victory is slower and more boring but takes out the upsets on lottery pitches.

But sometimes it’s good to have rank turners if we are up 2 nil lol
Just for the lols

Bully teams quickly. Yes lottery but if we are 2 nil up then it’s fine.

I dislike GG ... he is a gadhaa !
u gotta show more respect than that mate...!
Sitting here and typing away where as he's delivered on the CT 2025, the Asia cup 2025 and took a rookie side to powerful England in their conditions and drew the series - actually dominated the series. Ours is also a team in transition and it aint easy to handle the personnel changes, having three captains for all the formats, the intra dynamics of a captain playing as a player, some guys playing only one format.
What ever he is, he showed the passion and reverance for playing for the country and now is showing the same in his position.

He lost 0 3 at home because coolie and fat ro were selected.
That is unpardonable imo.

He should be LOI coach absolutely

Tests ? Nope

A lot of Ro-Ko fans blame Gambhir for retiring their legends - Kohli and Rohit from Tests. Imagine their reaction if Gambhir would have dropped them even before the NZ series.

They would have burned his house FFS.

This has been a good fight from Windies. They will still likely lose by 10 wickets but can take some heart from the way their batsmen stood up and fought.

He IS GGG ... last for Gadhaa .
on topic , 71 run partnership for 10th wicket till now , well done Windies .

I have the membership this month & I’ve not been able to see any of the Tests due to bad timing, and it’s a Monday now!! WI would do well to set up a target of 150.

Terrific resistance by these two for the last wicket. Gill should give Reddy atleast one or two overs.

Well done West Indies, this is how you play the test game henceforth.

India's plan of beating West Indies asap & catching that plane to Australia early has gone flat just like the pitch at Kotla.

As i said earlier here , ugly stadium & pitch !
that i agree - stadium is the ugliest morph of a parking lot/flyover/ turning stairs & badi mehrbaani they removed the unsightly paan masala advts that was plastered on every nook and cranny of this horrific aperture!

This pitch is still good to bat on. The turn is slow. Batters hv enough time to adjust to the turn (if any). The windies last pair added 80 runs easily. That says it all. (A target of 350+ would hv threatened Ind though)

Black soil wicket. Will be fine for the first two sessions tomorrow. Plenty of time for India to get the result.

Should have been a 1o wicket trashing but anyway... India winning easily is enough... 9 wicket win loading?

Jaiswal went for a six and holed out. It doesn't matter how many wickets fall. On an utter road wicket this is a good effort.

I think it is a correct decision to enforce follow on.On a pitch where the only chance of wickets are with new ball, you need time to take 10 wickets. The pitch is slow and batsmen are able to play kuldeep off the back-foot easily.Had India batted, it would be double minds on the safe target vs time to take 10 wickets.GG has played his entire career on this wicket. Let's just trust his instincts. These arm chair critics know nothing and are just trolls.

India sealed a decisive seven-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, completing a dominant 2-0 series sweep on Tuesday.

Chasing a modest target of 121, India began the final day on 63/1 and required just 58 more runs for victory. KL Rahul was the anchor of the morning session, carrying his bat to an impressive unbeaten 58 to guide the hosts home.

Rahul initially partnered with Sai Sudharsan (39), the duo sharing a crucial 79-run stand for the second wicket that effectively ended the contest. Although the West Indies secured two quick wickets-off-spinner Roston Chase (2/36) dismissing both Sudharsan and Captain Shubman Gill (13), the target was too small to defend. Rahul and wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel (6 not out) ensured there were no further scares, guiding India past the finish line in 35.2 overs.

Series Win!
Our guys really worked hard to win this. Also this was not a raging turner, but the same gang which disses off indian victories onhome soil as 'won on doctored pitches' will not turn up, be honest and applaud this hard fought win. :ua

Also, This time last year or more accurately during the T20 WC 2024, the serial indian khatmal's on this forum were all going gung ho on the whole 'panauti' narrative and linked the election results to whatever was happening on the field.

Now that they got their collective Tash reef presented to them wholesale with wins in T20WC, CT 2025, AC2025 the same crowd is stone quiet - what an epic face palm!!
:ds:salute:Dah

That is done. Will India go to no.2 in the WTC gtable?
don't think so, i think they will remain on 3rd on the current standings.
But no idea what bearing the results of pak- saf series will make on the wtc table. All said and done we need to beat SAF.

Scheduling is seriously nuts. Asia cup, WI series, LOI series in Australia, SA series. One after another without break.

yes..plus we have very less tests in the very near future. Don't know how they will get oppurtunites for the points to rack up

Yes after 2 test matches against Saffers, we play 2 test matches vs Sri Lanka in July 2026.
And two tests or so vs New Zealand in New Zealand in can you believe it - in OCT 2026! Wonder what genuis at the ICC-BCCI decided to schedule this?

OCT will be freakin cold in NZ with the Southern hemisphere winter not yet over. the tempertures will be typically 10 to 18 deg with frequent rains.

Green wickets with overhead conditions with the ball hooping around like a bommerang on steroids!

If fielders stop the ball or the slipsmen take catches, it will sting - big time!

Expect 150-200 to be max scores in whole series per team per innings....

Glad that Richard Hadlee has retired.....if he was around even 35 would be a good score :faf :mw1

yeah NZ will gives us green wickets because we made 3 absolute turners when they toured last year. Disappointing thing is they won, we should also target win on that test tour in cold NZ.

I think it was scheduled this way as NZ are playing 4 test matches in Australia later in the year, a rare time when NZ will not have home matches on Boxing Day & New Year's.

first match was not a turner.

it was flat. the drainage system meant that after a couple of days under covers it seamed a lot.

india scored 400+ in the 2nd innings.

2nd/3rd match were turners.

NZ always gives us green seaming tracks in test matches, this time will be no exception as they would want to win vs India because they are going to get smoked in Australia in those 4 test matches in Australia.

yup that's true. just correcting that the first match was not a turner. in fact from 2024 india were weaning off turners. 2nd and 3rd games had turners cause of panic.

Also because if any team performs vs India they get bigger ipl contracts. Contrary to what Pakistanis and other desis think. Performance against India is crucial to getting big lucrative contracts not under performing lmao

It was a match bw top two test teams. WI topping from bottom, India topping from top.

The result was expected anyways.

Jamieson - kohli killer thank god coolie is gone
O rourke - Rohit killer. Glad fat pos is gone
Matt Henry
Ben sears

Bench Duffy not so good

This is a very strong bowling attack for nz and English conditions

We can beat them given we don’t have those 2 frauds anymore but we need to select the right bowlers

Bumrah needs to step up vs nz this time.
Siraj will be good
Prasidh if he gets his line right can be deadly
Harshit will be good
Akashdeep with the seam
I would assume gurnoor brar he is rapid and bouncy

Yes, we do have a chance with that bowling line up, in cold blustery swing and seam NZ conditions, i actually fancy Akash - if he bowls like he did in the 2nd test vs eng is the perfect template for such conditions.
am not familiar at all with gurnoor - does he bowl upward of 135kmph/
Frankly, am a bit disappointed with bcci - as they do not seem to focussing on getting new quick bowlers or there just seems tobe a general lethargy with this aspect

and they have let go of a real diamond in Bharat Arun - this guy was the silent catalyst for our previous pace bowling stocks

....not sure how mayank yadav, umraan and such type of guys are being managed with their injuries, i wish we had some young pace guys lining up...

Gurnoor is very good
Yash thakur as well

Both bowl 135 to 140 consistently

Bharat Arun was a huuuuuuuuge loss

With him we would have won one wtc already

NZ with an attack of Matt Henry, Will O' Rourke, Kyle Jamieson, Ben Sears will cause trouble on green wickets. Hope our batsman be able to put 250+ scores in all 4 innings.

India have won their last ten Test series against West Indies - the joint-longest streak in Test history.

23 years since they won a test against India. Going by the bench strength this will last for some more time
was their last win in the 2002 or so series in the west indies? i remember one test in which we had to bat out the last session to draw - lost wickets in a cluster, the rains started even as the awards ceremony started and it rained for 4 days straight, i dont think indian team made it out of the island they were in for those 4 days. I remember John Wright saying he gave an absolute bollocking to the indian team pointing out to the outside rain and reminding them they had to fight harder etc.
john Wright was an awesome coach - the kind of guy who got the best out of a lot of our guys - a real mate but also a father figure.

Am more intrested in finding out where have all the 'cheerleaders of the panauti' narrative disappeared, probably crawled back into the woodwork where they belong now that india is doing well in White ball and Red? :) :shh :Dah

Been a good year for India

ODIs - CT unbeaten win
T20s - AC unbeaten win
Tests - ATT 2-2 draw

Plus ofc winning other bilaterals here and there

Just cause a team wins wtc doesn’t mean they were the best team

Bets team is who wins bilaterals vs top sides. Who won the most. Who dominated over the entire cycle.

That’s why I don’t rate nz winning in 2021 when India clearly until that point were the best side. One off final doesn’t mean much.

Same with 2023. India won away and at home vs Aus in bilateral series. Best team was India Infact till 2023 and we missed 3 players in the final

@CrIc_Mystique @Devadwal @saimayubera

Yes it was a horrible series for India. Remember India was leading 1-0 after winning the 2nd Test at Trinidad. In the final Test India just needed to bat like 15-20 minutes more for a draw as there were heavy rains and no play would have been possible. India could have come out with 1-1 result. India did win the ODI series after that but again it wasn't a consolation. That was 2 back to back series in West Indies India should have won.

This was the problem with Sourav's team as India never could close out a series. In Zimbabwe right after the famous home series win against Australia, India lost the second Test after winning the first. In England India were 1-1 and had upper had at the Oval but could not push for a win. Australia 2003/04, again won the second Test and had the upper had in Sydney and could not close it out. While under Ganguly India had started winning Tests overseas but could not win series. The trend changed under Rahul Dravid where we won the 2006 series in WI and 2007 series in England.
