I've been seeing a lot of hate posts and backlash about India's performance but here are my thoughts:
This is India's first loss in the WC and our first loss has come after playing 8 games. That's how good our domination has been through out the tournament despite losing Dhawan.
KL Rahul is not like-for-like replacement for Dhawan: India has managed to score 300+ in a chase despite KL scoring a duck. If Roy is the vital cog for ENG, it's Dhawan who's a bigger player and match winner than Roys, Warners and India is dearly missing his services. KL will continue to score ducks and get out for cute 20s and India simply have to live with it for the rest of the WC. We are playing with just 2 proper bastmen at the moment. Imagine ENG going in without Roy and result would have been different. When people like Mamoon can feel ENG were losing it because of no Roy and starts doing bhangra as soon as Roy is back in the team, imagine how much India is missing Dhawan and his contribution. But let's not get to Mamoon's level and give Dhawan's unavailability an excuse. We'll have to find a better replacement for him and KL is not the MAN for the job.
It's the first WC game for Pant - I was a bit skeptical about his inclusion but boy! despite being his first game in a high profile WC match, he showed some fight and grit and managed to score some runs in a high-pressure game. I've already seen people questioning if he's overhyped. Come on! It's his first WC game and the boy is just 21. Give him some time. I don't care if he's hack as long as he continues scoring runs and wins matches for India.
Middle order of Morgan, Stokes, Buttler >>>>> Pandya, Dhoni & Jadhav: I knew our middle order would fail terribly but to my suprise they punched above their weights . I know I know we're all mad with the way things progressed during the last 10 overs but trust me I honestly had no expectations from our MO and was thinking we'd end up with 260s or 270s as usual but they surprised me by scoring 300+.
Dhoni & Jadhav: Yes, they didn't show the fight in the end but it's not because of their intent, it's just that they don't have the ability to chase big totals anymore. Thala is good for chasing 250s and 270s and Jadhav doesn't have the power game and the next batsman to come was Shami. We all know how terrible our Tail is. The only wise thing to do at that moment was not to lose wickets and impact the NRR. I would happily take this approach in yesterday's situation because it's not SEMI OR FINAL. It's just one group game and I'm seeing the big picture here.
Shami's performance: I don't remember when was the last time an Indian pacer picking up 5 wickets against ENG in ENG. He's been bowling brilliantly in every match and he'll start bowling well in death overs too.
We managed to restrict them to 336 despite Spinners failing miserably. At one point I thought they were on course to scoring 400 but we resrticted them well. Pandya's bowling has been improving and he's proven me wrong yesterday by bowling tight lines. He's been consistently scoring valuable runs too. Bumrah bowled a dream spell. Rohit is back to form after a slump, Kohli is red hot form. All in all, it was a good practice for India yesterday and came at the right time for them to identify their errors and correct them before Semis. Yes! They punched above their weights and we should continue supporting them instead of bashing them for their 1st loss in a long WC tournament. Remember we were unbeaten until yesterday and we sure know how to bounce back being a Champion team. Go India go! You have our unconditional support.
